Almost rear ended by another 8!

On my way home from work last night, I was happy to see a white RX8 turn in behind me. Knowing how much I love my car, I assumed the driver in the white 8 would have the same care. Well, traffic came to a halt a little down the road. No problem, the 8 can stop faster than whatever chevy 4 door was in front of me. I assumed the driver behind me would have no problem either.

Well, I looked up and the driver of the white 8 was not slowing down. Luckily, I was in an 8 and could cut the wheel and head for the turn lane. The driver in the white 8 stopped with about a half a car length between him and the chevy.

This would have been my second rear end collision in the 8. An old beat up Nissan truck hit me about 6 months ago. Luckily, I found a great body shop in Birmingham, AL. I really did not want to see them again however.

Little white RX8 in Huntsville, if you read this board - keep your eyes on the road. =)

He must have been too busy admiring your car. You're lucky it wasn't a silver 8 behind you or he would have nailed you for sure.

I had the same thing happen to me in houston. It was another 8 owner seemingly trying to either write down my plate # or see inside or something, but he almost smashed the **** out of me.

Glad you got away intact.

had a bad encounter w/ a white 8 in downtown la on the 110 south a few months back too. the ****** wasn't paying attention and then decided to stop in the middle of the freeway to try to merge over to a congested 10 east ramp at the last minute.

is this the curse of the whites?

I have been uber paranoid ever since that last wreck. I watch my rearview now almost always when in traffic.

If an 8 rear-ends another 8, does that make a Limo?

I'm guessing the white 8 was an automatic with a 40 year old woman talking on her cell phone.

No... It makes 16...

Brian- I understand what you mean about being super cautious! I would be heartbroken for something to happen to my baby! You have to be careful with these nutty drivers here in town, esp. on Hwy 280!! What body shop are you referring to? (Hope I never have to use it!!!!)

Mike Trammell Body Shop downtown. They are more than a ding fixing shop. They do top notch restoration type painting. My dad restores old Yamaha motorcycles. He went around and inspected all the paint booths in town for some painting he was having done on restoring an 80's Yamaha Fazer. Everyone I have showed the car can not see where the new paint starts and where the old paint ends. I am sure there may be some structural issue that could reveal the damage, but the paint and external appearance do not give it away.

Wow, glad you were looking out for your rear! Being a motorcyclist, I'm always keeping an eye on the person behind me even when I'm in my car. He probably will watch out from now on (hopefully!).

I rode motorcycles before I rode a bicycle. It has helped me with my driving I think.

Why would you assume that anybody is actually paying attention to anything? Here's some advice from someone that deals with constantly stopping freeway traffic. I know your 8 can stop on a dime, but who cares when the guy behind you can't, won't, or is too busy on the phone to react quickly. Leave yourself plenty of room at all times and when someone stops short use every inch of distance between you and the car in front of you to reduce speed as slowly as possible for the moron behind you. Believe it or not you do have some control in who rear ends you. Always check your rear view and if someone is on your ***, let them go by.

Wow, I wish you had been there to magically port my 8 out of the way when the guy hit me last time. Since he was digging in his passenger seat for something I was at a complete stop behind another car. If you notice, I didn't get hit in this case where I was moving and did have the ability to take action. I also don't recall any account here of anyone being on my ***.
