last time I was down there, I cruised around the beltway in my jaguar, from one ariport to another, and there was little traffic, kept it around 90 or so. but if there is a better route to cannonball, i would be down for that

what if we cannonball from houston to galveston, i know htats a good route on a saturday night, I Know this because I just made the drive towing a racecar, still did 90, lol

How about starting at memorial park, and ending at one of the restaurants, maybe tortuga or IHOP? I'm in regardless. Even if it ends at one of the beaches.

Going from Houston to Galveston at high speeds is brave. The cops can be bad going through LaMarque and a couple of other places down there.

I have not given much thought to this, still in the idea stage. its just a matter of planning things out, the last one we had in dallas, I set it up with the dfw rx7/rx8 club and they had a blast. there are pics somewhere on this forum.
now its not a race, you dont need a fast car, and you dont even need to speed, its just a fun social event that involves a bit of driving.
what we need:
1. Need a good place to start, its best if it is right on the hwy (45). Restaurant with a patio works best, chat a little bit, get some food, ect.
2. Need a destination, restraunt/bar/club, more of a party type atmosphere.

if anyone has any suggestions, just go ahead and post them up, once there is a better idea, with locations in mind, I'll. Set it up on the cannonball board.

I read a good review about Pappasito's cantina on 15280 North Fwy. I 45. They also cater to large parties, or can handle large parties. Other then that, maybe saltgrass off of 45. Maybe we should have something quick at the start, not much to eat, since it has a tedancy to make people sleepy, and save it for something big at the end. Maybe the rainforest cafe on the seawall. Then just follow 45 the whole way for a nice scenic cruise. (Avoid the chemical plants on 146)

They are open pretty late and they have a very good attitude there. Usually. But I'm fine even with Ihop, which is right across the street. Can you tell I am in the mood for Ihop? The scene is pretty good there too.

I Have been to that IHOP many times, thats not exactly the scene we look for. needs to have a bar, the scene needs to be alive. I'll be down there this weekend, might check out a few spots

No no, the tortuga on the seawall in Galveston. Pretty good place to finish, since they have a bar and all. Other then that though, there is this place farther past the seawall that is a bar/grille, very good place to party, at least for galveston. I think it is called woodys? Or at least across from woodys.

I could probably help you with that, you'll need hosting and a domain name, plus it be would be good to know what functionality you want it to have. I built and manage texasrxs.org, it's got a forum and events calender and we use it to communicate to our new/curent/prospective members, I can also do simpler one page deals, I can do e-commerce stuff, it really all depends on what your needs are, just let me know what you would like to have and I can throw some ideas out there for you, another cheaper (as in free) alternative would be to set up a Yahoo group, we utilized that for a while and it worked great, but it's not really the same deal as having an entire website etc.

Maybe there was an IP ban on someone else that went sour? Either way it is something that an admin will have to look into. Next time, instead of making accusations about getting banned (unless you can think of a reason why you would have) maybe you should just ask someone what's goin on.:nono:

Site admins disabled posts in this (and other various sections of the site) because they felt there was a subversive amount of post-whoring going on, this was done before I was really even around. :angel:

Hey, as long as someone wants to be in the lead other than me, I will cannonball anywhere.

As far as cops are concerned,

1. 59 south seems to be cop free except Saturday and especially Sunday mourning.
2. 45 North is fairly cop free except right at the beltway.
3. 45 South like Rotary mentioned is cop city.
4. 10 West is cop free but you are bumper-to-bumper 24-7 on that freeway.
5. Beltway would be a horrible choice unless EVERYONE had EZ-tag
6. 610 loop would probably be a better choice except for the West side of town where the Galleria would be backed up and Bellaire section should handled with extreme caution (Bellaire Cops show for court 100%).
7. Hardy Tollroad has the EZ-tag problem AND is loaded with mentally retarded Harris County Constables. (Yes, they are retarded. They have to fail an IQ test for the job.)
8. 290 North is known to be fairly cop-free but I have no personal experience.
9. I know nothing about 59 North or I-10 East.

My choices would #2 (north of the Beltway), #6 and maybe #8.

45 S to Galveston does have a few cops, but not too bad. At least this time of year. I wouldn't mind going even farther, like a trip to San Antonio. But maybe that is out of the picture. Anyway, I'm in regardless. Let's get some more people involved, if possible.

well we were thinking in may or september haveing a "texas cannonball" start in San Antonio --> Houston --> Dallas --> Austin, with a drive each day, and a party in a different city each night. its mainly the guys from the dallas cannonball that want to do this, still trying to get a website up, so I can really kick this into gear

well if we start in houston, then we cant party in houston. I am guessing that some people will not make it for the San Antonio-->houston part of the run, because it will be on a friday, its likely that we pick up people in houston and Dallas.

check out my page at www.texasrxs.org, I can set you up something pretty similar in next to no time, it runs on a cms system called xoops, you can also check out other xoops sites at www.xoops.org. I can also do plain jane html type stuff as well, but I like xoops since it lets me have a forum,photo gallery, events calendar, etc etc. plus it's all database driven so I can control access/permissions to any single part of it. You'll need a host and a domain name, if any of this is greek let me know, I'll try and explain it better for you.
