Well not what everyone wanted to hear and not necessarily the most important thing but it is a fact that the new skyline aka GT-R will in fact be sold under the Nissan badge and not Infinity called a GT-R. See Press release.

Since the unveiling of the GT-R PROTO at last October's Tokyo Motor Show, Nissan has continued development of the legendary GT-R sports coupe. And while details about the next generation GT-R have been few, one important piece of information was made public today.

Mr. Carlos Ghosn, President and CEO of Nissan Motor Co., Ltd., kicked-off the New York International Auto Show with the exciting revelation that the GT-R will be sold in the U.S. as the Nissan GT-R.

As part of his keynote address at the International Motor Press Association Breakfast, Mr. Ghosn said that when he unveiled the GT-R PROTO, Nissan had not yet decided whether the GT-R would be sold as a Nissan or an Infiniti in the United States.

Mr. Ghosn also expressed enthusiasm that the heart-pounding GT-R will build on drivers' passion for the Nissan brand.

Now all we need is the press release of the specs.

i hope this means it wont cost 70k like most mags have been speculating if its under infiniti. 50-60 sounds a lot more affordable

i wonder if they are still keeping the non-type r skyline with inifiniti. This move doesnt really make a whole lot of sense to me.

Me too. After a certain point it doesn't matter what it's priced at. I won't be able to afford it any easier than I could afford an Enzo.

i actually appreicate that nissan badges it as a Nissan instead of infinity. because Skyline GTR is a legend of nissan not infinity. so yeah.
but whatever i won't be able to afford it. it has already surpassed that point.

Good for Nissan, should help with their brand awareness for sure. Kinda like the Corvette for Chevy.

For how much it will cost, I question who many will choose the GTR instead of the Z06.

I'm 26, I think in my relative age demographic a very large portion would opt for the GTR. But for the older demographic, where there is more money and the ability to more readily afford these cars, I'm guessing the Z06 wins out.

What we really want to hear is that it is fast but heavy. That way we can still take it in the twisties.

Also, I haven't seen any confirmed pics of the model, but I'm sure it looks strikingly similar to the RX8. :evil_laug

This is why we need a new RX-7. A GTR/Supra killer.

A ~2700-2800lb RX-7 with 350hp should get the job done. (sigh)...we can dream can't we?

Man, I HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE those black pieces of bodywork under the headlights. I think they look incredibly stupid and cheap. Bleh. I might be young, but I'd take a Z06 any day.

Who would buy that for 60k when a new Z06 will be lighter, faster, and still be only NA. Now put a turbo on the new z06 to match that of a GT-R :ylsuper:

The ZO6 doesn't need any turbo......it's already got 505hp. I doubt the GT-R will have that kind of power when it's in production (except if they do that Japanese overstated hp thing that bit them in the ass last year). Maybe it's just because I am an American.......but I would never consider a Nissan GT-R over a Chevy ZO6.......it would never enter my mind......and I'm a Ford guy.

^ I was going to say basically the same thing in regards to power. The Z-06 already makes 500 hp and with basic bolt on's and some ecu retuning could get much higher. A little engine work such as a cam and you've got a 600+ hp beast. The GT-R would absolutely have to crank up the boost to keep up power wise.

I'm personally not an american car person but the Z-06 is something that GM actually got right. I do like the new GT-R so I'm not knocking it in any way.

An 8 with a refined version of the 20B NA'd. If I had that, I would take on a GTR or Supra. And pick up some goceries after I'm done.

That means 2 years from now we'll get the watered down version.....less edgy, less power, more 'corporate' than 'concept'. Design engineers are artists......application/production engineers are not. They can take the 'cool' out of anything the concept offered without ever realizing it. Add in the accountants and look out.

The new skyline is def. interesting, AWD + Twin turbo. I'd pick this over the new supra anyday. IMO new supra would suck, after a decade of boring cars, I dont think Toyota would get this right, they are already planning to share platform and engine on the new supra with future cars from lexus(IS 500??) I cant get over this, why share platform and engine?

And yes, if i have the money, i'd choose the Z06

the AWD system is rear wheel drive baised and it shares platform with the new 07 redesigned G35 sedan, and 08 G35 coupe... whats wrong with sharing platform? even ferrari shares platform with masseratis, it keeps production costs low...

Carlos Ghosn him self have said it many times that they are aiming for the performance and driving experience of European sports cars, mainly the next gen 911 turbo.
Its a coupe and got 4 seats that can be used as a daily driver, not exactly the same type of car as the Z06.

Yep, then add two pistons and increase the GTR's motoro to 7.0L and it would be fair.

Turbo LS7 vs Turbo 7.0L GTR?

My money's on the LS7. It has so much room for improvement. When it comes to big displacement power, my money's always on the Americans.

But the Vette doesn't need more power. From what I've read, it's downright scary with the power it has. http://www.lingenfelter.com/pack_cor_c6zo6.htm , but I guess some people think otherwise :) .

And to stay on topic, this new Skyline excites me not one bit. Not sure why, probably the price. And it's kind of ugly.

Tirminyl

How can you determine the room for improvement on an imaginary GTR 7.0L V8?

:icon5:

I was just saying that the LS7 has much room for improvement (output wise, the engineering is spot on). I have no idea how much room for improvement an imaginary GTR 7L would have, but given Nissan's recent history, I'd say not nearly as much. But this is all imaginary anyway. The car is getting a turbo 6, and will probably be pretty impressive, but given a choice, I'd take the Vette. Hell, I'd take a Cayman S instead (I'd probably kill myself in the Vette anyway :)). Something about a $70k Nissan turns me off.

Being how Cosworth is reworking the GTR's engine, I think it will be pretty damn stout. I am not making my decision as pricing isn't final but a Vette wouldn't even be on my list of choices but I am sure it would be on others and if it is, then there is no doubt they will get a Vette instead.

traditionally GT-Rs are no slouch.... theres 1500hp R34 GT-Rs rolling around... and stock internals can handle up to 1000whp ala the supra tt. I did a quick search, and was able to find a video of the 1200bhp top secret R33 (its a pretty old car), tunning potential is what the GT-R is all about
http://video.search.yahoo.com/video/view?&h=118&w=145&type=mpeg&rurl=forums.gtrforums.com%2Fshowthread.php%3Ft%3D1 01&vurl=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.gtrforums.com%2Fvideo%2FTopS ecretGT-R.mpeg&back=p%3D1500hp%2Bgt-r%26ei%3DUTF-8%26fr%3DFP-tab-web-t%26cv%3Dg%26x%3Dwrt&turl=re2.mm-so.yimg.com%2Fimage%2F1704869731&name=TopSecretGT-R.mpeg&no=5&tt=354&p=1500hp+gt-r&oid=76d0c8ad0eb5521c&size=12.2MB&dur=73
I dont think its a toy car either, its an expensive premium sports car that can be used as a daily driver. its sorta different from real impractical hardcore toy cars like elise, ferraris, etc. Id say its more like a M3 or 911, expensive but not outside of realm of middle class/upper middle class people.
