View Full Version : I was thinking hard last night about Stress and the ameircan way
eclps0 03-03-2006, 01:35 PM Stress is such an overworked word these days, you might wonder if we are genuinely more stressed than people in the past, or whether we just talk about it more.
It's possible that a bit of both is true. But certainly most people claim to feel more stressed than ever before - especially in relation to their occupations.
Would it be nice to not have any stress, i am searching for a way to live a peaceful live with out stress.
to live a a full life with out a care in the world
like robbins willims once said in a show in NY
Fu*k it
your going to get cancer, your going to get fired
well i dont care Fu*k it
things happen for a reason maybe fate maybe not but every choice you make will always open new doors and close doors that have already been opened..
enjoy your life u dont have much time to live

That's a good point although still not too easy to accept at times.
dmorales 03-03-2006, 02:28 PM bad day?
I think things are more stressful. Today, everything is MUCH faster paced. And with all the accomodations to increase gloablization, political correctness in areas of gender and race, and rising cost of living, there is much more to worry about.

BlueEyes 03-03-2006, 02:30 PM I wonder if Robin Williams said that before or after his bank account passed 7 figures?
I also wonder if it's possible for many to live a full life without a care in the world. Many consider a full life to include responsibility. It's hard to be care free, and responsible.
Anyhow, what stress do you have. Last time I checked you were a waiter living in a house your mom bought.
jisoo26 03-03-2006, 02:30 PM Don't think too hard...it's stressful :D:
dupa12345 03-03-2006, 02:33 PM i dont see a point to this .. stop stressing

Ouch!
BlueEyes 03-03-2006, 02:49 PM Ouch!
Yeah, maybe a bit harsh.
Photic 03-03-2006, 02:52 PM Might be faster, but I can't imagine things being more stressful than something like the depression.

Yeah ouch!
It's a good point, I understand where you're coming from, but I think it is important to remember that all honest work deserves respect.
I agree with mostly everybody here...stop worrying about it! Deal with what pertains to YOU. Don't worry about the rest of the world's problems. <- that causes stress.

BlueEyes 03-03-2006, 03:08 PM I don't deny it deserves respect. But let's face it, the well being of humanity doesn't rest on his shoulders. I don't see what he could possibly so stressed about.
delrmx01 03-03-2006, 03:10 PM Get a QLink... LOL.. just kidding.
rotten42 03-03-2006, 03:10 PM I think more people are stressed these days for a couple of reasons:
1) People are too afraid to take a chance on something ...............like doing what they always wanted to for a job....or when finding that perfect mate. There have always been reasons to be afraid; I just think people give in to this more these days.
2) Instant gratification - everything these days is so quick....information, food, entertainment. When people don't achieve in a short period of time they get stressed. Look at the explosion of day traders. They all have that one thing in mind. Finding that one trade that will get them rich - quick.
3) Family values - Values have changed . In the 50's it was good enough to have a modest home and be surrounded by your family. I think we are more infatuated with personal wealth (greed) than ever before. What does it say about our society when we have spoiled rotten sports stars being insulted with only a $14 million deal?

ZAP!! :ylsuper:
QBallz 03-03-2006, 04:02 PM Here is some stress for you.
Neways in the past year and a half I have had 2 promotions with substantial raises both times. I make a very respectable income and now have the possiblity to move up yet again, to an even more demanding but pays better looks better on a resume, but is also a ton more work.
The real question is now should I stop where I am at and wait awhile, should I continue to climb the ladder as quick as possible? How would my year old marriage hold up to increased time at work, combine with more stress from work and even more travel.
Combine this with the fact that my current manager (and fairly close friend) will probably be supppper bummed about it. I currently like my position and am comfortable in it, but I'm really not learning anything new, and am in almost a kind of a rut. However the new position would really push me, and has the potential to lead to even bigger things.
AHHHHHHHHHHH as you can see from the randomness of my writing I still havn't figured out what I want to do (or what I'm going to do). I guess I have about a week or so to get everything strait, and after reading what I have written I'm going WAY off topic but oh well.
/confused rant off

I would take the job and if it had an adverse affects on the marriage you can always quit...quit with better credentials than if you never took the job.
You say you are :
1) in a rut
2) not learning
3) Comfortable - this isn't a good thing
Those are great reasons to move on. AS far as your boss/friend goes. As long as you have earned your promotion on the up & up then there is no reason not to take it. You can;t let his feelings get in the way of a deserved promotion.

eclps0 03-03-2006, 09:41 PM stress......
i might not have alot of bills to pay or responablitys as others. But i do have to pay my car insurance, rent, cell phone , food , electric bill, ect
But besides that I have alot of pressure on me right now from myself and my parents to finish school and to be a somebody. I also have another level of problems that I have to deal with which I cant say online.
I am 21 soon to be 22 I don’t have a free ride anymore I have bills to pay and since when was having a waiter job is not easy and stressful. When it comes to the phony people in Weston and the old Jewish couples that think 5 % is a big tip.
Zoom zoom I need to go back to the doctor I have been sick for the past 3 weeks and I am on alot of meds. I am hoping I get better by next Sunday (big snowboarding trip in PA)
P.s the miata would be great if I owned one. There would be too many payments if I went with the miata, car payment, and insurance. With the 8 the car was 35,000 I lost about 19,000 if I would trade in so I will keep it till it dies.

Gee, I only wish I could complain about something like that.
Take the job and be glad you have all these opportunities to move up and progress and make a better income. Be glad you don't keep losing your pay and benefits!!!
