http://news.com.com/A+ring+tone+meant+to+fall+on+deaf+ears/2100-11395_3-6082685.html

This story is circling the net right now.. basically, it's a 17khz signal (or ultra high pitch but audible). Adults generally start losing the ability to hear this sound at 40-50 so it's being used by teens to get away with texting in class and such.

I listenned to the sound and I could hear it loud and clear.. In fact, it was so loud and awful, i had to stop it right away. It hurt.. oh it hurt..

Oh lord, that's a horrific noise. I hope whatever kid has that set as their ringtone gets beaten savagely by the other students until they change it.

I think also, at 16 and you cant hear that means you listen to too much loud bass or crappy trance

It could be cheap/worn speakers that won't play that range of sound.

I'm 24 and I can hear it. It feels like someone jabbed a dental pick in my ear though.

If I catch any teenagers playing this on their phones, I'm going to sock 'em one.

I could only hear it faintly, but I do work in a factory. We get our hearing tested every year, and I've noticed a slight degredation in that frequency. The funny thing is, I can hear stuff that's out of the normal range of humans.... There must be something at work that's emitting that frequency and dulling my hearing, or something.

My wife could hear it really well. She said if she ever hears some teen using that as a ring tone she'll beat them to death with their own shoes.

It sounds like a television. If someone turns off the tuner or DVD but leaves the screen on, I'll hear it right from the other room. My wife does it all the time. I'll come home and turn off the TV even before I hug her. She's standing there thinking "How DOES he do that?"

I can't hear it?

Good stuff...I totally can't hear it. I was turning up the volume, not hearing a thing, and my kids were in the other room screaming and covering their ears.

That FUCKING SHIT DRIVES ME BONKERS!!! I know precisely what you're talking about. That noise you can hear all the way across the house.

As for that noise of a ring-tone. That hit a couple nerves and I'm not sure I'm able make a fist because my hands are shaking.
