I'm new here and I am sure than this thread has come along somwhere. I jsut recently purchased an 06' 8 and i am seriously looking into putting some mods on it. I had looked at a Greddy stage 2 cat back and it looks good but I want to hear what yall think is the best setup for your money, that is louder than the stock, but is deep and mellow and not very ricey. Any input is appreciated.

I have the Racing Beat. It is great sounding, the vids don't really do it any justice. Once you hear it in person, you know it.

the audio clips online wont really help much, i have the greddy sp2, i thnk the racing beat is the quietest of the bunch, i HIGHLY recommend u hear the exhaust in person b4 u buy it.

^ exactly. you should hear it in person before deciding. I'm fond of the racingbeat and hks exhaust, but again this is all purely objective.
and performance is out of the question with exhausts, you'll get about the same up in hp with all of them.

cept for the Turbo XS....remember, but it's a tad loud I hear. The 3 inch piping helps gain pretty good power, especially for a Turbo car.

I'm on the fense...but Borla is in the lead along with maybe the Turbo XS.

These are the exhausts out on the market for our car

Borla
B&B
JIC
OBX-R
Greddy Sp2
HKS
RacingBeat
Cork Sport
MAZDASPEED
Tanabe
Espelir
Turbo XS
Hymee

No Matter which one of these you'll get they all have the same HP gains, but the only thing is that some maybe louder than others such as B&B which is probably the loudest....

So does that mean you want to sell me your Racing Beat :wiggle: ? Since Turbo XS would be such an excellent application for a turbo charged 8.

B&B with RP Supercat, this makes for a LOUD combo. This clip doesnt do it justice it sounds louder and ricier under load(trying to get a drive by clip).

Love the sound of my Racing Beat!
Racing Beat sounds great. It sounds stock-ish when cold, it really needs 5 minutes of driving to come through. Once it warms up, it has a great deep note. Not raspy at all. When you are coming off high revs, the popping sound is not loud like some exhausts, but definitely noticeable. It's more deep rather than loud: you feel the pop. The "brap" when you get off the gas is much more noticeable, louder and deeper.

I have a feeling that Mazda didn't think that the customers would like the misfire/brapping sounds of the rotary engine, so they probably designed the stock exhaust to filter out those low-frequency sounds. This makes the stock exhaust rather lacking in the deep/rumble department, which, with the rotary, is even worse. I can see the "brap" pissing some people off, if the car had the RB exhaust as stock.

Racing Beat exhaust sounds really nice when you are doing low-speed low-RPM maneuvers, such as driving around a parking lot (and you are blipping the throttle as you are feathering the clutch). When you get on it, it comes alive as well, but it's not that loud. It has a real good note though, the exhaust sings. However, if you are looking for a real nasty "racing" sound when you are up on the revs, you probably want something else.

In the first two weeks of owning the RB exhaust, I was kinda disappointed until I realized that the it needs some warm-up time (that's probably true of some other exhausts too). I got it in the middle of the winter (end of Dec) and thus it would take even longer to warm up when it was 5 degrees outside. So if you are trying to show off the exhaust sound to your friends, be sure to do it with a warmed-up exhaust.

I know that RB sounds kinda cocky when they say that they have come up with the way a rotary engine should sounds, but, daymn, I love how it sounds. It's the "classiest" sounding exhaust in my opinion, because there's little rasp and it's not that loud. The car really should have come stock with that exhaust, and then you would've seen reviewers rave about it in the magazines.

It also looks really nice! (the tips aren't humongous, they are just right)

I compared it to the sound of the Borla and the Borla has some rasp (just some, not much), maybe a tad less deep. The Borla seems a little louder. I remember Borla looking also very nice.

Compared to the Corksport/Mazdaspeed exhaust, and that one has a bunch more raspiness, really a higher tone overall. Definitely louder.

That's about it for the exhausts that I've heard that I remember any particular about.
