View Full Version : Test drive and MAJOR bummer
Zaknel'il 03-29-2006, 02:38 AM Hey guys, Just joined a week or two ago, major 8 Fan- Actually did my first test drive in an 06 today. And no, the test drive was NOT a bummer. It was fricken SWEET. I am so pumped to get one of these cars.
My only problem (or so I thought) was whether I pay cash in like 4 months, or buy now and finance. I talked to my guy at the dealership, and he basically told me to buy now. Why? *No more 8's are being made for 06* They have already stopped making them! I thought it was just a rumor, but I got it from the sales manager at my dealer! Bunnygirl and everyone else that were able to custom order your 8's, you are VERY VERY LUCKY. I won't get to order mine now, and I'm really bummed out about it. So I just KNOW I will either get the options I want or the color I want. Major disappointment. I bought my saturn brand new at 16 and after 7 years, I'm ready flush that car- Done tons of research and THIS is the car I want. 350z looks like its stubbed its nose, s2000 is too spartan of an interior (except for the quality, the interior might as well have come from an $8k suzuki) and I don't WANT anything else. Sucky deal. =(
The one I test drove today was phantom blue- It is a great color, I was really suprised. In shadow it looks like a deep sea blue, in sunlight almost a dark green, really fantastic, very unique. I'm actually leaning more to this color- Was thinking tit grey or v-red, GT with red and black leather.
This is a major bummer to the people like me that wanted a custom 06. I might have the chance of getting one with everything I want, but its not likely. Again, props to the ones like bunny girl who were prepared and had the opportunity to design their 8.
-Zak
Krankor 03-29-2006, 05:06 AM Um, you could spend a LONG time here collecting the sundry lies spouted by sales fellows. I don't recall seeing anything around here about 8 production being stopped. I'm not prepared to flat-out call bullshit on the sales manager, but I wouldn't rule out that possibility just yet. I would seriously research this further if I were you.
sti_eric 03-29-2006, 06:16 AM ^^^Rule #1: Don't believe anything a salesperson tells you. Ever.
Did you specifically ask if you could order one? Did you try another dealer?
Either way, don't worry...the way RX-8s are selling, there will be plenty of them left on lots in 4 months even if they did stop production.
Chrisbert 03-29-2006, 07:18 AM That would be the reason I would use a different dealership, and report them to Mazda for misinforming the public.
Moostafa29 03-29-2006, 07:30 AM Problem #1 is that your put your faith in a salesman.
Problem #2 is that you're impatient (very much like myself). Just wait and put cash on it. They aren't going to stop making the 8, and its not like they are in short quantities.
Raptor75 03-29-2006, 07:51 AM How do you know when a salesman is lying.......... his lips are moving;-)
snizzle 03-29-2006, 08:18 AM Oh goodlord, these RX8 production stopped threads are going the way of mileage/ms8 threads.
Sounds like to me he wants to get rid of current '05 dealer stock.
rx8wannahave 03-29-2006, 08:19 AM Car salesman = evil
lol
StealthTL 03-29-2006, 08:33 AM ...he's got five on his lot, and you want him to order another?
"Err, sorry Son, they ain't making these no more - you gots to take one of this here five."

ZoomZoomH 03-29-2006, 09:03 AM why are people so gullible
car salespeople = some of most shady people on earth
saturn 03-29-2006, 09:13 AM I would have kicked him in the nuts. Why would Mazda tool up their 2006 factory line for the 8 (after the damn thing caught on fire) just so that they could make BunnyGirl and like 4 other people cars? I mean, they changed the entire transmission for the automatics and yet they're only going to produce them for like a week and a half?
Don't buy from that guy -- sounds like a douche.
RevTo9K 03-29-2006, 09:56 AM ...or turn it around on him. Go back and say that you'd be interested in talking about a specific car that he'd like to move, if he'll make it worth your while price-wise. They can hold a car for a while on the lot before they have to go and get financing for it - if he can move it before that happens, it saves him interest. The sales manager is the one who would know which cars are in his best interest to move. Sometimes multiple cars on the lot fit that description; ask him to give you his best price on a couple. When I bought my STI a couple weeks ago, they had seven cars on the lot and they were like 'pick one!'. They needed to move cars. I didn't get the homelink autodim mirror I wanted, but I got the short-shift. It was a compromise I was willing to make to get the car right away, at invoice rather than at sticker.
The downside to this is that you don't get to buy the exact set of options you wanted, in the exact color, etc. The upside is that you can save alot of money.
Also, if you're in a position to pay for the car in full in four months, you won't pay too much in interest if you finance it now and pay off the loan in four months. If you're willing to buy off the lot, and willing to let the dealer do the financing, sometimes you can get a very good deal.

BunnyGirl 03-29-2006, 12:37 PM just so that they could make BunnyGirl and like 4 other people cars?
Well, I am special. LOL
NgoRX8 03-29-2006, 12:51 PM Yea, unless there is news about the 8 stopping production on here.. it ain't true coming from a dealer's mouth.
our forum has much better information than a dealership.
BunnyGirl 03-29-2006, 01:13 PM That's true. My dealership agrees with that also. They were saying that generally if somebody is interested in a car and does their research on it, they generally know more about them than the salespeople because they have to learn so much about other vehicles that they don't learn as much on particular vehicles beyond the basics.
bascho 03-29-2006, 01:22 PM I have to tell you guys.....if the RX8 only sells 15K cars a year......the assy plant can build that many cars in just over a month. Remember, Mazda uses that plant for Mazda 3 and the new CX-7 also. It is possible (not probable) that Mazda has already run all of the 2006 RX8's they projected to sell and are now making Mazda 3's and CX-7's only. It doesn't mean that there won't be a 2007......but I would not be suprised.
saturn 03-29-2006, 01:55 PM They sold twice that many in 2004 in North America alone (you can't really go by 2005 yet because they're still being sold). Is this plant dedicated solely on building for North America? If not they'd have to be holding off building of every car they make for every country in the world just to maybe build enough 8's for NA only. Why would they want to do this? It doesn't seem to have any benefits for anyone.

Believe me, the auto companies count sales during the calendar year (Jan 1, 2005 - Dec 31, 2005)....that is how they project future demand. Auto companies don't like to build more cars then they can sell......that is wasteful and dangerous (ask Chrysler). It is possible that dealers will continue selling 2005 RX8's into the summer of 2006......how long are you going to wait to count them??? The sales # I read for 2005 was just over 14K 2005's sold in calendar year 2005 in the USA. I am not sure what sales are world-wide......let's guess at 35K. An assy plant in the US can build more than 15K cars per month. I assume that assy plants in Japan are at least that efficient. That means Mazda can build the entire 2006 production of RX8's in just over 2 months. Well, here we are 2 days from April 1, 2006......that's how many months of production for the 2006 RX8? I am not saying the Mazda builds all of their production in 2 months for the RX8.....I was just stating that they could. By the way, it is entirely possible they run all of the LHD production and then switch the line and run all the RHD production......so in a sense, they very well could build all the vehicles for a certain market and then switch to another market. That could be some of the reason that the first 2006 RX8's didn't hit the US until March. Have 2006's been available in other parts of the world at an earlier date?

Sure, anything possible. I still doubt it and even further doubt that you can't get exactly the options you want even at the end of this year (except the Shinka edition ones).
The 2006's were available in other parts of the world well before in the US (from what I've read). Also, the fact that you keep saying "assy" instead of "assembly" is really funny. Haha, I thought you were using some adjective form of "ass". What an assy thing for me to think.

Personally, I don't think the RX8 has that many options. A lot of the content is bundled into 'packages'. Sorry about using 'assy' for assembly.....sometimes I forget that not everyone works in the auto industry.

Also, if you want the Mazda financing rebate, the dealer told me you have to make 3 payments before you pay the loan off. When I bought mine in the 3rd week of Feb or so, it was like a 1200 dollar rebate. So I'll make payments for 2 months and then pay it off with the 3rd payment. Figure its worth a hundred bucks in interest to get the 1200 rebate. Not sure if this still in effect or not...
Racer X-8 03-29-2006, 02:38 PM I would have kicked him in the nuts... This has my vote. Kick the salesman in the nuts! (He IS a guy, right? Sales girls have balls, but no nuts...)

Yeah, it won't work if it's a chick. I know this because in Mortal Kombat II if you did Johnny Cage's split punch it wouldn't do anything against the girl fighters like Jade or Kitana.
Racer X-8 03-29-2006, 03:05 PM Yeah, like that movie commercial on lately, where she is impersonating a guy, she gets hit in the crotch and doesn't respond to it much and everybody's like, looking at her wierd, then she "gets it" and goes "Oh! For the love of God!! OUCH!..."
heheh
prescriptionmazda 03-29-2006, 04:43 PM Yeah, it won't work if it's a chick. I know this because in Mortal Kombat II if you did Johnny Cage's split punch it wouldn't do anything against the girl fighters like Jade or Kitana.
lol, I love real life information based on testing in a video game!
daisuke 03-29-2006, 05:09 PM try punching or kicking a girl in the crotch, they'll rip YOUR nuts off
born2drive 03-29-2006, 08:42 PM He wants you to buy the car NOW because he wants his commission NOW. He's afraid if you wait, you'll buy the car from another salesperson or dealer.
You should wait and pay cash. You'll get a better deal and also have more time to find exactly what YOU want. Never believe what a car salesman tells you.
Renesis_8 03-29-2006, 08:45 PM If you pay cash, they earn less, dealerships hate to see ppl pay cash. When you finance it, they also get interest rate.

brings back fond memories...
therm8 03-29-2006, 09:20 PM Production actually stopped in June of 2003. Sales have just been so poor that they've been unloading leftover '04s for 2 years now. :)

Actually, the one I drove, someone got out of it right before me, and someone got in right after me- and they have been out of 05's for quite some time... =)
I don't think this guy will lie to me, as he is a business associate for an e-commerce project we are working on. I will take your guy's advice though and check around other dealerships- I appreciate the feedback, makes me feel a lot better.
Lets just say i hope you are all right, because I do want to wait a few months and not have to feel rushed.

Don't worry, you'll be able to find one but then again you'll have an 8less summer. Also, only buy the car outright if it's a drop in the bucket. It's better financially to make payments and do something smarter with the cash. Like buy a house or invest it.

This is true. My sales rep tried to tell me:"Get it tonight cuz tomorrow a different manager will be here and you might not get financed." I told him to kiss my ass! :bootyshak and I'll be by tomorrow with my Girl to see what she thinks.
Ericok 03-30-2006, 01:37 PM Also, if you want the Mazda financing rebate, the dealer told me you have to make 3 payments before you pay the loan off. ...
That's absolutely NOT true. You can pay it off on the FIRST payment. Impossible to revoke your rebate because you already got it when when you signed for the car. If you wait for three payments, you've actually given most of the rebate back to Mazda via interest.

That was true for MK I as well ! :D:
dmc27 03-30-2006, 04:33 PM finance now to get the rebates, then burn em in 4mos & pay it off. $1500 in rebates when I bought mine a few weeks ago. ('05 though)
DEFINITELY pit at least 2 dealers against each other, you'll get the best price & the added bonus of telling one or more sleazy MF's where to stick their "not making anymore" BS. right up their assy
saturn 03-30-2006, 05:25 PM That was true for MK I as well ! :D:
Yeah. Come to think of it, that's where I learned that move to. Down+C. I never used Johnny Cage cause he sucked. I was always Lui Kang. Remember the blood code? Down-Up-Left-Left-A-Right-Down = DULLARD!
MORTAL KOMBAT!
That is all.
DARKMAZ8 03-30-2006, 05:56 PM lui kang is cheap...scorpion rules!!!!

swerver 03-30-2006, 08:17 PM sorry, but I had to add another sleezy salesman comment (and yes, this came from the Sales Manager)....
I had already agreed to a deal in principal. Showed up and laid down my VISA platinum for a very substantial down payment (I wanted the frequent flyer miles.....sue me....:))) Sales Manager told me he couldn't accept a VISA payment for a car cause he couldn't be sure he would receive the funds. He starts with "well, you know how hard it is to deal with credit card companies"
I didn't hear the rest of his speech as he was staring at my ass walking out the front door while he continued to pontificate........:))

I appreciate the advice, but I won't need to do that =). My company will contact all the dealers in the area and negotiate the price for me... Then they will call me and say heres your car, want it? Actually, an associate of mine just got a 2006 mx5 GT and got it for about 500 above dealer invoice. Didn't even test drive it first, just signed the papers and drove it afterwards. They will do all the paperwork, and all I have to do is walk in and sign... Whats always hallarious is how the sales rep always has a 'that was YOU?!?' look on his face when you come in. :mdrmed:
brattesani 03-31-2006, 01:22 AM i heard there was a fire in japan and it damaged the factory where some of the rx8 parts come from and they put all 06's on hold till they can fix the factory.
