Well, it's official... I'm joining the "blown motor" club now... I'll have more details later, but I have to get to my sister's wedding. Bottom line is I'm in a Suburban while my car is having brain surgery.

Well, my trip to the big state of Arkansas has been delayed, so I can elaborate a little.

I was running a few errands and went to the laundry mat (No, my broke ass does not have a washer and dryer). I left there after putting my clothes in the dryer and was headed to wash my baby. When taking off from a red light, I noticed a serious loss of power and it was "knocking". I checked the oil thinking it might be low. It was at the low line, but not below that. I went ahead and put more oil in it, but that didnt' help. I took it to the dealership, had my guy look at it, and got his advice. He said he had seen a few others do the same thing, and he has had to do a motor swap on both of them. He called the tech line, got it confirmed, and now I am awaiting a date which they will begin.

The good news is, it will be taken care of under warranty.

By the way... I think mine was supposed to be Silver. It has been out for a total of 9 months in less than a year for 2 transmissions, a clutch (all within 5 driving days), wrecked for 4 1/2 months, and now a motor. Wow...

Thanks for everyone's support and wishes. I'll post more as I get more information. I just hope [knocks on wood] that nothing goes wrong tomorrow so I can make my sister's wedding.

Well, the way I figure is this....... I think the only 100% original parts on my car are my seats and rear end. I've had the whole car painted, body kit, wheels, tires, fenders, doors, transmission, clutch, motor, and dash work. I might was well re-do the interior and get a new rear end. :D:

Oh well, I'll find out tomorrow around lunch how bad this trip will be. Hopefully it won't be another 4 months.

Big-O... nice talking. I'm jealous of your turbo. I guess now would be the time to do it!
Ajax - No idea what caused it so far. Actually, the current word it it was caused from Carbon build up. I'll get more details tomorrow and will share.

With the luck you're having, my bet is that you're going to get rear ended and spill a quart of oil all over the interior of your car.

I wonder if one of your oil coolers is bad.

Damn Slim you do have the worst luck. Well, at least she is still under warranty. It's not like you have 84,000 miles on her (knock on wood). You should have gotten yellow. Maybe you can contact Mazda and tell them that it would be cheeper for them to just give you a new one.

have u ever ran synthetic oils or a hevier weight oil instead of the 5w 20?

Slims8

No synthetics or anything...

Coop - I did say it though. It's been a while, but I mentioned that I would like to have a new motor before warranty runs out.

Slim, so sorry it's blown, but I'm glad that you're getting it replaced under warranty.
You should seriously test stuff for the space program, to ensure it can't be damaged under any circumstance! :wink2: :spank:

:D: I know... I should get 'er back today. They also sent my PCM to California. I am getting a new flash that hasn't been released yet. It is supposed to speed up the oil stepper. I guess we'll see...

Slims8

Yep... just got home. She's back for the last time. I ended up getting the new flash that solved my problem... no motor.

Gotta give my 2 thumbs up to Hiley again for great service and support.

so there was nothing wrong with your motor??? did the ecu go bad or something???

Slims8
03-21-2006, 05:44 PM
I don't know... aparently there have been a few other known issues that were just like mine. A few of them have had motor replacements while some have tried this new flash. It just speeds up the oil stepper. I have plenty of warranty left, so I figured I'd beta test this new flash :D:

Not that I am aware of... but there is a thread for members that have blown motors.

Well, the new flash either sucks or something is wrong with my motor. It has used 3 1/2 quarts of oil in 3 weeks. Today it started knocking again. They told me to bring it in Monday. It sounds like a new motor may be coming afterall.

ouch..indeed.. i would liek to know exactly what failed...but i guess the tech's won't know they'll send off the motor and it'll get torn apart somewhere else

04-14-2006, 05:35 PM
Well, here's the update... Last Friday they told me to continue driving the car and keep notes of gas mileage and oil consumption. This is because they haven't replaced my motor yet, but gave me a flash that hasn't been released yet.

I've driven 328 miles since I left there. I've used 15.57 gallons of gas (over 21 MPG), but have used over a quart of oil. It was topped off Friday afternoon, and the light came on just now. Pathetic! I guess she'll be going BACK in on Monday to see what the deal is. This is getting old!

Would it be possible to get a newer model engine or pay the difference for one? And would it be covered only with the orignal warranty?

The Mighty Red
04-14-2006, 06:45 PM
I don't believe the Renesis engine has changed since its release (I'm pretty sure of this fact anyway). The '06 motor is the same as the '03 motor.

Unless they can show misuse or abuse - it would be completely covered under warranty.

Slims8
04-14-2006, 06:50 PM
No, the motor hasn't changed at all. It's still the same. It will be covered under warranty as they have been aware of my problem for over a month now. They were just wanting someone to "beta test" this new flash. I think it failed unless something is just seriously wrong here.

TeamRX8
04-15-2006, 01:33 PM
the high to low mark on the dipstick is 1.8 qt, hard to believe you used over that amount in that time even if meter oil pump ran at max capacity all the time ...

Slims8
04-16-2006, 12:56 PM
Yep... kind of what I was thinking. I've been through 5 whole quarts of oil in 1500 miles.

Well, it's official. They are replacing the motor. They should have one by Friday, then have the car done by the middle of next week.

Apparently the flash update works fine, but my Apex seals are shot.
