View Full Version : South FL Road trip? Kuf 08-14-2003, 10:57 PM Any South Flordia 8 owners want to plan a road trip somewhere? Keywest, Naples, Daytona, Tampa? Superfan 08-14-2003, 11:29 PM I vote for keywest. I've never been down their and I've lived in Miami my whole life. Genom 08-15-2003, 12:14 AM My fiance's family has a house in key largo. Dunno how willing they would be to lend me the keys, but would make a nice pitstop, about halfway down to key west. Just has to be a few weeks while I recover from the downpayment on my car :D Although Tampa and Busch Gardens is nice :D BTW, I just saw a silver RX-8 in my complex. So there's another one near me already! TJRX8 08-15-2003, 12:42 AM If you guys head to Tampa or Orlando let me know. I'll meet you somewhere. Kuf 08-16-2003, 04:21 PM So I guess there are only 3 of us in South FL? Any other owners out there? rx8infl 08-16-2003, 06:38 PM nope.......more of us in here,im in pembroke pines,,,,,,,,,,sounds interestiing,,,,,or maybe like meet somewhere local.......... strong bad 08-17-2003, 10:58 AM i'm at pines, but go to school in Orlando... Prowla 08-17-2003, 11:04 AM If you're willing to wait a few months, there will be an abundance of 8 owners (including my mother). Make it a nice caravan to an event hosted by MRCCFL. (MRCCFL) Thoai 08-17-2003, 02:17 PM I'm down for a rx-8 cruise, haven't seen too many in south Florida yet just a yellow one in Ft. Lauderdale the other day. Let me know if any of you are going to set up something. Peace! Genom 08-17-2003, 08:49 PM Why dont we meet up in 2 weeks? Say do a cruise down AIA on the beach in Ft. Lauderdale down to Las Olas. Maybe stop for some food and head out for a drive? We do it early and The Floridian is a great breakfast stop. Has a nice metered (cheap) parking across the street that I've never had trouble with. Usually nice cars in the lot so everybody watches out. RodsterinFL 08-17-2003, 09:51 PM tHE mrccfl is the Mazda Rotary Club of Central Florida. (think I got it right) I just joined their e-mail group last week. They seem to be very active. Prowla 08-17-2003, 10:41 PM Sorry, lol... Forgot there's some new enthusiasts. MRCCFL = Mazda Rotary Car Club of Florida. Kuf 08-17-2003, 11:45 PM Originally posted by Genom Why dont we meet up in 2 weeks? I'll catch you all next time :) Bridged13B 08-19-2003, 10:31 PM Cruise would be good. Ill go. I met someone with a yellow 8 that would go as well. TJRX8 08-20-2003, 07:35 PM How about Orlando "toward" more RX-8 owners not away from us? Or even to the West coast like Ft Myers? It's around 300 miles from Tampa, I couldn't afford the trip in my 8. ;-) Genom 08-20-2003, 09:27 PM Uhm, Orlando is farther from Miami than Tampa from Ft. Lauderdale :D We are in the same pickle. Who other RX-8 drivers are out that ways and want to meet up? If we are going to meet up with 4-5 people I'll drive Miami-Tampa. If it's just you, I think yer gonna be hoofing yer ass down to us :D RX-8 Zoomster 08-20-2003, 10:14 PM Well, Tom. Looks like we'll have to organize a Central Florida RX-8 owner's meet ourselves. ;) TJRX8 08-20-2003, 10:14 PM For some reason I thought you guys were talking about going to the Keys. Hence my "opposite" direction comment. Anyway... Tampa to Ft Laud: 270 Ft Laud to Orlando: 220 Miami to Orlando: 245 Tampa to Miami: 285 Miami to Cocoa: 204 Tampa to Cocoa: 140 Miami to Ft Myers: 155 Tampa to Ft Myers: 131 Miami to Naples: 123 Tampa to Naples: 169 Just some numbers compliments of Yahoo Maps...whaddya think? strong bad 08-20-2003, 11:57 PM Originally posted by Genom If we are going to meet up with 4-5 people I'll drive Miami-Tampa. If it's just you, I think yer gonna be hoofing yer ass down to us :D Orlando traffic SUCKS though. I'm a UCF student in Orlando and driving around just BLOWS most of the time. There is a lot of construction in some areas, so they've narrowed roads down a few lanes (not to mention that they're all bumpy and got several potholes). Alternatively, the highways are RAPED with toll booths, and aren't much better on traffic. Wait, I was supposed to be selling you guys on driving up HERE, wasn't I? Oops. :( RX-8 Zoomster 08-21-2003, 12:31 AM Originally posted by strong bad Orlando traffic SUCKS though. I'm a UCF student in Orlando and driving around just BLOWS most of the time. Oops. :( Traffic in the large cities, Orlando, Tampa, Jacksonville, Miami, all suck certain times of the day. I'm 45 years old, I have more years driving then your life on this earth. Although driving in those situations will still blow, believe me, after many years of driving experience, you'll learn to tolerate it and it will be less frustrating to you. All it takes is patience my son. ;) So with that said, you didn't deter me from wanting to drive from Tampa to Orlando. Orlando is a great place for a meet. Make plans for a full weekend, and after the meet is over, visit a few attractions to complete your trip. :D P.S. PM me. My daughter goes to USF and she has a few friends attending UCF. Just curious to know if you know any of them. Kuf 08-21-2003, 12:37 AM Genom 08-21-2003, 03:12 PM Naples or Ft. Myers seems ot be a better mid-point if we are gonna have people from both south and central florida going. Orlando atractions are OK, but too many lines and too much money if ya ask me. Although I could prolly get us in the backdoor at Disney/MGM/Epcot, a 9 car caravan might be commented on :D RX-8 Zoomster 08-21-2003, 04:36 PM Originally posted by Genom Naples or Ft. Although I could prolly get us in the backdoor at Disney/MGM/Epcot, a 9 car caravan might be commented on :D I do agree. Naples would be a great mid point for both groups. My point to strong bad was that "bad" traffic should not be the major factor in deciding on a meet, if Orlando was chosen. A compromising proximaty to those who want to meet should be the deciding factor. Which is why, in our case for a Southern Florida/Central Florida owners meet, a more pratical chose would be the two city you mentioned. P.S. Let's not plan anything till after 1 October (when I due to get back). :D Seriously, if you all want to meet earlier, my spirit will be with you. Genom 08-21-2003, 05:48 PM Welp, I'm trying to get a sunday meet for the people kinda local to me (Miami, Ft. Lauderdale). PM me if you want to hang out for a while sunday afternoon. But we can hold more than 1 meet in Naples. It IS only a couple hours drive for most people here, and in this car thats not a big deal :D Just remember! Alligator Alley has stationary radar traps! (I KNOW :( ) TJRX8 08-21-2003, 11:23 PM Originally posted by RX-8 Zoomster P.S. See ya soon for that Naples/Ft Myers meet. Your first one to organize when you get back. RX-8 Zoomster 08-22-2003, 01:43 AM Originally posted by TJRX8 Hey short-timer! PM me sometime with the specific day and time. TJRX8 08-22-2003, 09:41 PM Better hurry back Zoomster. If I get the buy-back letter I only have 30 days to make a decision. Will be putting lot's of miles in the mean time. :D RX-8 Zoomster 08-23-2003, 06:06 AM Originally posted by TJRX8 Better hurry back Zoomster. I understand, if you want to do that and then turn around and try to get a better deal on it. But I'm a little surprised, on the other hand, that you won't keep it since you have enjoyed it thus far - until the revised HP numbers came out. Mark, It's more of a financial decision it really has nothing to do with the HP. I don't recall ever complaining about the HP. I think the car is pleanty fast. As evident by my recent posts my big concern is the MPG. With the cost of gas ever climbing I figured with my normal driving patterns and (only) $1.70 for premium, it will cost me around $100 (conservative) extra a month over my other car. I love the RX-8 and will be defending it to my death as a great car. If the MPG improves to even 19-20 I will probably opt for the incentives and keep the car. I mentione in another thread that maybe we can get some extras from the dealer to save them some extra work in returns and egg on the face. Only time will tell. But I'll enjoy it while I have it. :D RX-8 Zoomster 08-23-2003, 08:11 PM Originally posted by TJRX8 Mark, It's more of a financial decision it really has nothing to do with the HP. As for you MPG, I hope it improves to the point you feel you want to keep the car rather than use the buyback. I would hate to have my car and then I be the one waiting for you (till you got your replacement RX), so we two can meet with our cars. Enjoy what you have. :D 8thSin 08-28-2003, 11:28 AM Let's go! I'm in Orlando... MPG is a thing of the past now.. I'm driving an RX-8 f MPG! Add me to the list.. and where are we going? strong bad 08-28-2003, 10:50 PM So...can we get a tally of how many ppl are where? this way we can maybe organize a "local" meet up, which won't require much sacrifice of others in terms of making a long drive or anything. And at the same time, for those who still want to coordinate a longer distanced meet, we can get a better idea of which area has more ppl...so we can be like, "Well we have more ppl over here, why don't you drive to us?" :) Oh, BTW add me to the Orlando list... TJRX8 08-29-2003, 12:42 AM How about a Lakeland Hooter's meeting? It's about halfway between Tampa and Orlando. Some night after work would be great, or a weekend. If I still have mine when Zoomster gets back I'm sure he'll join in. RX-8 Zoomster 08-29-2003, 01:03 AM Originally posted by TJRX8 How about a Lakeland Hooter's meeting? I may joke around, but seriously she's a requirement for me. It wouldn't be the same without her. As for meetings and gatherings, I'll be pretty tied up for a couple weeks after I get back 1 Oct. Need to spend time, getting reaquainted with the wife, after being away for a year. ;) . I plan on going down to South Beach, one of our favorite places the first week, and then coming back home to chill out in my pool, we just built. So if we gather or meet sometime in the first few weeks of October, I'll try to fit it in my schedule. ViviMiamiRX8luv 08-29-2003, 10:29 PM Hi RX 8 Owners, I live in S. Florida and got mine 2 weeks ago (Black). I was not on any waiting list. I walked into the dealer and fell in love with the one in the showroom. I still haven't seen another one on the road. Just wanted to say Hello! I am definitely enjoying the car. Viv RX-8 Zoomster 08-29-2003, 10:44 PM Originally posted by ViviMiamiRX8luv Hi RX 8 Owners, I live in S. Enjoy your new ride. :D Hopefully there will be a day in the near future when we all can organize a gathering and/or an event where we can meet one another and swap RX-8 "war stories". lamigre 08-31-2003, 06:45 PM Include me too, as I live in Miami. My schedule can be a little rough because of my job. I will try to adapt for any type of RX-* meeting. I go to school in Winter Park (Orlando) and would love to meet up with everyone... Vampyr 01-09-2004, 10:45 AM Dunno I'd be interested too. A nice Miami to Orlando run and back would be fun on a weekend. Just make sure the guys in the front and back have good radar detectors! tommy12g 01-09-2004, 12:10 PM Count me in if you guys do it!!! Genom 01-09-2004, 04:42 PM We had been waiting for Zoomster to come back from the gulf, but he sorta disapeared. But if you all are up for it, lets plan something out. Vampyr 01-09-2004, 05:15 PM We could meet up at the Turnpike service station up in North Broward if you want. Cruise the Turnpike to Orlando (stopping for gas, LOL), meet up with Orlando guys, come back down, and then the Orlando guys could go back up. If we do that we'd need a pretty early start so the Orlando guys could still get back home at a decent time. Maybe like 8am or something. Or something like that. The only question is would Turnpike or I-95 be better? Either is fine with me but just in case anyone is finicky about Toll costs... noahprtlnd 01-09-2004, 06:10 PM This sounds like a great idea - I have a friend in West Palm I could visit too that way. Such as when and exactly where? Not to mention what we plan on doing, etc? Noah, do you go to Rollins? I'm at UCF but know a few ppl who go/went there... I find this possible trip convenient as well because I'll need to get something from W. Palm... noahprtlnd 01-10-2004, 09:37 PM Strongbad, yeah I go to Rollins. Im a senior there - what year are you at UCF? Where are you from originally? I guess I'll take the lead on this thing, since nobody else is;) With school starting for me this week, my schedule the next few months is kind of up in the air. Some time in the next week or so I'll throw out some possible dates and plans, and you all can respond. strong bad 01-10-2004, 10:17 PM I'm a Junior at UCF studying Electrical Engineering...and I'm originally from s. fl - miami dade and broward counties... As far as organizing this thing goes...I guess it might be helpful to find out which area has more drivers. That might determine whether we drive down or they drive up. Basically, what we discussed earlier in this thread. I'm only throwing this out because I was thinking of possible things to do here in Central Florida. Other than just grabbing a bite...all I can come up with is Disney/Universal. What do you guys thing about Universal Islands of Adventure? noahprtlnd 01-11-2004, 03:42 AM Originally posted by strong bad What do you guys thing about Universal Islands of Adventure?
