View Full Version : Wanna get new rims........

I've gotta Shinka and Im considering getting new rims....Im looking at either a bronze (not too dark) or a gold (not too bright)....I like both the 5Zigen pro racer in bronze and the Gram lights Pro in gold....

Ive attached a pic of each and one of my car....

Im looking for some thoughts on which would look best on the car....I really like
the Grams...but if the gold is too much I will go with the Zigens..
If anyone can photoshop, please help yourself....

Any other suggestions would be appreciated...
thanks

fabro, the car isnt black, its black cherry, which is kinda sorta dark purple-ish....but yes, gold rims on a black car are pretty darn sexy.

now that ive thought about it, id have to say that they would both look good. however, i have come to the following conclusion, which might be obvious:

gold: the way to go if you want to stand out, but may take some attention away from that sexy paint...

bronze: more stealth than gold, compliments the black cherry very well, but 2 darker colors together may be a bit much; that shouldn't be a problem as long as the bronze isnt too dark or there is a machined lip on the wheel.

hope that helps.

Light gold looks nice but personally I think that black rims with a silver lip look aggresive and clean on a black 8.....but then again you have cherry black so.........

This rim looks great on a black 8 http://www.tirerack.com/servlet/CallJsp?target=wheelSearchCloseUp&wheelIndex=50&sizeIndex=1&showRear=no&setIndex=11&filterSize=&filterFinish=&filterSpecial=&colorInd=3

02-20-2006, 10:07 AM
I think it would look good with "circuit minded" rims by 5zigen myself. Black spoke with a chrome lip and center. That way you look like you have rims on there even at night.... *has a serious issue with cars and same/near same colored rims*

shinka213
02-20-2006, 03:30 PM
now Im leaning towards the 5zigens....as they have more sizes available....I did like the mazdaspeed bronze but they only come 18x8 and if Im going to get new rims I want them a little bigger..

hey shinxie! I like the Zigens myself, but would LOVE them if they had a chrome center. It's just personal preference, I've never been a fan of the gold (MS or other).

CE28's were my second choice, but in black with the diamond cut lip. These were the three wheels that I was looking at:

(1) Volk CE28N
(2) Racing Hart J8
(3) Volk Gt7

Obviously you can see that the CE28 comes in gold, Racing Hart will come in Bronze (J8 Pro), anmd you can get the Gt7 in Noble Gold.

Oh, and if the question is "to zigen or not to zigen"...my answer would be, not to zigen :) Good luck with your choice, and in finding that sugar daddy.

Axis Hiro is no longer available in bronze. I was looking at getting those for my sugar baby, but Axis discontinued them. Reverb doesn't come in 19's....but does come in 18 and 20's I beleive.

Not much into BBS on our cars, those are typically common for german cars, like VW and such....but they do look nice.

yeah, but here is the thing you need to think about. If you order the last set, and then something happens to one of them, how would you replace it? I guess that is the same problem that could happen with any rim, I would just be nervous.

I tried finding a set here in California about 3 months ago and was not able to find a set. Good luck in locating them. You'll definately have a unique set of rims. I agree with you that they would look great.

Shinka, i got a question?
Seriously.. which wheel do you like best?

It's really that simple. If you're looking for our opnions.. everyone of us is different, and we have our own tastes. In the end, just buy whatever you like best.

If you buy the "most popular" wheel, but then later people tell you it sucks... your gonna hate it.
BUT, if you buy the wheel YOU really like, and people tell you it sucks... its all good because you still like the rim.

Ok, and with that i'm stepping off my soap box. Good luck on your wheel search.

the AXIS HIRO in bronze and they are not available.....Im gonna cry now :wtf:

the problem is this.....not actually picking out the rim, cuz a rim is a rim is a rim but which will go well colorwise with the black cherry....since I definitely want to do either gold or bronze but Im not sure which will compliment the black cherry....I will ultimately get the rim I want but I do value forum members ops when it comes to the coloring....I will definitely check out my speed shop the next weekend i dont work....and definitely price is an issue...I dont want to go buck wild either

I would agree, bronze will definatelly look better with the black cherry. I beleive the coloring on the Axis Hiro's would look nice, especially with the polished lip. Do your homework and try and find these wheels. Since your not in Cali, you may find them. None in Cali, I've already tried.

2 thousand....you planning on 18's? There is a big price bubble between 18 and 19's, especially because you could end up using your stock tires if forced to.

I did the same thing...called Axis. Was told that the "reverb" was the available option, and that they had no plans of "replacing" the bronze Hiro option. Reverb is gold, and not like the Hiro at all, unless you focus on the fact that both are 5-spoke wheels.

DROOOOOOOOL!

So since you decided, can I get an opinion for me now? :)

I wanna p/c the stock rims bronze, but having trouble finding someplace that has bronze. Do you think gold will look just as good?

They look better then I expected......but I still don't think that is the best looking wheel color for the Black Cherry paint.......just my opinion. I think these would look nicer.

How far you willing to drive to get your wheels done. There is a place in Long Beach that did the set on Cesaralaniz's wheels. He did his in black and said that the guy could do any color you wanted for the same price....he could even polish the lip if you wanted a look similar to what Shinka has. PM me if you are interested and I can forward some info to you so you can check out some options.

OMG, drool  Your car looks great with those wheels. Yes I have a boosted Shinka. Right now Im getting the motor rebuilt & ported. She will be going in for surgery next week if everything goes as planned. Anyway, awesome wheels. Just like Dan suggested, you need a slight drop and it willl be perfect.

What was the price? I might be willing to go to LB. I *finally* found a set of rims to borrow, so it's not such an issue, I can be missing the rims for a week or so. Let me know.

bronze or gold would definitely look great with black
bronze is a little more subdued and of course gold will give a much brighter look...i think tiggerlee has a brilliant black with gold accents...not sure about the rims tho...you could do a search...

if you are looking for a more bling bling type look...or you want to walk a little on the wild side....then gold would fit the bill IMO

bronze is more of a laid back look that compliments the black real nice...

From what I remember from my conversations with cesaralaniz, the wheels were done in two days. I think it was under $300 to have all four done. You must pull the tires off, and the center caps (since they are plastic) can not be done. You will have to hand paint these with model paint or some other equivalent. If you want the polished lip, I think it was going to be like 50 bucks more (per wheel) since they would be done by hand and would take more time to get done (a week I think).

I have sent a pm to cesaralaniz and will forward the contact info to you when I receive a response from him. I had the info for a bit, because I was thinking of coating a set of OEM's, but then discarded the message when I decided to spend my money on other things...I'll send it to you by pm when I receive it.

those rims look really good. those are one of the few i've seen that actually look good on the car. i personally would have gone for chrome since it is a dark colored car but yours turned out very well. look into a set of eibach springs.

I decided I'm gonna keep my original idea and go with bronze, not compromise for gold. :) I like the look of gold, but bronze is more me. Maybe I'd do gold in a different rim, but the OEM would be a bit much in gold I think. Thanks for your input. I'll be awaiting kwescott's reply and most likely make the haul to LB to get them done. Also plotting what else I'm going to do with my tax return and money from selling the mods on the old car. :)

I called them. They charge $90/rim and have a few different bronzes to choose from. Considering the place down here that DIDN'T have bronze was asking $80/85 per rim for 18s, they seems reasonable. What do you guys think? I mean, it's still a lot cheaper than BUYING new rims. Like $1600 cheaper than any rims I'd buy.

kwescott

sounds like prices have gone up since cesar did his. I know his was under 300 bucks, including the cost of pulling and re-mounting the tires. Was the 90$ estimate with the polished lip?

I think you should do it. Our stock wheels are very nice. I have my stock wheels on right now since I use them for autocrossing, and forgot how good they actually look. Not that I'm gonna keep them on, but they are still very nice.

Sounds like the pricing is competitive, and sounds like they have more options in the color range you were looking. If you have the time and money, I say it is definately a great idea. I'm anxious to see what color you end up with, and to hear your feedback on their quality. I'm sure you will be extremely pleased. Keep me informed.

Yeah under 300 would have been nice. Was that for 18"? Oh well, it might cost more, but like I said, if I were gonna buy new rims, I'd be spending 2G at least, so it's not a big thing. And it using the money from selling the mods off the old car anyway, so it's cool. It's just a bit of a hassle to drive up there (gotta pick up the spare rims in Murietta too), but it'll all be so worth it when they're done. :)

I would definitely go with the powder coat....I just forked over around 2K for new rims with tires.....I would have considered powder coating but I wanted something a little bit bigger than stock....
I say go for it....$90 is not bad at all

I would estimate that he had them done about 11 or 12 months ago. He is still very pleased with them. He says they are easy to keep clean as well, which is a plus.
