Same question: which one at Faulkner?

Who was your sales rep? Did they try to sell you any extra junk? Did you finance through them as well? How long did the entire process take?

Sorry for all the questions, but I just want to prepare myself for when mine comes in.

Thx! ;)

We can only hope. I sold the Eclipse in my sig on ebay and I'm driving a crappy loaner until it comes in. It won't be a minute too soon.

Horde, I chose the winning blue mettalic. The sales rep Max tried to sell me all kinds of extras, window etching, extended warrenty... The whole process took about an hour and a half. I did do the financing through them as well. As part of the deal I had to trade in my 94 RX-7, it broke my heart, but I have to say I haven't really thought about her too much, now that I have the 8.

OmegaBob

When it's my time to go to the dealer, they'd had better not try to sell ANYTHING to me -esp after this hp fiasco.

After complaining, and if they still try, I'll tell them that a window etching kit can be purchased for under $20 and as for the ext warranty... well. I don't plan on owning the car for longer than three - four years.

Hey guys, I am in Glenside and have a blue 8. Maybe after everyone takes delivery we can get together for a little meet or something. Hopefully I get to the 7 meet going on this weekend (organized over at the Rx7forum). Hope to meet some fellow owners and rotary enthusiasts.

RXGR8, My wife works in Cherry Hill and has the car over there everyday (I drive in the city a lot--so I'll keep the Suby). Her work is off of Haddonfield Rd. Anyway, yeah lets see if some local 8 owners want to get together somewhere. I know I would like that. Either just an 8 thing or any rotary. Anyone, Anyone?

I got my 8 in August, I actually got it in MD where I'm orginally from but I live in Blue Bell. I'm the guy with the titanium gray with MD tags rolling around PA.

Last week I saw FOUR 8s in the course of two days:

1 - As I was driving to work in the morning, I saw a bright blue car in my rear view mirror on the entrance ramp. Wasn't sure if it was an 8 and I noticed that the car was stuck behind some trucks. So I went in the slow lane and set my cruise control to 56 (to test the CC -was my first time using it in ANY car). My exit was the very next one up and I still saw no sign of the blue car. then suddenly in the fast lane of 476, I saw it - it was an 8! I turned off the CC and speed up a bit hoping to wave at the driver. But... Nooo! The driver just speed by me -BASTARD! Though I wasn't able to see the driver, I did notice that the dealer stickers were still in the window.

2 - Leaving work the same day, while at an intersection 5 min away from work, a silver 8 drove past.

3 - A going to the KOP mall, saw another silver 8 in the opposite side waiting to turn. Looked like an older guy (in his late 40's - 50s?) was driving. He did not acknowledge my wave.

4 - At the KOP movie theater, I parked far away from the riff-raft. After the movie, as I walked back to my car, there was a titanium gray 8 parked amongst the other cars! It was an MT with cloth seats. Can't believe the driver parked next to other cars...

I wish those damn stickers and/or license plate frames become available so that I can at least identify my fellow forum members.... :(

Good Lord Bob, I've only seen one 8 on the road, and I was driving my dad's mercedes at the time so I couldn't wave and be recognized. It wasa bloody annoying.

You are obviously going to all the right places to be SEEN.

Eventually someone's got to wave back right ;)

Heh! If was freaky seeing so many in just two days. The funny things is that the week before I was bragging at work as to how I don't see any on the road. Serves me right.... lol

The only other one I've seen was when I was on the Blvd and drove past Faulkner. It was a red one loaded with people on an obvious test drive.

sounds like you've got the same problem I have- you wave, and they ignore you/look at you like you've got an alien growing out of your head. I don't get it. You're in a unique car, wouldn't you wave, or at least nod, if you saw another one with someone waving at you in it?

MikeDemo

Weirded thing ever, I was just driving now 76 into Philly and right after I pass the interchange at 476 I look in my review and couldn't believe it, i had to look twice. Saw my exact RX-8 right behind me. Same color (tit gray) with the rear spoiler. He was following me till we got to the Route 1 interchange then got up along side me. We both smile and noded at each other then I sped away. The only difference I noticed was he had the red/black leather and I have black/black. 2 8's that look identical driving down 76.... weird!

You would think so wouldn't you?

I have two cars besides the 8: a 1972 mercedes and a 1967 Alfa. Whenever I see one of the mercs waves certainly happen, but when I see another Alfa . . . of any year or type all heck breaks loose with waving and light flashing and sometimes discussions about how the car runs and work that's been done and all that jazz.

The thing with buying a new car that's special, is that there are definitely some die hard car lovers like the lot on this forum, and then there are some people who just want a car to get from A to B and wanted something in that color. They probably don't even know what a rotary engine is.

I'm glad that I haven't run across another 8 yet if they aren't going to wave back. I feel Bob's disappointment because I would be very disappointed.

Elara
10-23-2003, 05:24 PM
The same thing happens when I drive my mom's SHO as well- SHO owners are very friendly, and usually nod/wave, or chat at stoplights. But the 8 seems to attract some unfriendly people.

Haze
10-23-2003, 08:27 PM
Well, I hope that unfriendly is a bit of an overstatement. I think that it's just people who aren't used to driving anything special. When I drove my Nissan, I never tried to wave at other Nissans. The other drivers wouldn't have understood that I was just expressing a brotherhood of Maxima owners. Most people don't care what they are driving, so I think that they are oblivious, at least that's how I see it.

I am sure I have been seen around... I have had mine since 2nd week July. I saw 0 on the roads for approx 4 months until last weekend at the Montgomeryville Mall I saw a yellow and then black in a 15 minute time span! Crazy. I also live around Blue Bell area...

Haze
12-19-2003, 09:51 AM
Well alright, another Philadelphia 8 heard from. Great! My brother lives in Blue Bell so if you see a yellow 8 running around there then it might be me, however, it was not me at the Montgomeryville mall. I've never been there. Anyway, I will keep an eye out for a silver, and I still have yet to see an 8 in this area. I have seen two down in Maryland now, but not one up here. It's very frustrating. All the best - Haze

Anyone live through the 'winking' of the Ist Gen 7 headlights? It was kind of fun for the first few months but frankly it got old after awhile... Still no excuse not to acknowledge a car that for now is somewhat of a rarity (at least in NE PA) and certainly unique. When I get mine, I will smile, nod maybe even wave but don't feel bad if I miss you... Enjoy everyone.

Congrats on the new car!!!!! I drove mine over two hundred miles on the first day that I owned it. It's the kind of car that calls to you. :)

The possible meet thread is right around here started by Irish. It's called "Tri-state Philly area meet" or some siuch thing. All meet stuff should be put into that thread.

Great to hear from new Philadelphia area RXer's!

Senseny is a local RX 8 owner, and I know that he has an FD as well. He's also a really nice guy.

Irish is organizing another meet, and local club for us 8er's, but I don't think that I am overstating things when I say, it would be great to have you at the next meet with or without an 8. FD's are very cool cars as well!

Thanks for posting, and check out the Tri-State club thread. (you can also click on the "Tri-state club" icon above in Irish's posts that will take you to the web page for the local chapter that he is starting. It's a great source for info of local stuff that we are doing.) I think that we are currently leaning towards a March meet, so keep your ears open for that, and nice to have you on board. (also always feel free to PM me if you want to know when things are going on.)

Haze is right, I am a very nice guy, JK. Actually Haze is right about fellow FDers (rotaries in general) being invited to 8 meets and being more than welcome. Irish in an rx8(Wayne) doesn't mind (I don't think--hell, some really cool BMW guys came to the last meet) and I know I don't, but Irish is the boss so check with him. Hope to meet you in March.

Hey fellas, great to see a bump in the Philly Thread. I think fello RX-7 owners would be great addition at the next meet. Perhaps Travis you might want to mention it to the folk on the other forum. I'll admit the 'shame' - I've yet to see an actual RX-7 engine, so we should do that Guinness soon Senseny! Let smake your neighbors complain alittle more j/k ( I rem you saying something like that at the last meet)

Dag, I think we should be meeting in March, venue has not been decided on yet. Send me an email, I'll be more than happy to include you on the mailing list! Would love to see your rims you have listed!

Senseny, what about that park next to Arcadia. Think that will be a good meet spot? - its been a few years since I've been there!

I think you may be referring to Curtis Arborateum. That would be a great spot for a meet. The lower parking lot would really be cool. You can check out the 7's engine bay anytime you are in the area. Let me know and we can take it out for a spin.

I think so Haze, it sounds decent enough, then perhaps at the next meet we could do something close to you, so each owner doesnt have to drive a heck of a distance. I'll get the directions together in the next few weeks. We could do a tour of 'Glenside Pub' - good Guinness there and I think the bar next door has a happy hour with free wings, fries etc

Thanks Haze, I'll definitely keep your words to heart. I figure if they can turn S plan people away, they really don't care to get sales. Your story proves it. I am going to make a separate thread requesting recommendations on where to get your 8 serviced. I am moving to South Jersey March-April timeframe (just waiting to get a move in date). When my Honda Accord was new, I used to go to this place in Edison that specialized in Honda's (the owner came from Open Road Honda) and they were pricey but great. I send everyone with Honda issues to them and they all rave. I would like to find the same for my 8.

Hi Guys!
Any room in the club for a GIRL? I just paypal-ed my donation, and I'm looking foward to meeting some of you some time.
I'm out in Chester County, and I've had my black '04 for about a month now. Love it to death!!! I drove a Vtec Prelude a few years ago, and boy, this RX8 could out handle that bear any day!
Unfortunately it's now in the shop for some body work. A stupid ^&*%$ idiot of a driver smacked into my front side panel in a tearing rush to get out of a parking lot. It's back at the dealer for now.
I bought it down at Martin in Newark DE. Seems that they have plenty on the lot. I was talking to another dealer up here near where I work - it's on Rt 309 in the North Wales area, but I don't remember the name. They had a few, and were the easiest to deal with as far as Internet quotes and the like. Brandywine was pretty uncooperative, and so I never bothered to actually visit their showroom.
I am looking for some tips as far as good service experiences, as I would prefer to use someone out here rather than down in DE. Has anyone had any experience with Brandywine's servie dept?

Hi Susan (affenage) - welcome to the club - we hope to see you at our next meet! Our last was just Sunday past - and it turned out to be a great day. Check out the site or one of the earlier threads

From word of mouth, one of the better Mazda Dealerships appears to be North Penn in Colmar. I have been using Faulkner Mazda, and I cant say they are one of the best after they did a good job of scratching my airbox.

I used to live out in the Princeton area, I'm sorry I missed it, you had great weather, and it is a beautiful area.
I've got my eyes open for a spot to suggest for a meet out in Chester county as the roads are scenic, curvy, and pretty clear of traffic.

Glad to be of help :-)

I used to live in King of Prussia before moving to Yardly, I have to agree there are some nice areas. In August we are planning to have a BBQ and this July I believe a meet up in Valley Forge. Would love to learn of more great spots, unfortunately summer seems almost over and it has not even started - if that makes sense!

There is also a rotary meet up in Philly on May 23rd (organized by the rx7 guys). It is right by the stadiums in FDR park, off 95. Maybe you could make that meet, if not, hope to meet you at the later meets. Of course there is room for female members, any rotary fan is encouraged to be a part of the club. Sue, I don't know where your commute takes you but I can speak very highly of John Kennedy Mazda, 1403 Ridge Pike in Conshohocken (610.279.1700). They seem to know what they're doing, they're helpful, and they're very efficient.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I work up in West Point PA (very close to Colmar) and I live down by Longwood Gardens, so I literally drive by Brandywine everyday, which is why I asked about them. Glad I did! I think Colma works better for me than Conshy.
I may try and make it up for the Rotary meet May 23rd. More women may be a good thing, although Iwas kind of psyched thinking I was the only one (just kidding!) PLease, yes, get the wives to come and keep me company! I love the car but I'm not particularly mechanically oriented...
Now, for a new question: any recommendations on a really good stereo place/person to do some custom work - I'd love to get XM wired in and I need to improve this sound system somehow. Since it is so customized to the car I don't trust it to the run of the mill Circuit City kids, you know? Besides, I can't really figure out what it needs... but I think I'd like to swap out some of the speakers for Infinity and put in a subwoofer (so I would need an amp too). This "built for the car" head unit sure makes life complicated!

Hey -

Welcome to the board!!! I'm glad that you have had a good experience at John Kennedy Mazda. I switched to them from my former dealer who sold me the car, and I think that they are great too.

Just so you know, there is a local club run by Irish_In_An_Rx8 (better known as Wayne) and there are a bunch of events coming up if you want to see some other RX 8's and their owners. There is a group outing on the 15th and a meet on the 23rd. If you look above in this thread, you will see Wayne's banner in his post. Click on that and it takes you to the local site. There is also a meet thread stickied at the top of this NE forum that you can check.

Glad to hear from a new member. I drive through Bryn Mawr all the time in my lightning yellow 8 so if you see me be sure to wave. :)

bought it from john kennedy mazda, and so far they've kicked ass, really nice and all kinds of service bonuses free lifetime oil changes, free gas and wash with service :)

Congrats on the new obsession.

That's where I bought mine from. I too have nothing but good things to say about them.

Who was your salesperson?

I figured I would post this in the thread with the most recent activity. I had about two pages of text typed out before I decided it was turning into an unintelligible rant, and only a rough draft and a teacher's red pen would turn it into something worth reading. Long story short, Do NOT go to Faulkner Mazda for anything, from sales to service. I have so many complaints, that decorum and carpal tunnel syndrome prevent listing them here. If you'd like details, email me at dy290@hotmail.com, and put something like "Why not Faulkner?" in the subject line or come to the May 23rd meet. I'll be more than happy to go on a rant there.

A few have been unhappy with faulkner - okay, ALOT! I personally called up Mazda regarding their service. If they receive many complaints their license to sell Mazda Vehicles will be revoked! I'd be happy to put any thoughts on our site. Theres a submission form at

http://www.rx8tristateclub.com/writeup_submission.asp

They do seem to like to save a buc rather than help!

NICE, looks like we'll have a sweet turnout at the FDR Park Philly meet. The area is huge so there will be plaenty of room. HAZE, I think I most definitly saw you near my old school, Villanova, last week!--I graduated last year but I still hang around there if work permits me to find spare time. Sue, Welcome in.....there is always girls at our meets as far as I know, so you'll fit right in---everyone is so welcoming anyway!......I finally got the pics of the calipers Wayne, so check em out- lemme know what you think. I'll get a nice decal pic in there asap too, cause the little "RX-8" decal on the caliper looks hot. Have a great week all. -

I got mine from Pacifico in the automall in Philly. I went back and forth from John Kennedy, and Pacifico and just went with Pacifico cause I developed a trust better with them cause I visited and test drove so much. They had the best overall package and price anyhow- But JKennedy was awesome! as well....
