View Full Version : It Happened!
Genom 08-11-2003, 03:36 PM I'm driving down Alton road in South Beach a while ago after visiting a customer. Speed limit is 35 down the road. I was doing 33. Hear a whoop and a siren. Look behind me and I see a cop. Now I check again and yes, pegged at 33, no school zones, nothing. Have no idea why I am getting pulled over, and am a bit perplexed.
Cop gets out, walks over, looks in and says:
"Hey! Isnt this the new rotary engine car like the old RX-7? the RX-8?"
Yes officer
"How does she drive?"
AWESOME!
"Can I sit in it?"
SURE THING BUBBA!
From there I chatted with the guy for 5 minutes, and sent him on his envious way :D Think he's getting one too :D
wakeech 08-11-2003, 03:41 PM whaaaaa??? that's freakin' cool. :)
...why is it so many cops love the rotary??

mental pimp 08-11-2003, 05:15 PM hahaha, thats probalby the coolest thing that can happen:D
bassik277 08-11-2003, 05:40 PM I wonder what he would have done if you took off trying to get away from his ass.
Toadman 08-11-2003, 05:44 PM Unlawful Detainment! Call his watch commander, LMAO! :D
Genom 08-11-2003, 05:45 PM Probably assume I just stole a hot new ride and shot my ass!
Seriously, the guy was real nice and I loved the fact that it gave me something else to post on the boards. First I get rear-ended on my second time in the car (on the day I picked it up), then I get pulled over just to get chatted.
Talk about an exciting car! I think they need to quote these numbers too! :D
Prowla 08-11-2003, 06:30 PM Soon enough, you're going be wishing "Damnit, when can I have some alone time with my baby?" Sure as hell is a fun ride and I'd be enjoying all the attention. It's different from the 350Z big time. I'm not ranting or flaming anything against the 350Z, but I swear it looks like Mega Man in blue or any color for that matter. lol, I'm just being a nutter and saying it's like Marvel (RX-8) vs. Capcom (350Z)... It's a matter of preference.
Genom 08-11-2003, 06:41 PM He was actually a huge RX-7 fan. I didnt post the 5 minutes of hsitory he gave me about how he had a RX-7 years ago and loved the car. He apologized like 20 times for stopping me but said he just had to check it out. I was happy to talk about the car to someone else since all my friends hate me now, so I said no sweat and sped off :D
Quick_lude 08-11-2003, 06:58 PM Abusing his power but still a "cool" story.. Should have asked him for a "get out of a speeding ticket free" card.. :D
Genom 08-11-2003, 07:05 PM I figure he had to be a really huge fan to risk something like that since I could have gotten him into a lot of trouble for it.
mikeb 08-11-2003, 07:06 PM lets funny I was thinking a get out of speeding ticket would be good too
Prowla 08-11-2003, 07:43 PM I wish I would've gotten pulled over by that cop when I got both of my tickets two years ago.
Superfan 08-11-2003, 08:02 PM My best friend is a cop. He was on duty the day I picked up the car so I drove by so he could check out the car. He was about to sit in the car when I realized that he was going to scratch up my interior with his gun belt. So I made him take all his junk off before he could sit :D
Genom 08-11-2003, 08:20 PM Yeah, a lot of my LANparty buddies are cops. Hell, we hold the LANs at a cop "party" building. It's up in Hollywood, we get like 5 regular members who are cops, and about 10 of their buddies drop by to see all the games and... uh... "other" stuff. It's a blast. Some of the guys have some really nice rides, but I think I'm gonna be the one that talks the most this time :)
Toadman 08-11-2003, 08:21 PM He was about to sit in the car when I realized that he was going to scratch up my interior with his gun belt. So I made him take all his junk off before he could sit Sorry bud, no Batman utility belts on the leather, thank you very much. :D
Racer X-8 08-11-2003, 09:45 PM I was at my dealer's & not knowing, about to take my first test drive, when two policemen got to look under the hood. I think they quickly became real embarased when they couldn't find the engine. I said "yeah, 1.3 liter. Whoopie!" That made them turn around & leave...:D Ignorance is bliss.
midniteblue 08-11-2003, 11:09 PM hmmm, i would def. want the same thing happen to me but instead of a guy, i want a female officer to pull me over. "here you go officer, let me show you my stickshift...."
hahah totally kidding ;) anyways, awesome story..i totally thought you were gonna talk about how anal the cop would be and try to give you a bogus speeding ticket. glad you came out of that situation ticket-free :D

LOL...i'm playing this imaginary event in my head. Oh God...too funny :p
mystrx8 08-12-2003, 09:54 PM Cool story. I've been followed a total of four times by officers, repeatedly passing and then slowing down and following behind me checking out the car. One time, in fact, an officer followed me around the local interstate loop, then off the same exit, down a series of streets, and finally slowed behind another car until he saw where I parked at home, then accelerated away. I know that I would have been worried if it were not police officers that were following me! Oh, this has happened since my first date of ownership, 07/24/2003.
graphicguy 08-13-2003, 10:44 AM I was getting gas this past weekend. Pulling out of the gas station, I notive that a local "black and white" police car following me, very closely. I'd change lanes and he would change lanes. I'd speed up (within the speed limit, he'd speed up. First thing I thought was one of the tailights were out or the license plate stickers were not visible....something stupid that I was going to be pulled over for.
Anyway, it's about 3 miles from the gas station to home....cop following me the whole way. I finally pull into my driveway and he pulls in right behind me.
I get out of my RX8, he jumps out of his and says..."did I scare you?".
"...ummm, yes officer! Is there something wrong"
"No! Just wanted to check out the car".
We chat about it for about 5 minutes. Turns out he's a sports car fanatic and a former RX7 owner. He gets a call on his radio and says he must get back to work.
Nice way to introduce the RX8 to the local constables.
midniteblue 08-13-2003, 01:36 PM these last two stories about the cops actually following you guys home and even to the point of conversing on duty at your driveway is just plain scary. I mean its good that they like the car and are astonished by it (and who isnt) but i think its just plain freaky that they would do that.
The reason why it scares me is its one thing to be fascinated by the car but its another thing to have a person of authority actually follow you home and not knowing exactly what to expect. 'am i doing something wrong?' 'am i speeding?' 'are my tailights working proerly?' .....little things like that make you uncomfortable on the road. Also, just b/c they wear a badge doesnt mean they are saints. Cops are human just like everyone else and thus have desires. so who knows, they could have just scouted where you live for the time being....
graphicguy 08-13-2003, 01:56 PM I live in a quiet suburb of a larger city. We all tend to know all the police since there are very few of them (and very little need for more).
True, police are like everyone else and have the same curiosity.
Truth told, I'd be more irritated if a "civilian" that I don't know followed me home.
No need for alarm here.
TreknMazda 08-13-2003, 02:34 PM Okay, who's going to be first to post they had to get a restraining order against someone stalking their RX-8:confused: :D
graphicguy 08-13-2003, 02:54 PM ROTFLMAO!!!!!!!!!!
Toadman 08-14-2003, 02:03 PM Instead of following he should have pulled alongside, dropped his window and asked if he could see the car.

Well, I am a firefighter, and here, we work closely with police officers on a regular basis. In fact, there are several other police officers that live in my neighborhood (within less than 100 yards). I really don't find it much of a problem because I am around them very often.
graphicguy 08-15-2003, 07:26 AM Police are just "people". If they want to stop me and talk about my car, that's fine by me. Now, if I saw a fire truck follow me home, I might get a bit nervous ;-)
mystrx8 08-16-2003, 10:54 AM ROFL!!!!:D :D
