View Full Version : So who's weighed their car...
t51quicksilver 08-19-2003, 02:07 AM Just what the title says, has anyone actually weighed their car to see what it weighs in at with a full tank or half tank or what ever you have in it. I searched but could only find what Mazda says what the curb weight is with a full load and all that other crap. I got a '93 CYM RX-7 and a '97 Supra and am thinking about addding a new RX-8. I am still trying to find a local dealer that has a 6sp in stock so I can test drive one to find out if its something I will like and weight is going to be one of my deciding factors for future modding:D wink wink big turbo....
Thanks for any info...
Joe
I knew I've seen this somewhere.

RotorGeek 08-19-2003, 09:24 AM Those anybody have the weight of the rims without tires. I am planning on getting different rims but I want too make sure I get either lighter ones or the same as factory
rx8racer 08-19-2003, 09:33 AM I weighed my car on a certified truck scale. It's a 6 speed with the grand touring package and no nav system. With 1/2 tank of gas the car weighed 3000 even. It's a nice easy number to remember!
pelucidor 08-19-2003, 09:39 AM Were you in the car (or any luggage, shopping etc).

that's nice to know...i have navigation however so i can tack on, what, 10 lbs. at the most?
also, just for comparison, what are the weights of some other comparible cars out there? i'm mainly interested in the G35c, 350Z, Evo, STi, and 3000GT...
eccles 08-19-2003, 10:26 AM I'll probably put mine on the SCCA's scales at the Solo II Nationals next month, just for reference.

Factory rims - 18x8 - "deadly" accurate bathroom scale = 20lbs. Pretty light for a factory wheel!
In all seriousness, Mazda Motorsports quotes 20lbs/wheel, and I wanted to verify. It looked about right.
j9fd3s 08-19-2003, 11:37 AM 3000lbs is not bad at all

rx8racer 08-19-2003, 12:25 PM 3000# is the weight without me. Just the car with a 1/2 tank of gas.
rx8daniel 08-19-2003, 12:38 PM what amount of weight do truck scales round to - or to what number of pounds will they give a readout? I remember weighing my New Beetle a couple years ago at a truck stop and it recorded a weight ending in '00' - seems like it was 3000 loaded with travel goods. A couple truck stops are near me and I can try to stop by to weigh mine later tonight.

Thanks Man
Shamus 08-19-2003, 02:03 PM You know, that's one of the things I've always liked about Mazda, they put near competition weight wheels on their sports cars.
It's not something that most of the owners will ever even notice, but for those of us who DO care about such things, having a 20lb 18" wheel is really cool. You'd have to part with some serious green to find lighter wheels.
I remember that the original wheels that came on the 92/93LE Miatas were 9lbs each, awesome.
t51quicksilver 08-19-2003, 05:21 PM Thanks to everyone who replied to my post, I really appreciate all the help. Now just have to find a local dealer who has a 6spd in stock.

canzoomer 08-20-2003, 03:30 AM Stock wheels on a mid 90's RX-7 are forged 16"ers and only weigh 15 lbs. each!
