I bought an additional RX8 badge from my dealer for $17.00, and temporarilly tacked it to my front grill where I was intending to put it. I would like some feedback on how this would look before I semi permanently affix it. I respect many of of the opinions on this forum as it relates to looks, lines and excess. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks.

NICE! But, where will you put the front plate now?

I wish I lived in a state without a front plate I would add the emblem to the front.

Thanks for the feedback.

Florida does not require a front plate. We asked our dealer to not install it, so they left the mount and hardware in the trunk.

Hmmmm. I'm not sure. I think I like.

Is it possible for you to post a wider angled view of the car (wider than the second shot).

If I like, I may do this as well b/c PA doesn't require a front plate as well.

Hi OmegaBob,

This is the only other wide picture I have at this time. It really isn't that good, but it gives a nice view.

Its not bad looking and I wouldn't mind it either way, but I think it looks better without it.

What is most important is if you like it because its yours. The winning blue looks great. I like the extra badge is too much

That's a GREAT pic! To me ANY pic of the Winning Blue is GREAT!;)

My vote is for you to keep it. I like it very much and may just do the same! Thx for the idea.

Question: wadda ya think about a different color? Say blue or do you think that would be too much?

Nah. On second thought, I don't think it would look good in any other color but silver/chrome.

I'd definately keep the RX-8 logo, but get rid of the Mazda symbol to keep the front from looking too busy.

The RX-8 logo in the grill gives the car a meaner, more nastalgic muscle-car look.

i don't like it, i like the clean look of the uninterupted grill

I remember many of the pre-release pics showed the front grill with a black plate with the logo on it. In some of the views it appeared that the RX-8 logo was on the grill and the outline of the plate was totally invisible. I really liked the look and I had also thought of doing the same.

The logo could be a tad bigger though.

I think I like it.
Would help with a lot of the "what car is this" when viewed from the front.
I think I like it.

I used rolled up scotch tape to hold in on for the pictures. I'll put it back on tomorrow a little off center to both sides and get some more pics. Thanks for all the input. I too loved the shots from Japan with the license plate that had a bigger RX-8 on it, but it will probably be a while before aftermarket would make something like that. I was also looking into getting the fender light covers lazer etched with the RX-8 inside them on the Facets. Will probably buy a couple of stock yellow lenses to let some local etchers play with. All, Thanks again.

Wow man, geez. I think I'm having some sort of flashback. Must be from growing up in the '70's, but I was staring at your last pic and my tired eyes kind of let it fuzz-out, and there it is! Kind of looks like Bugs Bunny with his ears tucked-down around his neck! The rotary accents in the seats are his eyes! Aaaaaah! See it?!

Wow! I like it too. I might do that. It won't be unique too much longer if other people think like me. I'm glad we live in a state that doesn't require a front plate.

although i agree with the above statement, the muscle car part, i personally dont like it, maybe it is the nostalgia thing, maybe it looks to old school for me, but whatever it is, i dont like it.

if you like it though, go for it, its your car afterall

as a side note, sorry for quoting the entire post though i only used part of it, i had just never used the quote feature before so figured id give it a try, is there a way to quote just part of a post?

Staying away from passing judgement, I think the badge reduces the agressiveness of the air intake for a more feminine apperance. The badge looks a little like a necklace.

Shouldn't you put it on back to front, so people can read it correctly in their rear view mirror ;)

B-Nez
08-19-2003, 07:22 AM
I, too, was just thinking Too bad you can't put it on backwards, so when you zoom zoom up behind someone on the highway they can read what it is and know to move move!

RX8-U-UP

The reverse spelling will have to be aftermarket, good idea, but this is the same badge that is on the back. So one side is chrome, and the other is double-sided tape on a flat surface. It should save people from walking to the back to see what it is while parked. I'm still thinking of some non permanent, non destructive way to affix it, and easily take it on and off. That way depending on my mood, or situation, put it on or take it off. Thanks again for all the input.

I like that, it looks good. It may, however, make the car look to busy. I wonder how it would look with the front mazda symbol and the rear Rx-8 badge removed... hmmm... It is these little unique things that people do to their car that makes it truly theirs.

ditto to that.

on a side note...how bout the "rx-8 rotary emblem" (ie. wheel centers, door sills...) in place of the "flying m" on the front? just thought of that. hmmm...it might look nice. (like the viper, or corvette front badges.)

i don't have a lot of "photochopping" time so if anyone beats me to it please post it. otherwise i'll post as soon as i have time to do it.

just remember...it was MY idea! ;) (or at least i was the first to post it...?)

I was waiting for Bro Voodoo to chime in.

I like the combination of the grill molding and badge - at least on Titanium but don't remember seeing the same mod on a winning blue.

Not sure I like the badge without the molding though.

I'm still here, just not posting as much. FYI, I did install it on my front grill 3 months ago. Used a hot glue gun with the clear stick, it is easily removeable, with no evidence of being on there when removed. It was a little off center on my first attempt, so I popped it off, templated the area I wanted it to go, then reaffixed it. I have added the front rotary accent since the picture. When I took it to the dealer for its first service, the service manager and the mechanic that worked it, both said they liked all the accessories I added, but specifically mentioned how good they thought the front grill badge made it look. The manager said he never remembered seeing it in the accessories book, and I told him that it was the rear badge affixed to the front, and was not a formal accessory. Both commented that the front badge looked good and caught their eye at different times during the visit. Needless to say, it appears to be one of the most noticed accessories, from people who know and see more RX-8's than I do. It comes off very clean in the event I get tired of it, or want to change it out for a blue one.

I really like it! The grill area is just too large an expanse of black, particularly on the lighter colored vehicles. The badge brightens it up just enough. I'm planning on making grilles for the a/c and oil coolers and was pondering whether or not to replace the radiator grille, just for this "black hole" reason. Now I think I won't have to!

I remember reading that one of the rear badges was not affixed with posts - was it the RX-8 logo? If so I'll plan on a transplant when I get mine. Cost - $0! Thanks for the idea!!!!

RX8-U-UP
01-24-2004, 03:27 PM
Nubo, The RX-8 that is on the back is taped. I too am planning to cover the radiator opennings with some sort of free flowing material, just haven't decided on what kind. I'm thinking about velcro to hold it, so it will be easy on and off for cleaning.

Looks great - I also thought the corporate pix with the RX8 logo was a grille badge and was frankly disappointed when I found out it wasn't an available accessory. Glad you clued me in to this approach. Do agree that the Mazda whale tail badge makes it look a little too busy, gut there are a pair of locating holes under that badge that would need to be cleaned up.

Hey de-badge guys: how big a deal was that? Body shop trip - am I right?

naaa..

I'd stick with the cleaner look.. I honestly think it doesn't add much the car.. the car by itself says alot already..

How funny that this thread was revived, because I saw you the other day on North Hill Ave. Except, I didn't think it was you, because I forgot that you had badged the front. I specifically saw it as I passed and thought that it looked really sharp. I wondered what forward-thinking person might be driving it. What a goof. Yeah, after seeing it in person, it looks really slick. Very distinctive, yet tasteful. I know, my car was filthy! :( I washed it yesterday.

RX8-U-UP
01-25-2004, 12:57 PM
Thanks B-Nez. With all the new 8 owners a lot of forgotten threads are getting revived. The pictures I originally posted really don't do it justice, cuz it was taped on and you can see the connecting tape in the closeup pictures. Mine was looking pretty grubby last week when I saw you pass. Been waiting for a clear day (yesterday) to clean her all up.

The badge I bought from the dealer had some really strong epoxy type tape, so I just assumed that that was all they used to hold it on, sorry about the mis-info on the back RX-8 badge. They probably put holes just to discourage debadging, IMO a template would have been a much less obtrusive way to line it up.

Is that the same one thats on the rear of the car?

RX8-U-UP
01-27-2004, 08:37 AM
RogueRX8, Yes it is the same badge. It comes in three parts. It goes on clean and comes off very clean. So the good thing is you can wear it for one month or week, then take it off for a while, then reaffix it. It takes me about 5 minutes, after the glue gun warms up.

i myself are one that hates badges. but that really doesn't look bad at all, except the fact that Mazda made everything else look like a rotor, so it would be kind of obvious of what it is. but its does look nice either way.

I don't think it looks too bad, but I also would prefer it without the RX-8 badge simply because it makes the front busy, and because the model car tags are usually on the rear of the car.
