View Full Version : What's your car ownership background?

I noticed that there seems to be quite a few new RX-8 owners that come from Miata backgrounds - I figured the majority would be RX-7 owners. Anyhow, this highly scientific poll should be interesting. OK, maybe not that scientific :).

Anyhow, the question of the day is - what was your last car? Or at least what would you consider your car "background" to be?

"None of the above"? Or perhaps "Many of the above." My last car was a Miata, but that was my first non-rotary since I bought my first RX-3 in 1978. But although my last RX was a -7, I have more experience with RX-3's.

Guess I'll opt for "RX-7".

American muscles cars in THE BEGINING

But Euro cars mostly. The RX-8 and G35 where the only non-Euro cars I looked at.

I do have a 2002 WRX wagon right now though, my first Asian car.

My most recent car is my FD. I actually still have it, but will probably be selling it soon. Before my RX7 I had a Miata, so I also fit in more than one category.:)

I don't think you'll find too many RX7 owners buying the RX8 as a replacement. They aren't really the same type of car. My 7 would beat the snot out the 8 in most categories. I bought the RX8 because I wanted a four seater that was practical and still fun. The RX7 is more of a pure sportscar. So I guess waht I'm trying to say is they appeal to two different markets.

Actually, I can see many RX-7 owners (not necessarily 3rd gen owners) buying the RX-8 for the same reason I can see Miata people buying the '8 - you need a more practical car for a growing family, or at least a car you can cram more people and stuff into, but you still want something fun and sporty to drive that you can enjoy. The RX-8 fills that gap perfectly.

Mind, this poll isn't what your last car was, but what you would consider your background to be. The only non-rotary car I had was an old Camry passed down to me from my parents. Now I have 4 RX-7's and 2 drivers (myself and my wife). I'm totally from an RX-7 background :).

And, yes, I hope to trade my wife's '90 convertible in for an RX-8 in about a year or so. She loves the '8 too! :)

Well this will be my first non-toyota and first rotorary. I've had a 90' corolla, 92 celica gt and a 99' celica gts. I can't stand how small the new celica is and its a little underpowered, so its ether the the rx-8 or the new z, but I'm geared more towards the 8 since the inside of the z looks plain cheap and ready to break at any moment.

Yeah I can't vote.

I had a cavalier than a tiburon. Mazda is MOOCHO better. Feels VERY solid everything has a substantial feel to it rather than a hollow crap feel.

having owned 2 n/a FCs... the next step up for me will be the RX-8. I can't wait for the days and I can only continue to study the 8. :)

Two Integras and my current Prelude. All three treated me very well wrt to being reliable while driven very hard. I hope the 8 will continue this trend. :)
