View Full Version : Benifits of ceramic coatings on rotor face?

Just as the title states, I'm wondering what benifits would happen if our engine rotors were coated with a heat retentive ceramic coating. I've searched the rx-7 boards but nothing jumped out at me, and I'm wondering what the more enlightened member have to say.

Not only that but how would the apex seals hold up to a low friction coating on the rotor housing? Would that even be practical with a scraping seal constantly moving over the coating.

A ceramic coating would keep the heat off the face of the rotor. I don't know if this would really do any good... The housing might heat up a bit more, but I would imagine it would raise your exhaust temps.

Perhaps it would help prevent detonation? With a cooler face, there wouldn't be as much heat being put into the fresh charge...

I don't know for sure, but these are some things I think would happen...
