View Full Version : Do all Mazda owners tend to be this ... "passionate"?

The RX-8 seems to attract lunatics like porch lights attract moths.

I was at Home Depot last night, and when I came back out to my car, there was this guy in his mid-40s inspecting it -- he was walking all around it, peering in the windows, looking underneath, etc. I smiled to myself (I tend to like the attention :) ), then went up to him.

He asked "Is this your car?", I said "Yeah, I just picked it up yesterday." He said it was really nice, BUT... Then he launched into this rant about how pissed off he was that Mazda put "such a butt ugly back seat and doors" onto the successor to the RX-7, and how he wrote a letter to Mazda telling them so a couple years back when he saw the RX-Evolv concept and they'd never responded (big surprise). Then before I could get a word in edgewise he pointed to his Miata a couple parking spaces away and started in on how the RX-7 was the Miata's big brother, and he was looking forward to the 2006 RX-7 ('cause Road & Track said that's when it will definitely be released  )....

Anyway, this guy was a little, er, "eccentric". Are all Mazda owners this way? (I've never owned one before myself).

I think he just failed to realize that the RX-8 isn't the successor to the RX-7, that's all...

Maybe a *tad* too passionate about it though :)

There are usually a few for every marque..

I must admit though, when I had my MX-5 there were a few... oddballs ... in the OC. lol

Hehe, I went to home depot last night too.

As I was cruising there, this old mercedes with 2 18-20 some year old guys were cruising beside me. he was RIGHT beside me for awhile. I look over and the guy has this odd smirk on his face and as he nods "sweet ride".

VERY funny.

Be Happy! You're blessed to own "one of those cars".

It'll attract wanted (and unwanted?) attention likely for a long long time if not always, because:

1. It is a marvelous car, standing still, and esp. moving down the road to see. It was designed and built by car people first, not just bean counters and transportation engineers.

2. most everything else out there is just same-ol-same-ol, and the car buying public and esp enthusiasts have been waiting for a CHEAP (read inexpensive) FUN GREAT LOOKING-HANDLING CAR!

And YOU GOT ONE! Enjoy the ride and the attention! You deserve it I'm sure! :D

At least he didn't ask you if it had a v-6 under the hood.

And reason number 3, at least around here:

3. My RX-8 was the first one delivered within a 50-mile radius. So nobody around here has ever seen one!
