i'm fascinated... how do you get A SIX on what appears to be an equivalent of 8th grade common sense test....... can vince young actually read....

I hear that he scored a 16 and not a 6! Anyhow, Vince is a winner and regardless of his score, he singlehandedly beat USC when NOBODY thought the Longhorns had a chance.

yes i have heard on a *retest*, he got 16... still barely adequate in terms of scoring scale... but he's a football player, not a rocket scientist, so i guess some basic brain functions aren't necessary for him?? lol

IMO, brain function is pretty important for a QB in modern pro systems. Have you seen the size of most NFL playbooks? he's gotta memorize and comprehend a lot; 1st, 2nd, 3rd-reads, etc. Waaaay more complex than UT's offense. I hope I'm wrong, but I'd be scared as hell to draft him #1. He's got Ryan Leaf written all over him! (and Leaf had a better arm)

With VY as the QB you only need one play. Have you ever watched a Texas game.....they run the same play every down. VY in shotgun with a running back to his right side with 3 WR running various patterns. If the WR's are covered then he either runs it himself or hands off to the RB. VY is like have 12 men on offense.....he's impossible to defend.

yea that may work in the college game, but in the *much* faster pro game, a smart defensive coach like Bill Belichick will make a fool out of VY :o:

Perhaps. The great thing is that we will be able to see if that's true in the next few years. VY is a great athlete and guys like him will always dominate the game. Sure the NFL has better coaching and faster players......but VY is not your typical college QB. A multi-dimensional QB always makes a difference.

Which is *EXACTLY* why NFL scouts are trying to figure him out....I don't care what you did in college, to be a succesful NFL QB you have to be able to learn and adapt to your team's offensive scheme. Forget what UT did; it worked great at UT but the pros are a new ballgame. In the NFL, no one player is better than the average Defensive 11. conversely though, hopefully the NFL team will also learn to maximize the QB's individual talents.
on top of that, even w/ the best scheme/QB/playcalling, we saw this NFL season more than ever ,that the OL pretty much dictates how well an offense will produce. I'm sure VY, Linehart, etc. are all doing some scouting of their own, they wanna go to the team that's already got some decent OL talent.

isn't it ironic, that at the pinnacle of the game of football, it is the most fundamental line play, that usually determines the fate of a team that season??

Yup. look at the 2 superbowl teams. their offensive 'skill players' are really not all that spectacular. but w/ decent coaching and solid OL, they made it to the big game.
