Taka,
CAPA & BOXER will suffice! :evil_laug
WRT cost are you looking for more cars? I could possibly entice a couple more "ring in's" (a 350Z and/or 3.0RB) if that is what we are wanting to do. I'm not pushing for it, as personally being a novice I'm happy to have fewer numbers with more track time (like last time) despite a higher average cost. :icon5: :icon5:
auzoom 06-18-2006, 06:42 AM Mate, so long as they are smart, sensible people, then they are welcome. What we dont want is people are likely to make the day miserable for the rest.
Andrew
jormatom 06-18-2006, 10:02 PM Hi Guys
Can't commit at this stage but will probably know if I can make it the week before the event.
Any chance of slipping in last minute if you have any places left?
Greg
ILIV48 06-18-2006, 11:17 PM Car list:
5. ILIV48 (he will be angry if I did not put him there)
You remembered... How sweet
If it's only 1/2 as good as last time I will be very happy!
takahashi 06-19-2006, 07:34 AM Hi Guys
Can't commit at this stage but will probably know if I can make it the week before the event.

Greg
jormatom,
sure thing we will make it happen.
jormatom 06-19-2006, 07:13 PM Thanks taka.
Will let you know as soon as i can.
mirx*8 06-20-2006, 06:46 AM Anyone in for a skidpan day prior?
RXVIII 06-20-2006, 07:21 AM Anyone in for a skidpan day prior?
Any particular date(s) in mind?
takahashi 06-20-2006, 07:26 AM Kevin has a few days available.
But I am getting my close friends together to have a fun day. Maybe the arvo with you guys?
They are in Mid and Late July
ILIV48 06-20-2006, 05:58 PM I could probably mange an arvo session. When you have a date Taka let us know and we can organise an afternoon session that day with Kevin!
mirx*8 06-21-2006, 07:14 AM I'll check it out and let you know....watch another space...but on this website
takahashi 06-21-2006, 07:52 AM I have emailed Kevin to pencil in 15th July. I have my own friends that want to do it.
takahashi 06-24-2006, 05:56 AM Bump - it is now 14 people. Thanks Craig - the recruitment service
takahashi 06-25-2006, 10:18 PM See car list - there are more people from my other active forum - clubrsx.com - I met some of them from last Honda day.
ILIV48 06-25-2006, 10:36 PM I may have another from that last honda Club day at Winton. He drives the blue supercharged S2000. Just waiting on a call from him!
takahashi 06-26-2006, 04:10 AM Sure Stu
intoE 06-26-2006, 04:49 AM Pen me down too please :)
Please advise on payment/deposit procedures.
auzoom 06-26-2006, 04:53 AM intoE, welcome to the forum. Can you introduce yourself?
takahashi 06-26-2006, 04:55 AM List updated.
intoE, I have to check with auzoom as he is the money man. I think once there are 25 people list or about a month before the event we will need payment. It is simply diving cost among all of us - so it is hard to tell you how much now.
Hope it is clear, but yes we need payment upfront at some stage.
EDIT: The boss is in town. Get your MSN ON!
auzoom. All people in the list has or having character check in Taka's standard ;)
intoE 06-27-2006, 03:57 AM intoE, welcome to the forum. Can you introduce yourself?

I'm not worried about the amount. As I'm new here and I don't know you nor the organiser (if it isn't you), I thought I'd do the polite thing and ask how/what the payment procedures are :)
So, yer, just let us know when and how you want the payment from me when you're ready, and I'll be ready :)
ILIV48 06-27-2006, 05:40 AM OK Taka I have 3 more!
1. Russell from Essendon Tyrepower wants to bring his Datsun racecar up like on the Honda day. This will be handy as he will bring his whole race kit too which means there will be plenty of tools & know how just in case, as well as some proper track tuition if needed!
2. The blue supercharged S2000. He did a 1.41 up there last weekend! You might remember him from the last Honda day at Winton. Is a really nice guy.
3. A blue STI. He races his STI in a club championship. (Will be coming up with Russell... Russell does all the race prep/setup on his car)
auzoom 06-27-2006, 05:42 AM err...Hi :wavey:

Sorry mate, I am guessing you are a friend of, or you know Taka. Just didnt want the day to be a free for all with just anyone coming. People driving expensive cars tend to be reluctant to track them when there are hoons in their inexpensive car tracking as well.
I don't know you nor the organiser (if it isn't you),
No, i'm organising it, Taka is just by Biatch :spank:
Cheers

I was going to get DavidM to come... hope he sees this
takahashi 06-27-2006, 07:28 AM Have I left anyone out of the list?
I met the bloke with the supercharged s2000 at Calder last year nice guy.
And the comment "14. Why (RXVIII's friend - exp tracker apparently )" yes Ive done a lot of track days but I'm no Mark Webber.
takahashi 06-27-2006, 09:20 AM At least you are not a David Coultard.

Aah...fair enuff.
I didn't mean to sound rude or anything by my previous response :o:
I actually don't know your biatch
However, I knew about this trackday when a mate linked me to the thread on ClubRSX. I figured I'll just sign up here and put my name down here directly.
Apologies for any confusion :o:
I've only ever been onto Winton once.
If I get to go this time, it'll be my 2nd time round :wiggle:
I intend to run my stock S2000 with better brakes, just to see if I can improve my time.
So...do I qualify?
takahashi 06-28-2006, 04:04 AM The bitch said it is ok
I am going to get the info, experience and previous time you do (best time and estimate average lap time)... and I will sort out the format of running it.
air23box 06-29-2006, 12:56 AM seems like the list is going well taka......can you get the approx amount we need to pay per person? thx bro... :ylsuper:
ILIV48 06-29-2006, 02:55 AM seems like the list is going well taka......can you get the approx amount we need to pay per person? thx bro... :ylsuper:
Just divide $3750 by the number of people to work out the cost.
auzoom 07-02-2006, 07:42 PM OK its time to shrink the list a bit :-D Deposit time.
So far we have 23 people listed so we are looking at around $150-200 per person.
At this point I am going to ask for a deposit of $100.
Please PM me for bank details.
regards
Andrew
ELITE-RX8 07-04-2006, 02:55 AM All full??
takahashi 07-04-2006, 05:34 AM Like to be on the waiting list ? ;) I don't expect all 25 payments
Do you guys normally stay at Benella on the Sunday night? Ive done this before and it was good to arrive at the track fully refreshed.
takahashi 07-05-2006, 05:23 AM We stayed at the Top of the Town motel last time. Not sure I will do this time though
Is that Hotel on a corner ? Pretty sure thats where I stayed at least the name sounds familiar.
auzoom 07-05-2006, 07:30 AM I htink I will just drive up in the morning
RXVIII 07-05-2006, 07:47 AM I htink I will just drive up in the morning
That's what I did last time, infact arrived too early & still no problem driving back in the afternoon. Although I certainly didn't do the number of laps on (or "off") the track you did on the day.
takahashi 07-05-2006, 08:11 AM Let start at 6am I will get there by 830
ILIV48 07-06-2006, 06:59 AM I too decided that I will just drive up in the morning. Save some costs this time as I am spending on the skidpan day.

takahashi 07-15-2006, 02:53 AM Why was thinking it is still a month to go.
Hey I still have not change my oil and swap the tyre over yet!
auzoom 07-15-2006, 03:20 AM Doh!!! Sorry long day at the skid pan. Yes I agree lets skip the rest of the month!.
Why was thinking it is still a month to go.
Hey I still have not change my oil and swap the tyre over yet!
Reminds me I better book the car in before its too late.
Requirements for the day? Am I right in assuming fire extinguisher, helmet, bonnet strap and the usual empty the car out.
Does anyone know where I can get one of those self lap timing thingy's that you attach to your side mirror and then put the transmitter on the side of the track? I want one.
takahashi 07-15-2006, 06:23 AM Requirement is what you said minus fire extinguisher and bonnet strap - but it is nice to have those.
There is transponder to hire but what you said above cost $600+. Driftbox is GPS based and it is $1200 but can plot a graph for you ;)
ELITE-RX8 07-15-2006, 11:08 AM Thinking of putting GT wing on for the track. and also have to change back to stock wheels..
so lazy.
spooncrx 07-17-2006, 12:20 AM what the update on the entry list?? Will more than 25 entries be accepted??
ELITE-RX8 07-17-2006, 12:24 AM i think its just that for those people not paying. then the waitting list will go up.
takahashi 07-17-2006, 01:26 AM I think Andrew is keen to see more RX-8, and I think he is freaking out trying to sort out 30 cars.
Note: It is a private function and there is no ground staff. Think about it. It will be chaos if too many cars at a time and it is not funny.
I leave the final decision to auzoom. I will try to talk to him tonight.
ELITE-RX8 07-17-2006, 01:59 AM last time when i went to winton. with some different club. was private also.
we had the first 10 to 20 mins for the new people to the winton. then from that one. every first half hours will be driving alone. then 2nd half hour will need to take a guy with you.
but if it is full day track. i don't think you will be on for all day all the time. and last time we had about 25 cars also.
just make sure everyday don't get too close to each others. and don't take over when turning. then should be fine. i think.
spooncrx 07-17-2006, 02:28 AM When winton have there car's only days, they just run open track, on and off whenever. Seems to work ok, since that most people only stayed out for 20 min max then came in for about 40 min for a break.
takahashi 07-17-2006, 03:36 AM It is your the rest of the people to keep the number down.
Car only days as Winton ground staff. During our days, they are in the office. Only the ambo guys is there.
We will work it out. I think we end up having a few experienced guy parking their car at very near the waiting bay and looking at the track all the time.
We cannot get a guy sitting at the duck out at turn 9 e.g.
No ground staff to wave the bloody flag - nor do we have any flag either. We reply on common sense on the track, of which I will address strongly at the start of the day.
Last time we have 11 cars - too much track and there are times that only 3 cars on the track, with 22 cars we can have enough cars on the track at anyone time and still have open pit service. 25 is still doable. That is our logic so far. If there is mis behaved driving it is a nono. It is not much fun when you crash and we wait for the tractor to come in half an hour's time. :( :spank:
spooncrx 07-17-2006, 08:19 AM there wenrt any flag marshel's during the "cars only" day, i think the bottom line is that no one wants there car to be damaged in anyway, so most should drive in a decent manner.
I know i only stay around the drivers in which i am aware of there skills. Otherwise i let them by or wait for a signal to pass.
I got myself a lap timer for $400.00 brand new (similar to the one on my Kart) Even has a warranty.
http://www.aim-sportsystems.com/tgitaly1.htm
Its quite simple really if anyone does anything stupid or drives in a manner endangering any other vehicles they should be asked to leave the track. Nobody wants to have any damage done to there car.
Or.
1. No overtaking on corners.
2. Only overtake when driver in front acknowledges and waves the faster car through.
3. If you are slower move over and let the faster car pass and then continue on your way.
4. Remember its for fun and not for sheep stations.
auzoom 07-17-2006, 09:50 PM Sorry guys. Have been flat out with work and hadnt noticed the questions. I will update you all tonight.
Cheers
Andrew
takahashi 07-17-2006, 11:02 PM 1. No overtaking on corners.

3. If you are slower move over and let the faster car pass and then continue on your way.

Yes Why,
Your comment make sense and in par of what I have been exposed to in the last 2 and a bit years.
I will sit with Andrew tonight and work out a "rule", basically put it in a graceful manner unlike above j/k
air23box 07-18-2006, 12:55 AM its a good idea.....stephen.....there is a few more ppl willing to join on the day....so how about we get the list up to 30 entries rather then 25? let me know...cheers...
spooncrx 07-18-2006, 02:01 AM its a good idea.....stephen.....there is a few more ppl willing to join on the day....so how about we get the list up to 30 entries rather then 25? let me know...cheers...
yeah would be alot cheaper aswell :)
auzoom 07-18-2006, 06:14 AM Sorry people, been busy with work and hadnt noticed the stream of questions.
Story is this. There were 25 places advertised because that is what we are comfortable with. This is about having fun, not racing each other around the track. the more people on the track, the less chance of open space in front of you and therefore less chance of you enjoying yourself.
As part of organising numbers I have to be carefull to have balanced groups of people. No point in having uneven/unbalanced groups on the track, it just leads to frustration. Frustration leads to stupid decisions, and we all know what that leads to.
Format for the day will be sessions of about 20 min which will include cool down period. there will be 3 groups of people, 1 - Experienced (on Slicks), 2 - Experienced, 3 - Inexperienced. 20 min will equate to about 8-10 laps depending which group you are in, and is about the limit that you will want to push your car in one go.
So far we have a number of people with either no experience, very little experience or very little confidence on the track. Its probably a few more than I would like to have (purely from a balance point of view), but we are dealing with it.
The last 3-4 min of each session will be a cool down lap(s). These laps will be a NO SPEED lap from the start/finish line onwards, ie you get to finish your last lap, but then must reduce speed by the S bend.
We will have access to the lights at the start/finish line and they will be used to signal drivers of cool down/warm up period and time to come off the track.
Please do not cross groups without consulting a marshal first as there will be consequences.
There will be a briefing session before we start where we will inform you of all the track rules, such as overtaking.
Cheers
Andrew
astro 07-18-2006, 07:05 AM Hmmm... put me in group 3. I'll put my "L" plates on :mdrmed: .
air23box 07-18-2006, 10:52 AM Have you divide groups yet? or we will figure it out on the day?
auzoom 07-18-2006, 08:37 PM airbox23 <- Yes we have, and we will advise on the day.
astro <- you ran 1:52's last time. With your current mods, you will be < 1:50 this time.
Also, cost of an ambulance on the day has gone up $50 so total cost now is $3800 or $152 each.
Cheers
Andrew
mirx*8 07-23-2006, 07:14 AM Hey great job andrew, looks set to be a great day.
In case you were wondering 3 weeks to go.
Guess what 2 weeks to go.
takahashi 08-01-2006, 06:38 AM Please feel the need of changing most of the oil. For me engine oil and diff oil is due for a change.
Check your tyre and for the RX-8 guys - check your wiper washer level - it will come on when you have low level and drive hard
auzoom 08-02-2006, 07:30 AM Yes and please make sure you have plenty of tread on your tyres, it will be one of the things I will be checking. I would also recommend having an alignment done as well.
auzoom 08-02-2006, 07:56 PM Makes the world go around :-D No seriously, bring the difference of $55 on the day. And for those that for some reason paid me $150 deposit, just bring the $5 difference.
takahashi 08-02-2006, 08:35 PM No No No No
You have to bring more spare cash for Taka
Bring engine oil as well. If you have spare pads, spare anything (e.g gf, food, porn etc.) bring. J/K. :hahano:
Taka are you trying to say that Mazda's use heaps of oil? And I thought they were a quality vehicle. Better get yourself a Subaru.
PS: I own 5 Mazdas so I'm aloud to hang sh1T just ask Rocco at Brighton Mazda.
takahashi 08-03-2006, 07:14 AM I am amazed no one give the answer for 8 hours.
Why it is not Mazda, rotary uses a lot of oil. Engine oil is injected to the outer rim of the housing to lubricate the apex seal of the rotor.
It is only natural for rotary engine to use oil.
You see, I worry that not all RX-8 owners know this
auzoom 08-03-2006, 10:31 AM Ha Ha...I just reply ... " Rotaries need oil for teh same reason a WRX needs a turbo...to be a great car".
Actually the reason I was posting was to link to this that I think taka pointed me to in the first place...cant remember where I got it from but its a 350z doing a low 1:40's lap of Winton

Brewer 08-06-2006, 02:05 AM Where is the best place to get a helmet? Is it possible to hire them? If not roughly how much are they? Thanks in advance.
takahashi 08-06-2006, 02:18 AM Brewer,
The easiest and cheapest is to get an open face helmet from motorbike shops. Heaps of them in the City, Ringwood, Berwick... etc.
Make sure they have an Australian Standard sticker.
http://www.revolutionracegear.com.au/?fa=SafetyRules.circuit_racing#down
AS 1698 is what you need.
A light weight one will cost more than $200 but basic ones you can get around $100.
Snell helmet starts from $500 plus, but they are cool.
Not sure about hiring though on the track.
auzoom 08-06-2006, 02:20 AM NEVER use a hire helmet. You dont know whats happened to it. Apart from that just head to Elizabeth street in the city.
Cheers
Andrew
takahashi 08-06-2006, 02:26 AM If you don't mind travelling - the Honda Motorbike shop in Berwick, oppo to Berwick Mazda has a HUGE range of motorcycle helmet in a better price than Elizabeth street.
They are at the Princess Hwy exit in Berwick, after Narre Warren exit to Fountain Gate when you are heading towards Warragul.
mirx*8 08-08-2006, 08:23 AM Hey Guys - Im out - having troubles these days getting to these events due to work committments....have an awesome day - andrew - have emailed you.

If you are unable to make it too the track by briefing time, dont stress, just make sure you come and see me (The big tall ugly dude that doesnt fit into his Blue RX-8) or Taka (Otherwise know as ... THE STIG!. Looks like his sig' - in a black RX-8) or Stuart (otherwise known as ILIV48 or TUB! in the Red MX-5) BEFORE you go onto the track.

Been using this tyre for a while now.
auzoom 08-12-2006, 04:46 AM Whats your take on them? You use them track or street? or both? what size you running?
Andrew
Both, 225 40 18 as I have 18 x 8 Prodrive rims. Daily driving their excellent apart from being a little more noisy than the OEM Bridgestones. On the track their pretty good and the shoulders hold up well. Was using Bridgestone RE55s tyres for track only but got sick and tired of changing wheels between track and street. They are nowhere as good as the RE55s on the track but hey their not race rubber as such and you could not live with the RE55s for daily driving. Put it this way I'll get them again. :)
takahashi 08-12-2006, 07:23 AM Astro and I will be at Donnybrooke Shell and depart just before 6am.
Channel 28 if you know what I mean.
woo hoo,
Can get out of work at 10.30 am Monday . Will be driving down from Albury to say hello .

takahashi 08-12-2006, 08:39 PM Nice work rexi.
RXVIII 08-14-2006, 05:01 AM Great Day!
Thank you & congrats on the organisation both leading up to & on the day.
Look forward to the next track day!
auzoom 08-14-2006, 06:20 AM A BIG thank you to everyone for making it a great day. After a shaky start everyone came through and made it a fantastic day. And the rain held off WOOOOO!!!!
Cheers
Andrew
takahashi 08-14-2006, 06:50 AM Thanks for everyone attending.
Particularly Russ and Andrew for their support. We all have straight car home so it is a bonus.
Just one buckled wheel :suspect: How is that going Stu?
I need to see a sport psychologist - when I put my heart driving the damn thing, I beated my PB by 4/10th, with 4 consecute laps better than my previous time. I was up to 4 sec too slow all day. What is going on?

I also wanted to say thanks DavidM. He was a huge help to me. So thanks :-D
Andrew
takahashi 08-14-2006, 06:04 PM I am still exciting about the time. It is a good victory (and huge improvement) since it is a very dirty track - so much rock. It is redicious.
So Andrew improve by 4 sec and astro by 5... well done.
Someone timed Stu's MX-5 at 1"44.... handtimed of course. Where was the plan to secretly put in a transmister in this car ?
Pics? anyone?
Taka you dont need a sports psyhcologist, you have the same problem as most of us. Way to much testosterone going to the wrong side of the brain. The side that controls the right foot.
auzoom 08-14-2006, 07:41 PM Taka, the timing of the MX was a 1:46 while Russel was driving, I was right with the "Official" timer ;-)
No pics sorry Why but I have some footage of my now regular whoopsie at the chicane http://rx-8.harrisfamily.id.au/videos/Whoops.avi (3 meg DivX)

Your favourite part of the track if my memory serves me correctly. One time starring directly at those round things painted white & stacked up neatly!
Thanks to the organisers. I was the guy in the STi and had a great day. Met some nice people and saw some great cars.
Cheers,
Ben
ILIV48 08-14-2006, 09:08 PM I filmed a bit of that. I knew if I stood there long enough Andrew would perform... And as you can see he did ;)
A 1:46 by Russell with the both of us in the car is pretty good. In Russell's car the time difference for laps with a passenger and without was approx 2-3 seconds. So I think he could have done a 1:44 on his own in the MX. Damn I would love to be able to do that! All I can say is he can bloody drive.
Overall a great fun day besides the few little mishaps... Friggin Wombats!
jormatom 08-14-2006, 09:11 PM Another great event organised by the VICS.
Well done guys. sounds like you all had a good time.
Greg
auzoom 08-14-2006, 09:14 PM Ben,
I Have to say I enjoyed watching and listening to the Rex go around. Glad you enjoyed it.
Ohh and I have the car in today getting wheel changed back over and my road kill damage assessed. Will let you know how it pans out.
Cheers
Andrew
auzoom 08-14-2006, 09:23 PM Greg, we missed you and Brewer on the track yesterday...More Rx-8's I say! To many bloddy Hondas :-D Joking (about the Hondas that is).
Brewer, sorry I couldnt catch up a bit more but as usual I was busy on the track or running around like a headless chook!
Stu, forgot to say thanks for the filming. Also can you pass the axial Flow web address (http://www.axialflow.com/) onto Phil. He was interested in the S2000 Application being considered.
takahashi 08-14-2006, 09:28 PM I am going to clean the car now... thanks to you Mr auzoom
ILIV48 08-14-2006, 09:35 PM Thanks for everyone attending.
Particularly Russ and Andrew for their support. We all have straight car home so it is a bonus.
Just one buckled wheel :suspect: How is that going Stu?
Yep all is being taken care of. If the stock Mazda wheel is stupid expensive another set of Enkei's could just be on the way :wiggle:
I would suggest next time you guys take advantage of Russell if he is there, to sit in the passenger seat while you do a few laps. His teaching is fantastic and in just a few laps had completely altered my driving style to the better. He really showed me how to set up and attack the corner by driving the car through it. Made a big difference.
What he showed me in those few laps was superior to what I have learnt at the Sandown days so far. A real in your face teaching style as he yells NO, NO, NO if you don't do exactly what he's trying to teach you. Loved it. Actually got so much out of it I am thinking of paying for him to come to the next day to get him in the car with me some more!
auzoom 08-14-2006, 09:35 PM I am going to clean the car now... thanks to you Mr auzoom
Hey why is that my fault :(

auzoom 08-14-2006, 10:08 PM You suppose to carry it with you not splashing all the meat to my car
LMAO...Hows this everyone...Dr Taka who spent last year studying dead bodies has a soft spot for rotary cooked Wombat! We pulled up after our meeting with the said wombat and did an inspection. Taka was dry reaching the whole time...Is it just me or is that seriously funny??
takahashi 08-14-2006, 10:10 PM Not very funny when a piece of wombat meat stuck on the Hymee grill
takahashi 08-14-2006, 10:15 PM David just reminded me that Honda sports car club will be having one in Novembe.
A weekend.
I am in.
auzoom 08-14-2006, 10:21 PM Funny story, one of my clients in Malaysia was adamat that he wanted to taste all of our native animals like Kangaroo, Crocadile, emu, etc Then he went into Koala, WOmbat etc. I told him the story last night and he told me to go back and pick it up for him :-|
ILIV48 08-15-2006, 12:18 AM he told me to go back and pick it up for him :-|
If he wants to lick the underneath of my car then there is plenty of Wombat there to satisfy his cravings... Yuck :puke:
mirx*8 08-15-2006, 06:22 AM hey guys, looks like you had a fine time, sorry I couldn't join you. Andrew, I think it's time to rename (or name) the chicane......look forward to broady!!!!
air23box 08-15-2006, 12:48 PM Thx for all the hard work and great day....looking forward to see you guys again.....
takahashi 08-15-2006, 05:52 PM Thanks for coming....
auzoom 08-15-2006, 05:58 PM Guys some bad news. My car has gotten progressively worse with each speed bump I scrapped. I have had my tyres changed and while it was there I got them to have a look at the damage. The gearbox crossmember has torn back and the nut welded onto the chasis has been pulled through. I am also hearing some ugly noises on left turns so I am now worried about damage to other than the gearbox crossmember. I am off to my dealer now to have them assess it.
Andrew
takahashi 08-15-2006, 06:07 PM After advise of someone else, I went over to my mechanics quickly for a once check over. The only complain I had is the spongie brakes. There is no bubble to the line but a wrapped rear disc - so machined both at the brake shop a few doors back. AOK now. Still have not swap back to normal road tyre yet :D:
I found there is a lot of wombat meat underneath. When I saw it coming, it was already skinned off.
Check all 4 suspensions and arms auzoom.
Bloody stupid animals on the road... with brown hair :Eyecrazy:

Thats very sad, nobody like to have there toys broken, especially such a nice toy.
Get well soon. :tear: :tear:
auzoom 08-15-2006, 09:19 PM Well I am back and $400 out of pocket. I can safely say that for me the track is safer than the road...and I am making a big point of it to my wife :-D
I told a lie befoe its not a gearbox crossmember (hang over from my R100 that I ave been dealing with recently) its just a drivetrain crossmember that sits over the cat. Its absolutely @#$%^&*(. Twisted to all buggery and ripped one of the bolts through the floor pan. sounds worse that it is and the extra noises on cornering were just becuase of the way it was twisted.
As for the wombat, I am definately going to need an underbody clean...its abslutely disgusting!!!
Cheers
Andrew
takahashi 08-15-2006, 09:25 PM Nice to hear that.... all is fixed.
But what about it - you are an absolute wombat murderer!
ILIV48 08-15-2006, 10:05 PM you are an absolute wombat murderer!
Bloody Wombats. :ar: :Kill1: :greenchai :Kill2: :pfanndina :tank:
(the last one is probably a bit too close to home though :crying: )
Hard to imagine 1 Wombat did all this to the cars. An expensive little critter that was!
Glad to hear the car is not as bad as first thought Andrew!
Maybe next time we draw straws and have someone drive point 500m ahead of the rest of us :patriot:
astro 08-15-2006, 10:28 PM My car stinks (not as much as before)! I'm going to get aa right angled attachment to my pressure washer. I've still got wombat guts hanging from underneath. May that wombat rest in peace.
Got the car back from service (they didn't remove the grilled wombat from underneath)... I got my coolant and oil changed. I guess I am ready for Broadford track day. I can't wait!!!
I'll bleed my brakes this weekend and give it a nice wash and polish.
:crying: Dec 11 is too far away!
Glad I missed all the wombat action (although I did see bits of it on the road). Anyone got any pics or more vids of the day to post up?

takahashi 08-16-2006, 03:05 AM So Taka was the quickest of the RX-8s? What were the other cars in the 40s?
cough cough yes since you were not here mate.
From DavidM,
The best times for the day were:
- '05 STi (R-spec tyres, coilovers, exhaust, 21psi, etc) = 1:38.95
- 350Z (me, R-spec tyres, springs, exhaust) = 1:40.08
- S2000 (supercharger, R-spec tyres) = 1:42.09
- Datsun 1600 (race car) = 1:42.20
- RX8 (Taka, R-spec tyres, chip, exhaust, coilovers) = 1:43.42
- JDM DC5 Type-R (R-spec tyres) = 1:45.80
- '06 MX5 (R-spec tyres, suspension, exhaust + small engine mods) = 1:46.43
- RX8 (RT615 tyres, not sure what else) = 1:46.56
- 350Z (Iggy, exhaust) = 1:47.17
glenn 08-16-2006, 03:12 AM I would have had to bring the FD to beat that lot :D:
I still reckon an RX-8 on the right day could do a 42. Ill have to have another bash at it :D:

What times did the drifting XR8 do? That guy was the drift king
I loved the Black RX8, I think it was Taka's???? Very tough!

In fact it was an XR6 Turbo (ECU tricked up to 257.5 kW @ rear wheels).
Best time was 1:47:2980!!
Pads were all but disintergrated & pieces missing in the Dunlop 9000's!

auzoom 08-16-2006, 10:54 PM LOL If you zoom in on the pics you can still see bits of fur and flesh :-D
DavidM 08-17-2006, 08:06 AM Thanks Andrew and Taka for inviting me in the 1st place as it could not have turned out to be a better day. I don't think one could have asked for more perfect weather. Also the day run very smoothly, and conveneintly the only hold up/off happened right before lunch so no major delays because of it.
Also thanks to Taka for taking me for a spin.
Spot on other than the coilovers.. Still on springs.
Thanks for the correction Ben. Was good to see you at Winton and I'm sure I'll see you at the track again.
takahashi 08-17-2006, 11:11 PM Andrew,
Wombat is tough aren't they?
It is only a cross - arm. Did you feel the flex of the car on the track? That will answer my quest to increase the strength of the under brace?
Ta
DavidM. You have to take me out for a spin next time ;()
auzoom 08-18-2006, 01:39 AM Hey taka I asked DavidM first :-P.
as for fles. I didnt feel anything different. Just sounded horrible.

Sure thing. Anytime.
auzoom 08-23-2006, 01:41 AM Just wanted to update everyone on a conversation I had with Astro the other day.
During this track day I had my car setup with roughly (I will clarify this tonight) -1.5 camber in front and -2.5 in the rear. I had a pretty similar setup the last time as well. Both times I had really bad understeer. This trip was probably not so bad, but I think I can attribute that to 30mm of extra tyre width (255/40R18).
Talking with Astro the other day he mentioned that he didnt seem to suffer from that problem. We ended up comparing camber settings and it turns out he was running a -1 front and -1.5 rear camber.
Basically wanted to identify to people that max is not necesarilly the best. I think next winton I will try -1.5 all around.

ELITE-RX8 08-23-2006, 02:46 AM Off topic but just wish to know.
I know that our 8 can be camber for the rear for sure.
But about the front?? Do we need to get a camber kit for it or do we not and it can just adjust it even its stock.??!!
Thanks
takahashi 08-23-2006, 03:17 AM -1 is a must on the front. If your car can get -1.5 go for it.
Mine is -2.15 degree front. -1.75 rear. Toe in rear +2mm each. Toe out front -1mm each.
I have been using that setting for the last 2 track day and it is pretty much it for me. I found since I have the Tein the camber can be set more aggressively to the front. Try it Willie - it will not wear out your tyre - trust me - I have -2 camber for more than 5000km - no wear inside.
ELITE-RX8 08-23-2006, 03:19 AM taka so where you adjust it from?? the lower arm??
takahashi 08-23-2006, 03:23 AM There are double of nuts at the suspension arm yes.
Go to a tyre place with lasers. Astro and I do it at Stukey's. Donellan is very similar too.
ELITE-RX8 08-23-2006, 03:26 AM icic. thanks taka. i think i know where is it then.
where the wheels to the arm to the car. i think.
went asked it today already. but because some people said can some said not. so just want to make sure.
always want to lower my car. but the wheels always rubs. so need to camber and drop it more.
thanks taka.
auzoom 08-23-2006, 03:41 AM different cars seem to be able to get different amounts of camber on the front. Me I was able to get -1.5 with 225 tyres. With the 255's it was -1.15 that I was running on the front.
The rear seems to be a bit of a different story as I was running -2.5 with both 225 and 255's.
This all changes if you start playing with your caster. But then if you start playing with caster to gain -ve camber you start affecting straigh line stability. But for me on the track I would accept that. On the road I wont.
