There is no such thing as an OEM CF hood.

It is aluminium.

i guess that's why no one shows the weight. I figured the stock hood didn't weight that much.

I'd have to agree with the idea that having mismatched body panels for the CF thing doenst impress me that much. Not hating on it, but it's just not for me. I too thought the whole point of CF was to have the strength of steel but the weight of plastic, hence considerable weight savings, I dont know how much a CF hood costs but damn paying hundreds and hundreds of dollars for 3-4lbs of weight savings? Mismatched panels indeed -- god forbid we bring the ricer kids with unpainted bumpers and side skirts up.

carry half bottle/tank of wash fluid/fuel would make it lighter..... and its FREE!

some people like it, some don't. sure it doesn't safe much weight on the 8 but do most people really get cf hoods to save weight?... i didn't think so.-most other cars i see with cf hoods have kits and all that, so its not about saving weight.

CF is just barely lighter than aluminum. The only time I like the black CF is when it's on a silver car. And that dude who got the CF hood and painted the entire top of the car black along with it. That was sharp. But for those kids who have the civics, or older cars, do save weight when they go CF. But it wouldn't make much of a difference on a RX-8.

My suggegstion, take the hood off entirely and get screw downs for the plastic engine cover. The hood isn't structural on this car anyways. ...lol

yeah. i understand the connection but CF has a purpose.

now adays whether you like it or not people not only use it to shave weight off their car, they use it for looks. I could care less if my car weighed 4 pounds less. I drive my car twice a week, and to be honest with you I think it looks f#ckin badass. Blame the ricer honda boys with mixmatched unpainted primered body kits that kill it.

It does look like you are trying to get a CF hood made by Mazda (OEM) when in reality you just wanted to know what one would weigh that had the same dimensions of an OEM hood. And like I said earlier, the weight, I was told once, between a aluminum hood and a CF hood is negligable in difference. Meaning that the only purpose for a CF hood on an RX-8 is for aesthetic value and does not do much to reduce weight.

Thanks. I thought I saw somewhere that the wait of the original hood was 25 pounds. I went back and looked again and it's actually 15. :doh: I didn't figure it was so lite.

Yeah it's pretty light. I wonder if they are counting in the insulative material on the bottom of the hood though? But that material wouldn't make a 10 pound difference I don't think.

For what its worth I understood your question from the start. There are a couple guys here on the forums with the hood you are looking for as you can see but if you plan on painting it, it isnt worth the money spent. I like that you wanted to stay with the oem look though. Our stock hoods kick ass

red+cf = kick ass
silver +cf = kick ass
white + cf = sorta kick ass

all other colors will look lame and useless.

I guess it boils down to colour matching and some decals decor which is the way to go if you want the 2F2F looks = mean & fierce. Anotherwise keep it stock with minor changes if you like classic sport looks.
