View Full Version : Mis-information Thread for the humurous soul
RX8-U-UP 08-20-2003, 07:57 AM Okay heres how it works. This is a chance for all you new RX-8 owners out there to spread horrible misinformation that would deter anyone from ever purchasing an RX-8. I don't know about you, but I love being one of the few in town with it, and hope they stop selling them, so I will remain one of the few to have this unique car. I don't care how many times a day I have to push start it.
I would like to know what guage bailing wire is recommended for fast moving sporty type cars. Currently I'm using the smaller guage to hold on extraneous engine components, but I feel the muffler and and alternator might be a little under guaged for safety. Just one last question, when your clutch plate falls out, do you save it?, can they reuse it?, or will I have to buy a new one?
Anyway, the wifes out of the shower, maybe she'll help me get it started so I can head off to work. Anybobdy elses tires bald yet?, a little over 2K miles thats not bad. Oh yea for the gas mileage thread, 10th tank(I think she's starting to loosen up), 4.6 MPG, best tank yet.
Spin9k 08-20-2003, 08:31 AM Hope you are doing this tonge-in-cheek. There is so much mis-information already... if for real... either you are nuts.. or have very poor judgement... or you're a troll.
IOW I don't think it is hurmurous (whatever to hey that is).
Evil Weevil 08-20-2003, 08:32 AM LOL
... nice plan! :D
vudoodoodoo 08-20-2003, 08:35 AM I think the whole rotary misinformation is enough.
Chuck Clifford 08-20-2003, 08:55 AM I myself was very concerned about the HP issue, and noticed that everyone was so fixated on only looking at HP in the forward direction. So I took my RX-8 in and had it dynoed in reverse. I think I found the missing HP, it tested at 287 HP in reverse at 7600 RPM. I would post my results but they said that they never permanently record dyno's taken in reverse.
He also informed me of a little known fact about reverse, the fastest speed ever recorded in reverse was 232 miles an hour by a yellow corvette that had inadvertantly gone down a dead end one lane street in East St. Louis.
eskimo 08-20-2003, 10:29 AM but if it's reverse, don't you have to subtract the HP?
Anyway, here's my problem. My head is too big so I won't fit, but that's not a problem because I got the sunroof. My problem is, what do I do in the winter? I'm thinking of getting the wind deflector, which might help a bit, but maybe I'll just have to wear a hat. My prevoius car was a Miata.

Shamus 08-20-2003, 10:36 AM I measured my trunk area this morning and am very dismayed with the findings... I used the generally accepted "soft-sided" luggage technique to measure my trunk capacity and came up with 7.34 cubic feet rather than the 7.6 cubic feet that Mazda claimed! Even with the handle correction factor and zipper losses applied, I only get to 7.412 cubes! I attempted the european "water-overflow" measurment method, but the caulk wouldn't seal properly.
Now I've heard that the normal carpet nap losses when the car is new will be higher and could account for the difference since the carpet is more poofy and stands up more before the break-in period is done. There has even been some discussion that the nap REALLY doesn't break down until the 20k mile mark, or 10 trips to the golf course with heavy bags. Did the Euro-Market cars did get a higher pile carpeting? I do have a source that told me that a van marked - "Levison's Carpeting and Floor Coverings" was seen parked in the Port area when these cars rolled off the ship.
Mazda needs to resolve this soon or this could spell disaster for their entire trunk line, from Mazda 6 to Protege 5. I've already had two other people mention it at the laundromat and the taunting is getting vicious... "hey, your'e gonna have to put those extra whites in your glove box 'cause that trunk is too small" and - "I heard that an MR2 Spider has more trunk space than those RX-8s".
Now, if you'll excuse me, have to find my dial caliper. Those cup holders look a little small to me...
Chuck Clifford 08-20-2003, 10:38 AM After the incredible reverse horsepower that I experienced on the dyno, I started thinking (more like brainstorming), my head got all tingly. This must be how the revolutionary Mr. Wankel felt. Anyway, if I reversed the polarity on my starter motor so that it would run in the opposite direction, than my engine would start in the opposite direction, essentially making forward become reverse and reverse become forward. Theoretically this should allow me to experience the high reverse gear horse power seen on the dyno in the forward gear direction. Only one question, where can I find the starter on this thing.
(For the semi-humorous soul, this post is tongue in cheek, please do not try this without having a movie camera recording it for a future post)
(For anyone even considering taking this post seriously, seek professional help, your humorous salacious gland is empty and needs refilling)
(For anyone going over my logic path for a possible mistake, good luck. Not with the problem, with eating your next meal)
Genom 08-20-2003, 10:59 AM Also dont forget the 3rd degree burns from the cup holder area.

I wouldn't worry about it, my roof has already started to rust, and I figure by winter it will be pretty much gone and ready for an aftermarket convertable. Thats if they can find enough good metal to attach it to.
OMG this thread is too funny.
jtimbck2 08-20-2003, 11:24 AM I just found out the tweeters in the door were mounted backwards in my RX-8 -- so they're pointed towards the outside! Not only that, but in an effort to reduce the drain on the 8's over-extended electrical system, the stereo AND the HID headlights are powered by their own sets of AAA batteries...needless to say, these are going to need changing quite frequently! I didn't know about this, so I failed to factor this additional maintenance cost into my decision to purchase the 8.
Chuck Clifford 08-20-2003, 01:19 PM Well, I found my starter motor, and come to find out it has a big made in Japan sticker on it. Started looking around and it appears that most of the parts in this car are made in Japan. How long was Mazda going to sit on this little piece of information. I wonder if my leather seats are really leather, or are they eel skin. I guess this explains the little cup holders, and sushi bar between the back seats.
1. it's fast!!! like HeLLa fAsT, d00d! i beat a Hayabusa yesterday after i had just gotten done beating a Ferrari F150...i mean this car is OFF DA HOOK, YO! they can't even hang with me, G!
2. it's furious!!! the women flock to my car like flies on shit! i haven't had pussy since i came out of one but as soon as i got this baby, BANG! i've had chicks over every night, sometimes 2-3 at a time! FO SHIZZO!
3. the cup holder is supposed to be that hot! it's supposed to keep your coffee hot! only wussies drink cold drinks, sucka! thought you knew...
4. the missing HP is fine, the gas mileage is fine, the little quirks with driving a rotary is fine, i mean c'mon, who doesn't mind being forced to sit there for 5 minutes after starting the engine and before turning it off? and no, i'm not overcompensating my purchase...
5. the DVD-Rom DOES play movies and TV! except only when you're not driving or moving...also ONLY when you're not looking...also there's no sound
6. the starter is supposed to be slow like that! it was Mazda's way of making the RX-8 as different as possible...i know it sounds like it doesn't want to start but it does! it's just lazy and needs time to wake up...trust me!
7. the pedals are supposed to be that close together! remember, the average Japanese man is 2'5" and this car is made in Japan...

notdeafyet 08-20-2003, 02:42 PM So I decided to remove the seat heater elements, wires, and switches to save weight. Well, I get the seat out and have it upside down on cardboard (to protect the headrest); I remove the right rail and... voila: A fried chicken head falls out! Totally gross and I'm shocked. Mazda quality control is apparently loose enough to overlook dismembered animals...

Quick_lude 08-20-2003, 02:57 PM Did you guys make sure your cars came with the invaluable muffler bearings? If not, I for sure would complain to the dealer asap!
Chuck Clifford 08-20-2003, 04:02 PM I didn't want to have to tell you all about this:
I was driving through Jacksonville and decided to stop for a drink at a little bar. So me and my wife are sitting there working on our 2nd drink and in walks a guy, and he’s asking who owns that RX-8 out there in the parking lot. I’m thinking oh my god, what happened to my car. I jump up and say that its my car, and he says, nothings wrong, go ahead and sit down I just wanted to talk to you. I sat down figuring that he’s going to ask me how do you like it, and all the usual questions I’ve been getting for the last month. He says that he works at the port and has been working on all the mods they been doing there. I said reeaaaallllly!
He asked do you have the auto or 6 speed, and before I could answer, he said it really doesn’t matter, they both are puttin out 210 horse power. I said you may work at the port, but you sure don’t know your RX-8. He said that he knows what everybody thinks it should be, but he spends his whole day reflashing proms in the ECU’s. Seems that Mazda’s had a little trouble meeting EPA standards and had to lean em down a bit and cut off the third ports till next year. I said, what’s happening next year, he said, they are going to try and sneak the power back in under routine maintenance checks. I said that’s great, what are all the other mods about. He said, not much, but you know that 250 watt stereo you got, YEA, well seems they have new noise standards, so they were installing limiters in all the Bose systems to top them off at 120 watts. I said, you got to be sh—tting me, what else you got bringer of bad news. He said we did tune up the speedo, by thirty miles an hour after you get to 50, just to make you feel like you going faster and make you think you had more power than you really did. So are you saying when I thought I got from 0 to 80 in 7 seconds, I only got to 50, he said, yea something like that, I wasn’t really involved with that mod, but I think that’s what they were saying. He said, all of that stuff just took a few days, the biggest delay at the port was some Ford technicians came down and inserted 3 random failures in each vehicle, I said what the hell for, he said, so that Mazda’s reliability figures would match Fords. He said, don’t worry they got a data base that has all the failures for each VIN # so as to minimize the customers inconvenience. I said now that was real nice of them. He said you enjoy that beautiful vehicle, you hear, I said, bartender bring me another beer.
Skyline Maniac 08-20-2003, 08:15 PM The problem on the Renesis engine has finally been found. Apparently the USDM models have power deficit due to inherent mechanical problem. The rotary engine is designed in Japan with its rotates spinning in clockwise direction. The intake ports, steering wheels, battery and everything else is designed for RHD. When they started to produce the US models with LHD configuration, the engineers couldn't figure out how to copy the design plans in mirror image. The result was intake port is on the wrong side, the rotaries are spinning in the wrong direction~ thus explaining why only 220hp is available on the forward gears. A quick reverse gear dyno of 280hp quickly confirms this issue. Mazda will make a nation wide recall on all RX-8 units sold in the past 2 months. Apparently Mazda dealerships will be able to lift the Renesis engine, rotate it 180 degrees and reinstall it on to the RX-8 to correct this proble. It shouldn't take more than 20 minutes to perform the recall since the rotary is made up of only 3 moving parts with other little parts on these three moving parts. All service will be provided for free, and RX-8 owners will receive a voucher for after-Christmas shopping at Macy's department stores and Starbuck.

It all depend on what you're doing to or with the cup holders. ;)
Hey, this is a great thread. Anyone who doesn't get the humor here should be driving a boring old Accord.
English 09-22-2003, 07:28 PM Ha ha....that's a good one. I heard some of the 8's don't have spare tires!!! Instead they have a big foam thumb so you can hitch a ride home. Ha hahahah!!! Doh!
RX8-TX 09-23-2003, 11:11 PM You know...my biggest dissapointment so far was on my last trip to the dealer. I took my car in for a checkup a few thousand miles earlier due to a problem while starting the car.
Well, the tech drives in with the car, and after around 15 minutes he comes out and tells me that I have to replace my timing belt & one of the intake valve-springs was sticking. What should I do?
Should I call Mazda??..I can't believe that this rotaries are having problems with timing belts and piston-head valves so early. C'mon, I only have 25K miles!
If anyone knows how to change a timing belt in a rotary, please PM me. I don't want to pay the dealer, I might as well do it myself with a user posted 'do-it-yourself' with step by step instructions!
Thanks!
