Can anybody tell me what would be the best setup for competing with these cars?

Is there any way to get onto the level of these cars without going FI, for example, would 4.77 gears, headers, intake, exhaust get the RX8 anywhere near these cars or does it take more?

Define competing... SCCA, MSCC, on the track. Autox, drag racing, ect.

Don't.

IMO the 8 was never made for dragging. It's great for autox, but dragging is not the rx8's strong point.

Stock to stock they will be faster as well as mod for mod. Now if you just want to beat up on other guys stock cars with a RX8 NOS is the easy way.

The only one it can run with in Autox is the 350z. The rest are in a faster class for a reason, they are faster. In road racing the RX8 is a big fat turd and even now that it has been moved down from T2 to T3 it still cant get it done. :crying:

The answer to all your questions in running with EVO and STI etc...at the strip lie in one simple word: MUSTANG

And I'm not really being too much of a smart ass...if I wanted a car for the dragstrip, the Mustang GT would be what I'd get.

Final gear, flywheel, clutch, smaller wheels, weight loss, good rubber and enormous amount of skills and luck.

It's still to be seen how the RX8 will run against the STi/Evo in STU this year. I, for one, will be hoping it's right up there.

Forgot about STU. I think at Natl tours and Natls the RX8 can win for sure. The only problem will be Prosolo, going to be hard to make up .4 per side at the start.

teamrx8, did you consider going with one of the dynamic suspension setups from speedsource?

The 350Z is the only one of those cars you can realistically take on the road course or drag strip with the mods available and even then its gonna be driver skill. On the road course a good driver can take down a 350Z, at the drag you need some help from NOS or intake/exhaust, ecu tuning, driving classes---or FI. EVO and STIs are out of our league--you may have a better shot modifying the car to chase down a Tiptronic 911.
