XDEEDUBBX 05-18-2006, 05:34 PM are those stickers?
Bart! 05-18-2006, 05:35 PM The intake box stayed the same because I'm doing the turbo kit installation this saturday.
HolyCross05 05-18-2006, 05:37 PM The intake box stayed the same because I'm doing the turbo kit installation this saturday.
Did you decide to do the install yourself or are you having someone do it?
Bart! 05-18-2006, 05:39 PM Did you decide to do the install yourself or are you having someone do it?
My self, a friend who's done a turbo install on his Miata, and 2 mechanics. Anyways, what do you guys think of the cf?
NgoRX8 05-18-2006, 05:41 PM looks like stickers. doesn't have the gloss to real cf.
Bart! 05-18-2006, 05:43 PM looks like stickers. doesn't have the glass to real cf.
It is, bought a huge sheet of cf vinyl. It honostly looks great in person, pictures don't do it justice.
XDEEDUBBX 05-18-2006, 05:47 PM so they are stickers right?
mysql101 05-18-2006, 05:48 PM so they are stickers right?Yes, but they're ultra lightweight.
BlueEyes 05-18-2006, 05:49 PM Did that guy just say carbon fibre vinyl? What's your turbo kit made of?
Bart! 05-18-2006, 06:17 PM Hey man, I rather spend $5 on the vinyl than pay god knows how much for the real thing.. besides, I did my b-pillars too. The rest of my money went towards:

XDEEDUBBX 05-18-2006, 06:28 PM nice carpet..hahaha
Bart! 05-18-2006, 06:30 PM That's actually my garage rug.
Xantium 05-18-2006, 06:33 PM You should peel those stickers off.
XDEEDUBBX 05-18-2006, 06:37 PM hahaha
Aipex8 05-18-2006, 06:39 PM Hey man, I rather spend $5 on the vinyl than pay god knows how much for the real thing.
I don't understand that. You're spending all this money on a turbo, but you don't care if your car looks cheap (IMO) with carbon fiber "look" stickers all over it? I'd say the stock plastic looks much better. Don't get me wrong, I think real CF looks cool, even if it's just a layer over the OEM part (ie. no weight saving, strictly for looks).
You get what you pay for. Real carbon fiber has a 3D look to it because it's actually woven cloth. The best carbon fiber look stickers can't emulate this, and most are just a series of circles printed on black (like all Mazdaspeeds CF stuff). It really doesn't even look like carbon fiber.
I say at least take it off the b-pillar and get these (http://www.evo-r.net/product/RX-8/CFS/B_pillar.htm).
I AM THE RED WORM 05-18-2006, 06:43 PM Yes, but they're ultra lightweight.
haha... that's funny.

Bart! 05-18-2006, 06:59 PM Haha, alright alright.
HolyCross05 05-18-2006, 09:08 PM Cabon fiber imitation sickers!? First the guy with the veilside wing on his stock 8, now this? I've seen too much today...
BlueEyes 05-18-2006, 09:11 PM Don't forget abflug guy, and the canards guy. Ike was right.
JeRKy 8 Owner 05-18-2006, 09:22 PM For those of you who are mocking this guy, you do realize that the black b-pillars are just stickers too, right?
BlueEyes 05-18-2006, 09:32 PM yes
supergoat 05-18-2006, 09:42 PM It's your car do what you want. :) It really doesn't look that bad. :)
Bart! 05-18-2006, 10:47 PM Not everyone's cup of tee, I really like it but oh well.
StewyRX8 05-18-2006, 11:53 PM I got some smurfs stickers that my little sister gave me...
HolyCross05 05-18-2006, 11:57 PM Don't forget abflug guy, and the canards guy. Ike was right.
This is probably because more ricers are discovering the $7-9K off MSRP deals that you can on the 8.
tiggerlee 05-18-2006, 11:58 PM It honostly looks great in person, pictures don't do it justice.
I highly doubt that.
tiggerlee 05-18-2006, 11:59 PM I got some smurfs stickers that my little sister gave me...
Those would look kick ass on a blue 8!! :cwm27:
Bart! 05-19-2006, 12:03 AM haha, where can I buy the real covers?
adrian-1 05-19-2006, 12:23 AM The real deal ones look better and match perfectly with the MS strut bar. I got them from a forum vendor but has since gone out of business.

SoFL_RX8 05-19-2006, 12:54 AM Now THAT looks tight... Def gunna get me some of thoes when I tackel my engine bay.
yiksing 05-19-2006, 01:11 AM Considering the price of the real stuff, most owners will just stick to stickers. I just cracked a clip on the battery cover and I couldn't justify the cost of paying 99 US dollars for one since it doesn't really perform other function except wow factor.
XDEEDUBBX 05-19-2006, 01:29 AM Cabon fiber imitation sickers!? First the guy with the veilside wing on his stock 8, now this? I've seen too much today...
hahahaha
XDEEDUBBX 05-19-2006, 01:31 AM yes i think the real ones look much better too. I got mine from the same place as adrian

NgoRX8 05-19-2006, 03:56 AM Yea deedubb's engine bay is clean enough to eat off of. I plan to steal his cf covers one day. :)
adrian-1 05-19-2006, 04:29 AM Don't forget the CF dash pod cover.

And I took those stickers off my car as well.
VarneyMazda 05-19-2006, 10:10 AM Keep us posted on the turbo install.
Happy boosting!
zoom44 05-19-2006, 10:27 AM i had no idea anyone made a CF piece to replace that plastic piece that goes over where the VFAD used to be. thats cool
XDEEDUBBX 05-19-2006, 11:16 AM i want that dash pod cover, and that shroud. haha
StewyRX8 05-19-2006, 07:28 PM Sick bay Deedubb!
EyeBall Fixer...(o)(x) 05-19-2006, 07:44 PM Tape vs. CF....? Hmmmm?!? Lets think about this...
He invested his cash on a turbo instead of wasting it on something that doesn't
make him go any faster
Hats off to you bud!

But in that same breath you could say, if someone is willing to spend the money on a turbo, then why cheap out on appearance? Kinda like buying an expensive house and filling it with furniture made out of particle board and balsa wood.
yiksing 05-19-2006, 11:19 PM He ran out of funds after he spend so much on the turbo.... haha
Bart! 05-19-2006, 11:40 PM The turbo installation is about 50% done, I worked on it for about 4-5 hours today and completed most of the difficult tasks which believe it or not is removing the stock parts such as the exhaust manifold etc. I'll let you guys know when I'm done.
NoRx8 05-20-2006, 08:36 AM In regards to the turbo install: Right on, dude. Glad you're not letting the haters get to you. And I don't think you're in the same group as the Veilside-wing guy because you're actually doing performance mods, pretty major ones I might add. :icon_tup:
P.S. I choose the stock black-out sticker over OEM paint showing for the B-pillar because it looks "cleaner", but just my opinion. My order of preference (for the B-pillar) is:
1) Real carbon stickers
2) OEM black sticker
3) OEM paint showing
4) And uh... "Never never never never never" to the faux carbon stickers. I don't know if I have enough "nevers" in there, but feel free to add some for me.

Haha, yeah I got the point.. one of my buddies told me he didn't like it either, but it's not like im overwhelmed because I put some cf stickers on the covers, I honostly don't give a crap lol.
Anyway, yeah I'm headed to "The Hose Shop" in Piscatawy NJ to get a 32 inch stainless steel hose made for me because the one that Greddy sent is a bit cracked where the nipple comes out. I don't want that shit to explode and start leaking oil everywhere. It's kind of pathetic of them not to watch out for crap like this, if I hadn't had noticed it.. could've caused a leak, or worse.. an engine fire. That exhaust manifold gets red hot, and if that line starts spitting.. :banghead: Other than that, I'll have the entire thing completed today.
Pics and videos right after :]

I didn't know that stickers made your car look clean... well, you did say that it's your opinion.
Gyro_Bot 03-18-2009, 01:43 PM I'm glad I found an appropriate thread for this question.
I'm pre-planning the look of my next RX8 (white) and among the visual objectives, is to apply a two tone appearance.
I'm planning to add REAL carbon fibre components to set up this appearance. Now I've run into a snag... I do not want a carbon fibre hood, however I am entertaining the idea of a carbon fiber triangle on the hood. With this applied, I'm planning on adding a custom color vinyl onto the carbon fiber triangle. This will be a finishing touch.
Recap:
Hood triangle: CF: Matches the other body work.
The Vinyl (placed on the CF piece): Orange text: "Mazda Speed"
I don't want fake CF stickers if possible. A real carbon fiber piece would be preferable.
Here is one band I've come across:

Juansito 03-18-2009, 02:03 PM Pictures are gone :(
pdxhak 03-18-2009, 02:26 PM Not trying to be an ass but a fake CF sticker is really no different than a real CF sticker.

Me: Admitting lack of knowledge here... I thought it was possible, carbon fiber would be flexible when not formed with epoxy. That is, real carbon fiber attached to a adhesive backing, covered with a stretchable film surface.
I was hoping for this... rather than a printout of "the look of CF" slapped to a sticker sheet.
pdxhak 03-18-2009, 02:48 PM Either way you are looking into applying a sticker to your hood to make it look like it is CF. Regardless if it a real CF sticker or fake CF sticker, it is still fake. JMO :)

Alternatively... I could buy a real carbon fiber hood sand down the whole surface and mask off the triangle, get the hood painted, then clear coat the whole hood again.
Or... I could buy some CF sticker and "stick it"
LOL
