I think buying the auto for that reason is only the solution for short term. Sure you could drive it right away, but after a little while you'll get the knack of the manual and will be very glad you didn't get the automatic.

oh i def agree 100%.. only thing that sux is that the RX-8 is new and the reactions of others is awesome.. i jsut wish i could drive around and take in the admirations of others..

sounds shalllow but honestly i was going to Get an EVO and didnt care what others thought. Everyone was telling me its an ugly car.. I got the RX-8 and then others started stopin my dad and I asking about the car neighbors come over.. Im suprised at the reaction.
This adds to the fact this is the first car ive purchased on my own. Usually my parents have helped me in the past but since graduating and getting a job i decided to get a new car and extremely proud of my purchase..

oh well few more days ill be better at stick. I can drive it now just dont wanna take a risk on main roads..

hey i picked up my auto 9 last tuesday and i love it. It is pleanty fast and has all the looks. Plus you have the advantage of the paddle shifters on the steering wheel, then when you do not feel like shifting you don't have to.

When it comes down to it, the way you'll really learn, is getting out on some relatively easy AND FLAT!! road where you're under some pressure from traffic, and chances are you'll do just fine. But don't let it get you down if you stall a few times, it happens to everybody.

Anyone who has read about this whole horsepower issue with the 6 speed may change their mind about getting the 6 speed.

I got the automatic just for the laziness and, well, I don't know...
