Hi everybody,
Just wanted to register and say hello. I'm a brand new RX8 owner as of this saturday. Funny how it happened, I came to the dealer to wash my 04' mazda 6 and decided to test drive new speed 6 and a RX8 they had sitting there for a couple weeks, a CSV (customer service vehicle/from the corporate auction)... Needless to say, RX8 came first and there was no need to drive Mazdaspeed 6. I just knew, as a 6 owner, that there's no way it'd live up to RX8 even if it was faster, which I still doubt. So there went my Sat. afternoon...signing my life away for another 5 years LOL. All I have to say is that there's no way in hell I'd be able to go back to the 6, maybe just for fuel consumption. RX8 is great, I never imagined driving could be so much fun.
Note for Mazda6club.com members - there will be an AEM CAI for sale any day now. LOL

Cheers

Congrats new member. Enjoy your new ride and welcome to the club.

When I was looking at new cars I drove the G35,350Z, Audi TT as well as others and nothing compared to the feeling I had driving the 8. It's almost intoxicating.

BTW, as I haven't done much research before I bought it, I'd greatly appreciate if anyone could give me an ideal whether I got a good deal or not.
Its a silver/platinum 05, all options (not shinka) but the NAVI, matching Mazdaspeed 18" rims wrapped into BFG (awesome looking thread) tires, 6 speed, with 7.9K Mi on it for 24K.
Is it a pretty good deal?

Yeah, those are mazdaspeed gunmetal 18" ers that matched the car perfectly. They really make the car look. It must have been a demo/model at another dealership.

Congrats on the purchase and welcome to the Cult! ummm, I mean uh....club.

Can't wait to see pictures of your new car when you get a chance. As far as little things to know about your car; please do not turn off your car EVER unless it's had a chance to warm up. There's a small chance that it will flood and then won't start. (topic beaten to death...try a search)
Fuel Mileage: It's a sports car...be happy with what you get.

Other then that, just have fun with your car!

Thanks for good advise. I'll post pixs sometime soon. Do you think I have a chance driving it during the winter with snow tires? I live in MN, so its kinda a concern of mine.

Not a problem. Get yourself some quality snow tires and your good to go. Just check out the MW section, there are alot of members here from the midwest.

Don't worry about if you got a good deal or not since it's already done and someone will inevitably say you got ripped off no matter what. Just worry about enjoying the car!

Now if only I could pull the trigger to buy one myself I've been thinking about it since november!

so far just a K&N drop in. The air box itself has a very good design. IMHO there's no need for a CAI at all....noise perhaps?

If you try and drive in the snow with those tires, you may flip the car just by thinking about turning the car on. But holy crap they look cool.

Thanks guys. Going from 6 to RX8 is unbelievable...but the gas mileage makes me wanna cry The winter tires are definitely a must for this car... what's the best/cheapest way to go about? I bet nobody makes steel wheels to cover our rotors? right? Are 17'' the smallest i can go with?

I just test drove a G35 Coupe yesterday. Salesman took me to a big sweeping curve and told me to take it at 40 mph as if he were Parnelli Jones. I almost fell asleep out of boredom. When I test drive one without a rep in the car, I will get a better sense of it's true capabilities but so far am not impressed at all. RX-8 is indeed exciting to drive.

Well, I had a better salesman than that when I test drove the G35. It really is a fine car... but I still liked the 8 better.

By the way, robrecht, you *are* aware that you're icon's tune is "How Dry I Am", right? (plus an extra note)

We too are new members of the club. We were fortunate to get a new salesman, so we dealt with the sales manager with the new guy just sitting there. Have enjoyed the car as little as we have driven it. Enjoy this forum, very informative and pretty entertaining.

From what I've read here, that sounds like a good idea. I have no first hand knowledge, because what I read here quickly convinced me to get snow tires on before the first flakes hit.
