this is hilarious (I can say that now because he lived):

How not to Autocross (http://srika.com/video/350z_autox_amazing.mov)

What is this guy thinking?????????????///////////////////
maybe someone forgot to tell him this was an AutoX competition and not Hot Import Nights, yo!!

p.s. although it seems as if the course design is suspect too, cant' really tell how far off-course he went though.

It was a drift event. I happened in one of the other lots in SD on Sun while we were at the natl tour.

This was not an autox, and not an SCCA sanctioned event. It was a drifting event put on at Qualcomm stadium this Sunday.

Already mentioned in the San Diego National Tour thread below yours.

hahha...I saw ULLOSE's post right after I posted this!
good to know that the SCCA isn't gonna lose any event time over this incident. maybe that guy was a frustrated ex-B Stock solo-er, decided to try something else since he couldnt' beat the rx8!

It is ture that we dont directly see the effect of this, but these @ss clowns are the ones that make it hard to keep lots like that and drive the cost up.

now that i took a look at the video, dang he got quite a bit of air form a 6" curb, poor car, you would think even with the courses that i have seen, autxing, that obstacles like that must be pretty far off the course?? no?

That looks like a really stupid course lay out. I wouldn't put too much blame on the driver.

One of the most important lessons to learn in racing is when to walk away from a competition. Part of every course walk should be a risk assesment of potential hazards. You gotta know the areas where going 100% could result in damage to your vehicle and make sure you're not hanging it out there.

Maybe because it wasn't at an autocross? It was a drift event.

It didn't drift very well. But I've driven a 350Z, that's about how they turn.

Feel bad for the guy tho. Don't think insurance will cover that.

At about 9 seconds into, it looks like he loads up the front end with hard braking...

Most Definetely. I would still say its dissapointing to see such a poorly laid out course for such an unredictable style of driving, especially with many beginners out there.

Most beginners don't know to walk away, they'll just assume its safe because its been planned out.

It looks and sounds like he tried to kick the back end out twice just before that. There's two hard revs followed by slamming on the brakes (too late).

I wonder if he's staggered? :spank:

That wing gave him to much downforce to kick the rear end out.

Wow! So, to initiate a drift, the first thing he did was accelerate to a speed at which he would need a gear that lowered his effective torque?
What was he doing? Drag racing?
Even with the right setup, he was moving too fast.

I love to see things like that. Too bad there wasn't an embankment on the other side of that curb down which he could have fallen and burst into flames.

Oops. Wrong thread.

The word has come down from the stadium... After March 18th, must already have an event setup, there will no longer be drifting at Qualcomm.

From another forum:

"The official word from Qualcomm Stadium is that they will never allow any type of drifting on their property after March 18th 2006.

Reasons: Noise, Lot appearance, Liability. "

I'm glad that it didn't affect the auto-xers at the stadium. Auto-x doesn't leave 1/2 as much rubber on the asphalt as drifting does.

Not so much the rubber on the ground as all the trash and parts of tires.

out of simple curiosity, how many style points are awarded for tripod parking on a tree?

That is some scary stuff. That anyone even thinks that they are autocrossing is a problem. Autocross is about car control. I am guessing that other drift organizations are going to be pissed at this group too. What in the hell are they thinking allowing the the course to go that close to the curbs? And that camera guy is going to be maimed or dead within a year if he keeps that up. :nono:
