I am having an issue with my headlights-about 100 ft and there is a black line and then the lights no longer penetrate the darkness I thought the lights needed to focused. Can anybody provide any answers? thanks

Can anybody provide any answers? thanks Sounds like you have the HID headlights. The cutoff you're seeing is quite normal, though the lights should self-level so that the top of the beam is horizontal. Try shining your headlights against a wall, and slowly backing away from it. you should see the top of the beam stay right about the same height no matter how far you are from the wall. If the beam drops to the ground as you get further away from the wall, then you likely have some sort of problem with the self-levelling system, though an error like that should trigger a warning light on the dash. If they're working correctly, then the problem is you, not the car. Have you considered using high beam? ;) kittychester 08-11-2003, 05:18 PM Thanks for the advice. Are the HID lights the small gas filed ones that come with the grand touring package? I will try again- when we were driving in the city the lights were no problem. We live out in the country and the road was very hilly and dark. When the brights were on I had no problem. We (hubby and I) just had no experience with those types of lights before. wakeech 08-11-2003, 05:41 PM Originally posted by kittychester Are the HID lights the small gas filed ones that come with the grand touring package? ... you got it. they're so bright that the range and projection angle are stricltly limited to prevent permanent eye damage to other drivers at night. mikeb 08-11-2003, 05:49 PM I added a HID kit to my civic and my 8 has HID also. HID is a must for me. Once you have it on a car you will want it on all your cars BillK 08-12-2003, 03:56 AM Originally posted by wakeech ... you got it. they're so bright that the range and projection angle are stricltly limited to prevent permanent eye damage to other drivers at night. "Permanent" eye damange... LOL. :D Anyway, the sharp cutoffs are a characteristic of the projector lamp style lights used on the RX-8 (and S2000 for that matter.) Many other vehicles have a much less sharp cutoff for their HIDs, notably the Audi TT and Porsches. |
