Minicooperonline.com, one of the biggest MINI forums on the web, was recently notified by BMW/MINI USA to remove the word 'mini' from their domain name or face legal action for trademark infringement.
Here's the thread detailing what happened:

and here's the thread for the petition:

As a car enthusiast in general, I can't fathom the arrogance by BMW/MINI USA to bear down on an enthusiast forum that ENHANCES their brand image like this.
Let's help them!

If you have enough lawyers, you can sue for just about anything and get just about whatever you want.
The weaker your case the more lawyers it takes to win your case. Nissan Motor has money. Nissan Computer does not. So the guy can't name his computer company after himself.
I always wondered when the poor bastard's site would be shutdown. At least he still has control of the site (to some extent).

First come-first served I say. If he registered the domain there shouldn't be diddly Nissan North America can do about it for lacking the vision of web presence.

This is ridiculous. Not as ridiculous as Mr. Nissan's situation, but almost as stupid...
I signed the petition, and I passed on the word to the guys at GrandAmGT.com. Thanks for the heads-up!

I think Uzi Nissan registered the nissan.com site before Nissan tried. Nissan Motors then had to do Nissandriven instead.
