This is kinda old, but I didn't find it in a search. Then again I tend to half-ass things so who knows.

Anywho, GM is coming out with a self-driving car called the Opel Spectra. It uses lasers and cameras and junk like that to drive along at up to 60mph. http://www.engadget.com/2005/08/27/gm-will-launch-self-driving-car-in-2008

Also, the Toyota Prius come with an option in Japan and the UK that allow them to park themselves. It was just announced that the park-assist that option will be coming to the US. http://www.engadget.com/2006/04/05/toyotas-self-parking-car-coming-soon-to-us

First it was automatic transmissions that shift for you. Now it's self-parking, self-shifting, self-driving cars. Somewhere Ike is crying. :tear:

Actually, I'm young and I wouldn't mind self driving cars.

Within REASON...

I love driving, more so because of my RX8, but on very long road trips I wouldn't mind taking a break for an hour or so and let the car drive itself. Let's be honest here...unless you are speeding like a mad man, on long road trips (in FL especially) it's just a LONG LONG straight a way...there isn't much fun to be had other than top speed testing which I don't do on the street anymore anyway. I did it with my junk cars...and looking back, it was very stupid.

So...I wouldn't mind sitting back and playing on my laptop while the car drove me to a far away place.
