A few of you were there. How fast was it?

Very fast. Rev limiter in second gear on the way back. Some of the fast guys were in 3rd.

I was at Disney, on the way back I could swear I saw whiterex going North on 75 (I was on the way to Naples from Disney to look at a property before getting back to Miami, and how many White RX8's with Mazda contingency stickers really Travel North from Ft. Meyers :suspect: )

Anyway... seems the SSS mailing list is already buzzing with the speed being protested. Funny how when I protest it "Not normally exceeding" gets thrown at me. I guess it takes a protest at the National Level to make a dent

Bravo to the guys who protested.

Congrats to Aaron Buckley for winning today's event. He's pretty much gonna dominate this season in BS. Can't wait.

Alex, that was me... Ian was .1 sec behind the carts. The fast guys were in the 47's in BS, he ran like a 44.2... I heard that the course yesterday was protested. It was faster than any local events in my area for sure.

After the first day, I was in 6th place(behind the rest of the rx8's) and it was about a second from first to 6th.

Since I was sitting next to him as we drove through SC when that was posted, I'm quite confident it wasn't self-promotion. There was, however, a suspect with a laptop and Internet access in the backseat...

I certainly realize that BS times were not up to par with a lot of other classes...that performance is certainly not an indicator of future dominance for either driver of my car. However, we did what we needed to do to finish at the top of the class--and that doesn't suck. Congrats to Aaron on popping his national cherry. And it sure felt nice to end a loooooong national wood drought for me. And--gasp--I believe my car was the only RX-8 in the field that had never seen the benefit of a TeamRX8 part ... LOL

The courses were fast. Saturday was the Saturday course I've seen at at least two prior NT's there, with a few minor changes. No 3rd gear for us, but lots of beeper time and maybe a limiter hit here or there. A blast to drive, but a bit annoying that they refuse to do an original course.

Sunday was the same general shape and flavor (transition til you puke) but not a replica of any course I've seen there before. Sunday was faster...as said above, a little 3rd gear time.

Fun weekend...perfect weather...and aside from the course design controversy, the event was very well run.

12 entries in STU as well! No RX8s though :suspect:

LOL. WTF?

B Stock lost to C Stock AND G Stock.

With nothing but high speed slaloms and offsets, there wasn't really anyplace for an RX-8 to get an advantage over those cars. I never touched the brakes on saturday and only one place on sunday at the turnaround.

Clearly Darin and Mark were driving better than us but wheelbase really ruled at this event. With the exception of Ian in the GT3, even SS got tamed.

Looks like Sunday's times might be out. Protested for corner speeds.

"BIG NEWS!!!!!!!!

Just got off the phone with Cliff Rosenberg.

Robert Carpenter filed a protest against the course, citing that the Sunday Course was too fast, the Protest committee agreed and tosed out all Sunday times. The event will only be scored based on Saturday times ONLY."

That ruling is under appeal...I think we'll see Sunday times restored (although I'm more than happy to stand on Saturday alone :bigok: ) and future clarification on course design rules.

I sure hope thats what happens. I hate to see all those people's times thrown out when the protest really was just to bring to light the needed course design rule revisions.

I'd love to know how his speed was "clocked"

It seems he "runs lower profile tires and the speedo is not right".

btw: there would have been an RX8 in STU, but I traded this event for two NASA track days and a trip to Disney. If I had known we'd be doing track speeds I would have re-thought that :rollingla

Considering it was my 5th event in an RX-8, slow or not, I'm pleased. Thanks Keith. After driving your car at Nats with good tires and shocks, I knew it could be fun. - AB

typical forum fashion, I've spoken to about a dozen people who attended and thought it was a great event, not even knowing any of the BS you read on teh intrawebs until they got home and fired up the computer

oh, and congrats Buckwheat :)

Sure it is slow in an ES on street tires as I understand it, not to mention the guy is coasting half the time. :mdrmed:

Here is a little better one although not sure about how good the driver is:

http://media.putfile.com/SCCA-Nat-Tour-Ft-Myers

about the car: 2004 VW .:R32, 270 chp VR6, KW V3 suspension and Kumho V710's. 2nd tops out at 60.

Driver goes to 3rd gear for about 2 secs, around 40sec, then right back to 2nd.

Reference data points:
the street tire ES car had a fastest Sunday time of 53.1
the DSP VW had a 49.8
Aaron ran 47.6 in my car
Ian Stewart ran 44.2 :Eyecrazy: in the GT3 in SS

We were going to 3rd about where the VW guy did, but held it through the finish. I tried 3rd one other place (on the outbound trip) for one run, but it wasn't worthwhile.
