Hey guys i just want to know what you think about this body kit, Since my car is being converted to 20b i need more air for the intercooler, so we are making a custom body kit that will work for both cars, my and the regular custom. what you guys think this is a photoshop pic of how my car will look.

I don't like the 'nostrils'

Perhaps on your car they'd serve a purpose but they are really hideous.. otherwise, even though I'm not a fan of kits, it looks not bad.

same here, how about the side skirts and the back?

Nose nostrils serve a purpuse in my car air for the turbo, and in a stock car if you look at it the air will go straight to the air box, with a kit we are goin to make. I dont like body kits either , but i have to bring air in someway. The side skirt we are working on it i'll post more pic later on today, I'm not to go with photoshop so i have a guy doing it for me.

Remember the more air you bring in, to the air box the more power you will make

I like the nostrils... adds a nice little flair to it. Though it is lacking something in the body (side skirts and rear valence)

Well if anyone is good with photo shop put some side skirt on. I dont want to pay for the custom job, untill most people are happy.

Man a perfectly good Mazdaspeed front kit ruined. Not a fan of Nostrils, what about make the nostrils join into one slit? (like a "uni-nose") I'm not sure if I am making my self clear.

the nostrils have to go... make it look aggresive, kind of like veilside.
I was just wondering, you should take out the air breath from the rx-7 and put in the side of the back tire. kind of like the nsx, and supra.

*sigh* it's never that simple, and there are better ways to do that than just put as many big-ass holes in the front of the car as possible; remember how you laughed at Homer when he put "speed-holes" in his car with a pick-axe??

anyways, the enormous ducts you have there would more than easily provide the car with enough air for anything: is your I/C really going to be that big?? 'cause the most efficient way to route air into a radiating unit is to slightly diffuse it, using proper sealed ducting. so, if you have an I/C unit with 3.5sqft of area, you only need a duct with 3sqft of area (using ducts to "stretch" that air), giving benefits on the cooling side (in a few ways), as well as saving you drag.

after that, ducting to a sealed airbox for your big-ass filters (on an engine like this, that's an entirely necessary thing), just pull air up from infront of one of those very oversized (unnecessarily so) oil cooler ducts (which should also encorporate the velocity reducing ducting).
you really really don't need those "nostrils", or holes that big.

Ok then lets do this, you guys design the car. And we will vote the nicest and most effective one. the person that makes the nicest one, we will name the body kit after you and display your name as the designer in the sema show. So let me see what you guys come up with. Remember i need air goin to the intercooler and the Turbo

cool. gimme specs on the size of the I/C, and are you looking for a high-DF setup, a low drag setup, or just an all-style setup??

... i'll leave wheels to you, but i'll sketch something up today...

Ooo, a single rotary shaped inlet. That's kinda cool.

What I like about the kit are the larger front vents. Much more muscular looking. While I like the look of the stock vehicle very much, the vents look a little 'pinched' in their design. But like others, I'm not crazy about the 'nostrils'. Lots of folks already poke at it's "angry guppy" appearance, adding nostrils kinds of exaggerates it.

hehe, well i can also run the Nistrous Purge kit through the nostrils. Air brush a fire breathing dragon, so when i purge, it looks like the dragon flames,,,hehe p.s. I want something that looks good, and brings air to the intercooler and the turbo. I really like the new drawing with the single rotary inlet

try to bring down the rotary inlet. so is not so far up by the hood. Remeber also my turbo is in the other side

I really dont like that big hole, like that. Makes the car look like a honda

How about having those Rotor shape holes right on the hood ? Would that serve your purpose.

You know kinda like this car ......... :D

here is another one with a smaller gap I actually kinda like it.

Maybe the gap could be a lil bit bigger but not much if you want to keep a sleak look.

you know I was thinking the same thing because of the horizontal grates in the grill. Which are a nice touch by the way. Though I suppose it looks more like someone turned a Vanquish grill upside down, since the extra vent is underneath the main grill.

The single inlet is sleek. But could be a bit smaller.

check out the Pan Speed front......similar to Mazda Speed but with larger center opening and more aggressive lower lip.

...trust me when i say NOTHING needs a larger main duct than what the MazdaSpeed has... even that is uneccessarily large.

i will speak to my friend he is a car designer at the art academy in frisco.. and will post something by tommorw i hope or saturday...also maybe instead of the rotor inlet on the side have it in the middle... i would then, since this is some what a show car have different led lights on the inside...so when the car is cold have a blue led light when it warms up have the led lighting transfer from blue to red...so when the car ready to go the rotor inlet with glow red...might look nice but wont be a street legal application. or you could just make the front bottom inlets both connect into the engine bay with like air duct piping from homedepot...thats what i used on my mazda mx6 turbo when i made a home made cold air intake...

the one rx8ed made is pretty clean...but i would leave the mazdaspeed kit alone..imo..

I'm going to have to agree with Wakeech on this one (I usually do anyways! :) ). You only need so much air. I have to ask one question to everyone who thinks a really huge duct is neccessary. Where have you taken into account the fact that all of that air that enters the engine bay has to leave too? You honestly don't expect that much air to travel out the transmission tunnel do you? I haven't seen a single vent that lets air out. How about a redesigned hood that has tasteful vents. Take some hints from Ferrari for ideas. They do it properly unlike so many of those ugly Japanese aftermarket hoods. The car needs to cool down well and this is understood but remember that the larger the front vents are, the less aerodynamic the car is unless accounted for. Poor aerodynamics rob power and slow you down. There is a ton of room in the nose of that car. Has anyone thought about laying the radiator down a little more or moving it forward and then modifying the duct work? You could theoretically lay it completely down horizontally and still have it cool well if the ducting were done properly. Instead of modifying a body kit, modify the car itslef. This car is so wonderfully custom that it is only appropriate that the rest of the car be redone to compliment it. You could even use an existing body kit and modify the car behind the scenes. Can you say sleeper?!

What kind of graphite wheels are those? They look HOT! And my vote goes to X-R8ed...that ones looks the cleanest of the ones shown.

Did you pay for the 20 swap? If so how much would you say it would cost in total concidering all the work involved. not including the cost of the 20b. Just labor cost.

ACOSTARACING
08-29-2003, 10:39 AM
Well parts and the engine are the most expensive, Labor was just 10,000

here is a way to get rid of that excess heat under the hood. I had to use a pic with a different kit because of the angle and Sorry the chop isnt clean but I was only half way through and got tired so here ya go

http://www.imagestation.com/picture/sraid77/p9fec7548fc3a8f8193ec0f2a22ffabdd/fb3d3708.jpg

Just elongate the indentation of the oem hood and slice it to make vents like the ones on the Type S hood for the FD.
