Yahoo Music Unlimited (http://music.yahoo.com/unlimited) plus MuvAudio software (http://www.muvaudio.com) - $78 for unlimited music downloads. Over 1 million to choose from.
MusicMP3.ru (http://www.MusicMP3.ru) - Has a huge selection. Most songs are $.08 or less per. Most albums are less then $1.25
Although I liked the idea of limewire, kazaa, and even getting music from IRC groups, I was always irritated that the quality would vary greatly, and you couldn't always get what you wanted, when you wanted.
After much research on the pay sites, Rhapsody, Napster, iTunes, Yahoo, MSN, F.Y.E., and several others.
I was sure I didn't want to pay per song, so I was leaning towards the subsciptions services. You can download unlimited music, but you're restricted on the use of the music. (i.e. you can't burn it, or transfer it to another pc)
****Yahoo Music Unlimited (http://music.yahoo.com/unlimited) plus MuvAudio software (http://www.muvaudio.com)****
I decided on Yahoo Music Unlimited, because I was getting a 40gb MP3 player that was compatible w/ protected WMA files.
Yahoo was $60 for the whole year, and within 2 months I had downloaded 2000 songs.
It was still a little frustrating to get the music to sync w/ my MP3 player, and the song licenses would expire each month, so all the music had to be re-sync'd.
So, I bought MuvAudio software for $18.
It re-records your music as an unprotected MP3 file.
All-in-all I paid $78. I've downloaded about 3200 songs. So that breaks down to $.02 per song. And, I still got a few months left.
Now the other issue w/ subscription music is that not all songs and artist are available on the service. Some of them you have to buy out right. Others, are not even listed. For example, Red Hot Chili Peppers new album Stadium Arcadium has 28 songs. Not available for subscription service, but you can buy them at $.79 per song. $22.12 for the whole album.
****MusicMP3.ru (http://www.MusicMP3.ru)****
Enter the next greatest site I've ever seen for music.
MusicMP3.ru
That's right ".ru" means it's based out of Russia, which made me very
skeptical about giving my credit card info to them.
I decided to use my PayPal debit card, because transactions are limited to
my balance.
I put $35 bucks in my account, and signed up for the $30 package.
Song prices on this site are ridiculously low.
I bought Stadium Arcadium for $2.24, $.08 per song.
