I got this aem intake
i got sick of waiting for ms cai

it looks really nice
but the FRONT reinforcement had to be removed to install

that sucks
not to mention now the front bumper is not on a firmly due to the front rebar being done

im not sure how i like the looks of it
kinda looks like the rice front mount intercoolers LOL :rollingla

it was used so i cleaned it up and have not drove the car yet
i will see if its worth it performance wise tomorrow

otherwise maybe i'll sell it
and get my 4th intake for this car LOL
i had k&n 1 and 2 before this

should have waited ... the MS CAI looks much cleaner !

although that is really not that bad, and the air will be nice and fresh

well at least it doesnt look like you have to take your bumper off to change the filter

Looks nice...

I have the AEM too.. and the sound is nice.. not too obvious unless u step on the gas... but the sound is nice...

for me i just forced my way to the the intake in instead of takeing the front reinforcment.. it scratch a little on the tube but then u can't see it so that save me some time..

again, nice add on

That's weird. Your intake is red like the ones that need to be oiled. My AEM CAI came with a dry filter that's light grey. Does AEM have two kinds of filters they ship for there CAIs? Not that I'm complaining.

i belive they do have two types of filter

well i drove the car and it sounds very light until you smash on it

no high pitch or ricey sound,
its very strong or solid sounding
only problem i have is whenever i smash on the pedal or get to high rpm's the car seems to blog down or fight it

I believe all actual Cold Air Intakes do this (not short ram)...

u sure? I thought cold air intakes breath better at high rpms???

Actually you are right, I missread and thought it was bogging at low rpms.

well mine doesnt
i dont think its the intake though because it happened with my k&n also
maybe my CAT is clogged

I have the same intake waiting for my car when I get it back, and for the folks who haven't been following the Mspeed cai, it's pretty much identical save for price I guess. (?) Thanks for taking pics with it, I was hoping to see how it looked with the mazdapseed front :)

That is really exposing it to the elements. I wonder how rocks, water, hail and sleet will affect it?

otherwise that would be a pretty ridiculous location to mount an intake, the MS grill is sturdy, good stuff ... I dont imagine much will be able to get to mine

Dro, you have the replica too?

Dro
05-20-2006, 11:48 AM
nope, didnt even notice his was the replica ! well maybe he will have more problems but i dont have any experience with anything but the authentic ms front, and the grill is pretty secure

NgoRX8

im sure the intake will be fine. its high enough not to suck in too much water and with a grill already in front rocks aren't going to reek havoc on it. hail and sleet won't really affect it down here in socal. it does look really out in the open, but its functional.

Wow. Looks like it's got some potential for some gains. Didn't realize it hung so low.

Wow. Looks like it's got some potential for some gains. .

compared to what and why?

NgoRX8
05-21-2006, 03:53 AM
compared to every other intake. because it looks more open to cold air so it will get more air...

compared to what and why?
Compared to my REVi without duct, it looks much more exposed to direct airflow, and I simply implied that these conditions would be more conducive to making power. A lot of my comment has to do with the replica kit paired with the intake.

it sucks cleaning my car with the filter right there

The mS bumper has always looked like a big mouth to me, now you have a tongue. :)

Thew K/N works fine in Snowfl8k's 8...I would assume the problems you are having is the CAT.
