Will be moving from the UK to Waterloo Ontario in July.

Thinking about shipping my RX-8 over.. has anyone else brought one into the country this way and did you have any problems?

Your 8 is right side driver so i'm sure that will be an issue. Also you'll probably need day time running lights and possibly a different bumper which will take hits up to 15 km/h .

I guess your going to waterloo for university?

 

The car need to by i think 10 to 15 years old for you to be able to imported into canada. That just the law but even if its right side driver it is okay Ex skyline.

 

It depends how long you are bringing it in for, and why.

Basically, unless the car is 15 years old (to the month), you can't just import it into Canada and keep it here forever.
If you are coming over on a student Visa, some work Visa's etc. and the car will be here for a limited period of time you can get approval to bring it in for that time period.

Also, it will be pretty much impossible for you to sell it to anbody else until it's 15th birthday. So, you would likely be better off to sell it in the UK, and buy another one once you got here. Especially given the exchange rates.

The RIV program is pretty strict, so you'd be best of to read into it in detail.

Canada actually has some of the stricter laws around. They can't even sell Mitsubishi Evo's in Canada because they don't pass the front bumper laws with the Intercooler.

Still need to confirm this but it seems if I come over on a work permit (which I will be doing) then I can bring my vehicle with me and apart from shipping there'll be no additional costs, taxes, etc.

Update...

Going to sell it in the UK and buy one new when I get out there.

When do the 07 models become available?

 

The 2007 models aren't likely to be around for a few more months, at the very least - the 2006 RX-8s are on the lots now.
