View Full Version : PA/NJ/DE/NY and beyond: organizing a fall meet!!
shinka213 06-19-2006, 05:35 PM Now that we've recovered from our first meet....an excellent one I might add...I think Im going to take advantage of some things I learned when organizing the first....first Im going to start a little earlier this time...
I'd like some input please on location, day of the weekend and month....I am looking at either September or October....
There is an awesome park near the previous meet (Brandywine Picnic Park)...you can google it for details but they have everything including an aweome all-you-can eat buffett from like 12-5 for $36.95
check their website...lots of activities including canoing, paddle boats, rides, arcade (just for feras and klegg), etc....children are welcome...
-Pat
PS...already have our first sponsor.... Nucar Mazda
DukeGG1 06-19-2006, 07:05 PM Boy, when I asked on June 19th when our next meet would be, you didnt mess around, Pat!
No opinion yet on location, etc.; waiting to see what others say. Although, I'd rather take a drive than paddle a paddleboat!
lurch519 06-19-2006, 07:50 PM im just gonna make one small request. i cant ever make it to a saturday meet as i have to work, so can we please, please please (all the meets i hear of are on saturday) have this one on a sunday?????
3MTA3 06-19-2006, 08:17 PM We'll be there. I would like to win a turbo and an interceptor this time around :mdrmed:
And as long as we have at least a month's heads up, I can get off of work, so Sunday works for us!
shinka213 06-19-2006, 08:46 PM I like your aspirations Vicki......a turbo with an interceptor x.....youre gonna bypass the greddy emanage and go all the way....
I will put my feelers out there.....
Sunday is ok with me...I know Lurch has been dying over here....I aim to please...
Guy - we could do both the drive and the picnic park....thats an option too....
there are a lot of noice and curvy roads along the brandywine....
DukeGG1 06-19-2006, 09:19 PM I'm up for anything, Pat. Let me know what I can do to help!
shinka213 06-19-2006, 09:32 PM I'm up for anything, Pat. Let me know what I can do to help!
okey dokey Guy
I will keep that in mind! :ylsuper:
3MTA3 06-19-2006, 09:35 PM I'm up for anything, Pat. Let me know what I can do to help!
Same with us. I know we are a ways away, but if there is anything we can do to help, let me know!
Would you like to pick the song for the video?! LOL!
shinka213 06-19-2006, 10:03 PM Same with us. I know we are a ways away, but if there is anything we can do to help, let me know!
Would you like to pick the song for the video?! LOL!
I loved that freakin black eyed peas song!!! thats gonna be tough to beat! :ylsuper:
I do know one thing....Im gonna take more pics...I got so wrapped up in the meet that i ony took 12 pics...
:spank: :spank: :spank:
Darkrose 06-20-2006, 11:39 AM To make things easier, you can have a designated cameraperson.....that way it's not so much work for you! Sunday can work for us too. Just don't make it on 10/8. I'm organizing a breast cancer research ride in my friend's memory for the 7th of October.
MotherGoose 06-20-2006, 01:47 PM Anything a tad further west so some of us don't have to drive 227 miles one way would be nice....
Cool-Blue-Dad 06-20-2006, 05:47 PM I'd like some input please on location, day of the weekend and month....I am looking at either September or October....I bought my car on 9/30 last year. That weekend would be cool. Early in September is difficult due to back-to-school schedule changes.
Meet on a Sunday would be fine. I'd drive down Saturday night, drive back Sunday...... maybe bring the Cool-Blue-Wife..... (not that I've ever called her that before - I just made that up just now). :rollingla
There is an awesome park near the previous meet (Brandywine Picnic Park)...you can google it for details but they have everything including an aweome all-you-can eat buffett from like 12-5 for $36.95Hmmmm, $37/person? Kinda steep when buying for more than one.... I found an indirect link: http://www.visitpa.com/pathrills/parks/park_brandy.shtml
Sounds like a nice place. I'd be up for that or for a drive. Duke, did you mean a cruise - some substantial distance?

Cool-Blue: the price is a little steep but you get an all-day use of the park and everything in it besides the food....
PS...I dont care where we go as long as we spend the day together!!
:grouphug: :cuddle:
DukeGG1 06-20-2006, 07:10 PM Duke, did you mean a cruise - some substantial distance?
Yeah, C-B-D. One of my favorite parts of the last meet was dag & I driving our two blues together over from NJ. I loved the stares we got & how some people sped up to check us out after we had passed them in tandem.
I also noticed how a few from the meet went off on a ride, but I didnt know where to go for a fun ride. I go up & down rte 1 a lot, but I havent ventured off of it in the Chadd's Ford area.
lurch519 06-20-2006, 09:19 PM hey shinks, can you edit the poll, for an either way is cool with me vote. personally, i dont care, i just want to hang out and meet everybody.
shinka213 06-20-2006, 10:04 PM great idea Lurch....cant edit the pole...I will check with a mod on that
I like the idea!
3MTA3 06-20-2006, 10:05 PM Either way is ok for me, too. We would only be able to hang out for 2 to 3 hours tops, anyway, as we have four dogs at home!
shinka213 06-20-2006, 11:03 PM Either way is ok for me, too. We would only be able to hang out for 2 to 3 hours tops, anyway, as we have four dogs at home!

Irish_in_a_RX8 06-21-2006, 07:32 PM its a sticky - sorry I am slacking :p
Feras 06-22-2006, 10:48 AM im in sunday saturday whatever...just not labor day weekend, i'll be dragonning
Steakboy42 06-23-2006, 07:12 AM if this one doesnt fall on a car show weekend, I'll be able to go!!! I'm gunna be (hopefully) getting a list of shows that I'm gunna try to hit every one. I'll be able to decide after I get the list

Chrism....3MTA3 is going. I can't speak for the rest of us, but I have a ride to plan for October.....and I'm behind as it is. :)

Please give me pertinent information though, and keep me up to date on whether or not Tammy will go. That'll push me to attend if we can get 3 shinka owners there!

was wondering about the contests.....ie do you have to register, etc
does the show have a name?
lurch519 07-13-2006, 08:19 AM the car show part you have to register for, which we will probably start taking pre-registrations in about a month. pre-registration will be $15, and registration the day of the show will be $20. as for classes for the cars, it will all depend on the turnout.
we will also be having various little contests, like a pie eating contest, wing eating, and donut eating, and we give out different prizes for these.
here is a link to pictures of our show back in june this year
http://www.streettrenz.com/gallery06/thumbnails.php?album=25

shinka213 07-23-2006, 11:53 PM now that the tour de france is over.......GO FLOYD LANDIS!!!
I can now focus on the meet at hand....I got a great idea from a fellow forum member tonight (Dan o mite)....
any thoughts on having the meet at a speed shop and having a dyno day???
would anyone be interested in having their car dynoed?
I'm gonna touch base this week with my local shop for pricing and availablility
thanks DAN!!
Darkrose 07-24-2006, 07:05 AM It doesn't matter to me. My car's all stock, so I don't have an incentive to dyno.... :)
shinka213 07-24-2006, 08:12 AM It doesn't matter to me. My car's all stock, so I don't have an incentive to dyno.... :)
on the other hand Liz, you may want to get a baseline just in case in the future you decide to make some changes... :mdrmed:
shinka213 07-24-2006, 03:10 PM I stopped by my local speed shop on the way home from work today.....Evolution Performance/Mighty Muffler...talked to the owner.....they will rent us the place...dyno usuage et all for the day....they have plenty of room for us to display our cars for a car show.....they will have the dyno running and we can actually do a bbq in the back....
they usually do 2 pulls and a 1/4 mi....
any thoughts????
Darkrose 07-25-2006, 09:18 AM ooh. Barbecue!!
shinka213 07-25-2006, 03:29 PM ooh. Barbecue!!
does that mean youre up for it Liz??? :yesnod: :yesnod: :yesnod:
personally i think its a great idea......the only thing that concerns me is how we would do the money piece....
PS....I put the word out on the rx7 forum that we were possibly having a rotary bbq/dyno day and have gotten some interest.....
w00t!!! :cuddle: :cuddle:
PS....I figured out the money piece....we could do it thru paypal
Darkrose 07-26-2006, 12:26 PM Remember, I have a tournament that weekend, so it all depends how well I suck. :hahano:
If I do well, then I won't be able to make it. If I get knocked out early then I'll have a chance of making it.....then there's this training class that I might have to be taking for work....
Put me down as a solid "maybe". :dunno: Sorry that's the best I can do! Otherwise it sounds like it would be an awesome day! C'mon people, go! :)

we could have it on another weekend....let me know
no one else is posting a date so we can pick ourselves!! :)
lurch519 07-27-2006, 12:17 AM a dyno day would be awesome shinks. though the 24th would be great, i am pretty open. only problem dates for me will be the weekend before, the 17th wont work because of the nopi car show in atlanta, and the weekend after, the 1st of october is an nhra import drag race at englishtown raceway in jersey, which i am going to to help support my buddy

I don't think I'll have a problem on the 17th. Yes, it's a pool tournament. It's called the US Amateur, and is a combination of 8-ball and 9-ball on 9-foot tables.

shinka213 07-31-2006, 04:04 PM I believe youre right Vicki....thanks for the reminder....I guess we will have to stick to the 24th of September (Sunday)
now possibly we can do a roll call and please put a "yes" next to your name if you like the idea of having it at a local speed shop doing a dyno/bbq day along with the "best of"
I need some input please!!! :)
1. Shinka213 - yes to the dyno/bbq/best in show

shinka213 08-03-2006, 04:51 PM Meet Update:
now that we have an exact date.....9/24/06
we need to make a decision on what type of meet....
1. at the speed shop with dyno/bbq: we will have to pay a rental fee for the day but that would cover use of the dyno and other parts of the facility...so consequently there would be a charged passed on to each attendee
or
2. at a mall or reasonable facsimile (which is free), hang out, have the contest, then go out to dinner....
please post input!!
thanks
3MTA3 08-03-2006, 05:01 PM We'donly be able to stay for two hours, so I don't think my input would count! :)
maxxdamigz 08-03-2006, 05:02 PM Dyno meets make me tingle on the inside, but I'm not sure how interesting it would be to dyno a couple of modified cars and a lot of near stock ones.
shinka213 08-03-2006, 06:18 PM We'donly be able to stay for two hours, so I don't think my input would count! :)
Hey Vicki
i would think that a mall meet with dinner would be better for you???
MotherGoose 08-03-2006, 10:34 PM Dyno
lurch519 08-03-2006, 11:00 PM i would like to do the dyno thing, how much are we looking at shinks? i've added some power adders so im interested in seeing how they stack up. also, do they have an all wheel dyno, as a couple of buddies of mine have subbies and might want to attend, as long as thats allright
shinka213 08-03-2006, 11:02 PM just to clarify:
if we do the dyno/bbq meet it may cost each individual $50-$100 depending on how many attend the meet
does anyone have an issue with that.....we need to come up with probably $1000 to rent the place for the day...
I dont have an exact price yet...but thats close...
PS...I know for a fact that its only 2 wheel....but i heard from some one that in some cars like the volvo you can disengage the AWD
MotherGoose 08-04-2006, 10:46 AM My local shop in St. College charges $75 for three pulls. They also give you a A/F printout for each run. Costs close to that figure would seem reasonable to me.
Skinka, if we do rent the location for the day is there enough parking for members that wish to attend the meet but not do a dyno run? If not, is there another location close by that we could use as a meet up spot?
There might be a opportunity for a group tour if parking at the shop isn't an option. Something about the idea of 10 - 20 8s on the road at the same time appeals to me. Regardless we missed out on a group drive last time and this may be something we wish to explore.
Skinka, thanks for all the leg work that you have into this already. Myself and several others really enjoyed the last meet. I'm sure this will be of the same caliber. Please contact me offline if there's anything I can do to assist.
Goat, I hope that you can meet up with SJ and I somewhere near lancaster this time.
minicindy 08-04-2006, 01:56 PM Been trying to keep up with the thread. I live near Harrisburg PA and would love to join in on 9/24 but I'll be getting ready to fly out to Las Vegas to instruct at a Viper Owners Club Invitational. Please keep me in mind for future stuff (love to meet up with some other car addicts/RX-8 owners in the "area"). Even if it is just for a drive/beer/dinner.

shinka213 08-04-2006, 04:18 PM Hey MotherG
there should be plenty of room for all of us to hang out...even those who do not want to dyno...they have car shows there all the time...
I also like the idea that we will have the whole place to grill and such...I may even ask them to sponsor the meet with a give-away....
Ive spent a lot of money there...my boys too...
he alluded to the fact that he would give me a discount...
i have to talk with him on monday...i will get more info!!
i'll wink at him a few times.... :yumyum:
supergoat 08-06-2006, 01:10 PM Dyno meets make me tingle on the inside, but I'm not sure how interesting it would be to dyno a couple of modified cars and a lot of near stock ones.
Chris, I agree with you. However, seeing as how no two RX-8s are built the same apparantly, I'm intersted to see how the cars dyno compared to one another.
Also I want to see how much more power my 8 has over my Probe, and where. I'm a geek like that. :)
maxxdamigz 08-07-2006, 07:58 AM Don't be silly, Supergoat. Of course I would want to dyno. I'm actually looking around north Jersey for a shop that I can go to regularly as I change things. Most of my initial mods will be cosmetic/minor for now, but I can this car impinging on my retirement plans in the not to distant future. I'd also like to see how my car runs compared to everyone else. I set a personal record on the way back from HH of 22.6 mpg (and this is with the AC on).
Feras 08-07-2006, 12:59 PM im in for a dyno...i'll pay s'all good.
shinka213 08-07-2006, 04:09 PM Hi ALL:
meet update - spoke to the shop owner today and was pleasantly surprised...we can rent the shop with dyno, et al from 10AM-4PM for $600...
I am really excited about this...this is a really great price....we can dyno lots of cars from 10-4 which means a really decent price for each individual....
most places charge $100 per dyno......i would think $50 would cover it
everyones thoughts?

$50 is a reasonable price but how many pulls does that buy us?
chrism 08-08-2006, 11:43 AM hey chrism - do you want to dyno???
i wont know till closer to the date....paycheck to paycheck at the moment :)
shinka213 08-08-2006, 04:11 PM Hey MG
we are renting the place for the day which covers the use of the dyno from 10-4PM
I came up with $50 looking at the # of 8s that want to be dynoed....there really isnt a restriction on the # of pulls but i think we need to look at the time factor....if we have plenty of it we shouild be able to do plenty of pulls....
the shop owner said it should be easy because we will be dynoing the same car all day so no adjustments will have to be made to the lift, etc...
Im thinking at least 3 unless we get a major turnout of 8s that want dyno...
how does that sound?
shinka213 08-08-2006, 04:12 PM i wont know till closer to the date....paycheck to paycheck at the moment :)
