Is it bad that I like the Zoom-Zoom? and a question (new rx-8 owner)
Is it bad that I like the Zoom-Zoom? and a question (new rx-8 owner)
I've had my Silver 05, base model for a month now and I have to say, this is one fantastic car. I used to hate the Zoom-Zoom ads, but now I'm a complete believer in how Mazda makes their vehicles, especially mine.
I was reading this board for a good few months before my purchase to learn more about the car, and you guys and girls have been great sources of information (and entertainment too).
I do have one question, and it's not about mileage, octane, or an MS version of the 8. My questions is, do you guys try and acknowledge any rx-8's when you see them on the road? With a friendly wave or a honk?
Maybe because this is my first new car, my first stick, and first rotary- but I'm always happy when driving my car around, and when I see another on the road in Austin (they're fairly rare here), I get excited and feel like waving to them. Do you guys do the same?
So thanks, rx8club.com, for all the help and good times. And for those reading, if you are the tit-gray rx-8 that was driving around 71 and Manchaca last night, I didn't mean to cut you off after waving, the large SUV in front of me prevented me from seeing the stopped car the next lane waiting for me. On the plus side, this car has good breaks too.

Love zoom-zoom. It's not an ad gimmick / jingle, it's an expression of that feeling you got when you were a kid and you blasted down a hill on a skateboard or sled.. or when you crest the big rise in a rollercoaster and head down at warp 6..
The 8 is zoom-zoom written in steel and aluminum.
Welcome to the sickness....

Examples: I may drive parallel with them for a minute, give a small honk and they still won't get it. This happened with a teenager with a lightning yellow.
Then there was this other time where I was outside a collision repair center to get some quotes on some minor scratches. I parked next to a nordic green and the female owner didn't know she had a rotary.
And in general, I just don't get any acknowledgement in traffic.
To add to that, a majority of rx8s I've seen are automatics. Forget about exterior car care, too. I wonder if they add oil at all...
Yea I wave to them, they're rare up here too. Sometimes they're ******** and don't wave back, but those are usually the old guys so i open my window and show them my young age and they get all pissed. If you wanna wave then wave. Don't let anyone hold you back buddyyyyyyyy

I saw one at a gas station a week back, silver like mine and I pulled into the slot behind him as he was taking off, so there was no planned exchange of words like:
"Hey."
"Hey."
"How many cylinders does that think have?"
"Zero."
"Right on!"
~ I read this from a thread here a few weeks back.
So far I have had one good conversation with a lady in her thirties, maybe late twenties, in an elevator. she said she owned a yellow one, the first one shipped to austin in 2003. I was impressed, she didn't look like a typical car girl. Maybe I should have spent more time in the elevator with her, but I was running late.
PrescriptionInfinity:
You probably would have remembered if it was me, I do indeed have the 'zoom-zoom' sticker on my back windsheild and I probably would have seemed rude breaking fast infront of you like I did. but I think the tit-gray I saw had two people in it, and it was on the feeder of 71 before the light at Manchaca
Well, I guess I'll just keep on waving then. maybe one day I'll get a response back.

I try to wave or give a thumbs-up. I had one guy actually chase me down to chat at a red light, cuz he'd never seen the Shinka black cherry before and thought it was some kind of custom job and wanted to know where I got it.
