I noticed a couple days ago, when starting the car early in the morning after it spends most of the night sleeping outside (waiting to get a damn car port at my apartments...) that there is a throaty note to the engine for a few seconds.

Is this common for a rotary engine?

I can turn it off & on and it wont do the same thing again.
BTW, I checked oil FULL, using SHELL 91oct gas, and barely 350 miles.

...you mean it stutters, or it simply makes a different sound starting up (and doesn't struggle to get going)??

Nope, doesn't seem to be stressing more than the usual. I know it takes a few more cranks to get it going than a regular piston engine.

The noise is simply unusual for what I am used to on this car. It doesn't seem to be normal high rpm for a cold start, it is as If for a second I was starting a V8 instead of a rotary.

Ya i know what you mean. It happens right in the morning you turn it on and it sounds actually pretty agressive then once it warms gets into its idle and the fluids slush around everything is back to normal.

I actually love that sound lol! Like a mean growl...

May I presume it is normal for our 8s?

I have noticed it too. It is sort of like a few seconds of popping and light backfiring. My RX-7 always does that, so I assume it is something that rotaries just do.
