I know I have done stuff in Word before on various different computers that had different versions of Word and they all opened and worked for me, being backward and forward compatible. Gray-8 02-25-2006, 12:00 PM Never used Works before, but if it gives you and option to save as a Rich Text File (.rtf) use that, then it will open on your work machine. RX8_ML 02-25-2006, 03:49 PM I thought works and words were different programs? Skythe 02-25-2006, 06:15 PM OK I'm saving a letter I typed up on my PC in 2000 MS Works/Word but I cant open it or print it from my work PC that just has MS word? Can someone tell me whats going on here? Works and Word are two different program, although they are both made by Microsoft. Works is the free "light" bundle software that people get with new systems thinking it's the same thing as word. The sorry fact is, you'll be lucky if MS Word will convert the file for you. For the most part, Works files *.wks files prove to be incompatible with Word even though Word gives you the option to open MS Works files. Accomplish this by going to File -----> Open... At the bottom of the window that pops up (where you choose your file to open), where it says "Files of Type" or "File Types" (depending on your version) use the drop down menu to scroll down to the bottom to choose "Works" You have been the first or the last to get screwed by this. Microsoft does this to increase the sales of Office and Word. DOMINION 02-25-2006, 07:03 PM Yup you are right. Thanks Skythe. I have MS Works and MS Word. I was under the impression that I could use them as an iinterchangeable program but guess not. So I had to take 5min of my time to re-type the doc. Oh well MS sucks D0nky Ball$ |
