View Full Version : Performance Driving School this year?
I've tried this once before and we didn't have enough interest to run this as a group event so I'm going to try it again.
The idea is simple: Register as a group with The Driver's Edge for a 2 day event at motorsports ranch in Cresson (20 minutes outside of FW).
If we have 10 or more participants we get 10% off of the class fee of 275.
Here's a list of the tracks and dates:
http://www.thedriversedge.net/02_tracks.htm
If you're interested in this, please respond here and or PM me with the dates.
If you know of any major conflicts with the dates on the calendar, please post them as well.
Make sure you read this as well.
The Driver’s Edge Cancellation Policy
Non-Transferable. Non-Refundable.
Credit towards another event will be issued in the following cases:
A) If you cancel 30 days before an event we will credit 100% of your entry fee towards another event.
B) If you cancel 29 - 15 days before an event we will credit 50% of your entry fee towards another event.
C) If you cancel 15 – 0 days before the event no credit will be issued.
Exception to the policy:
In case of B or C, if we have a participant on stand-by that can fill your spot you will receive 75% credit towards another event.
Note: Track events run in the rain or shine, rain is a very good learning tool.
BTW, everyone is welcome. If you have friends who want to go, invite them. As long as we have at least 10 confirmed people, we'll get the discount.

I would absolutely love to, but I have other financial obligations until summer 2007. :(?????????
Really??
Wow..
dazygirl415 01-30-2006, 04:42 PM ?????????
Really??
Wow..
Yep. I've decided to suffer and sacrifice for one whole year to save up for a nice down payment on a house. That means no sudden flights to Cali, living in the cheapest apartment I can find that's not in the ghetto, and no mods. :( BUT, it's only for one year and the end result will be well worth it!!

Then again.. I just need to make more money.
No mods? How will you survive?!

So no type of mods for a whole year, that will be tough.
AForce8 01-30-2006, 07:58 PM damn tiff...are you sure you can do it??
dazygirl415 01-30-2006, 08:17 PM lol, I'm not sure, but I'm going to try really hard.
jenkins-crew 01-31-2006, 09:35 AM LOL, you better not goto install partys.
I might be able to do the April 1-2.
aRX7-7-8 01-31-2006, 10:14 AM I am definitely interested; I was signed up for the RX7 club event there, which was cancelled for lack of interest. I know of at least one 3rd gen RX7 owner that is also interested. I recommend you get those guys in on the fun, and it will help us get to 10 people.
I'll have to check my calendar with the dates. Thanks for getting this underway!
I'm that 3rd gen RX-7 owner who is also interested! I was also signed up for a past event that got cancelled due to lack of interest. I'd prefer the April 1-2 event at Texas Motorsport Ranch since it won't be as hot as the July event and I certainly don't want to wait until the later events! However, I'll go when aRX7-7-8 goes...

April 1-2 is good for me as well.
Good to hear some people want to go.
jenkins-crew 01-31-2006, 12:50 PM I posted this on our team's forum as well so we might get a few more from there.
My boss wants to go too, as long as we dont make fun of him for owning a 2005 mustang GT :b
fasto 02-02-2006, 09:47 AM I'm interested (April 1-2). I emailed it to my roommate also (GTO 6.0).
8 is enough 02-02-2006, 07:47 PM I will go with April 1-2
I want to say I can go, Need to check my schedule first.
brillo 02-04-2006, 08:02 PM I'll be at the drivers edge at Texas World Speedway march 3-4th this year
aRX7-7-8 02-05-2006, 09:55 AM April 1-2 will not work for me. Anyone else want to try for one of the later dates?
(sigh)
Well, it looks like we have enough interest to do april 1-2 at least.
I'll contact the driver's edge today or tomorrow and see if they have room for a minimum of 10 people on that date.
We can schedule another one later in the year if there's enough desire to do so.

GhostRidr 02-07-2006, 04:31 PM I know the guys who own/run Apex Driving Academy (http://www.apexdrivingacademy.com) out at Motorsports Ranch. They have the best deal around that I've seen. Keith Verges (very active at the track, including in his turbo Miata) is one of the owners. I could get us a good deal probably (maybe as cheap as $150/day).
MisterMatt 02-13-2006, 10:44 PM count me in...contact me at 214 205 5711 so you can show me how to register to get the discount
-Matt
I'll have an update for you guys tomorrow.

i'm planning to visit my grandma in Plano sometime in spring, and may be able to squeeze in the 4/1-4/2 event if I can figure out my itinerary, and how many days I need to take off for the whole visit...
count me as 'possibly interested' for now lol
Just heard back at rick from the driver's edge:
Quick glance looks like we are 70% full at this time, so best thing to do is
have them sign up ASAP, so we can do our best to get them in...
Thanks,
Rick
So if we want to do this, we need to sign up ASAP.
Are we still in?

Yeah, I got an email late last month that Panoz Racing School has pulled out of the DFW market and their promotions person is now at Apex.

i'm still a highly 'maybe' for now....
Dunno about the discount. Probably not at this point.
MisterMatt 02-26-2006, 12:20 AM Let me know how much...my brother and I are interested...my rx7 is in the shop, so can a MINI Cooper S play with y'all?
ZoomZoomH 02-26-2006, 04:42 AM me no go for this one, probably doing the one locally in march :o:
RX8-TX 02-26-2006, 12:12 PM Fellas, me and a couple of friends are seriously thinking about signing up for a 5/13 track day with Apex @ Motorsports Ranch. Unfortunately, anything before that would be impossible for me. The wife and I've been kept very busy with work (and finally upcoming vacations!!!)
Anyways, for those who can't make it on 4/1-4/2, there will be at least one RX-8 (an Elise, an AllRoad & a VW GTI) signed up for Apex's 5/13 school. Hit me up if anyone's got any interest.

If you did, please post here.
I don't care when we go or who's school we go to, i just want to go.
BigOLundh 03-01-2006, 01:22 AM Ajax,
I'm sending you a PM about a one day event.
Didn't want to post it on here and hijack the thread. Hope the DE works out, sounds like its gonna be real good.
Let me know what you think

aRX7-7-8 03-01-2006, 06:18 PM At Motorsports Ranch, Apex runs one-day events for about $200, and Driver's Edge runs two-day events for about $275. DE seems like the price/performance leader. Does anyone have direct experience with either of these schools?
I couldn't make the April 1-2 event, but really want to make it out there soon!

Yes, I know both of the owners. Good guys, good drivers. One owner, John H., is a good friend of mine from the Pantera club. Their price of $195/day is cheap track time.
ApexDriving 03-02-2006, 12:12 PM Please allow me to introduce myself,
I am John Holmes (yes I share the same name as a 70s movie star, If you have any new John Holmes jokes let me know) and I am a co-owner of Apex Driving Academy.
I encourage everyone to go the a High Performance Driving school. In TX we are spoiled with many great tracks and many great schools. Please go to one.
Only you can decide what school and track are right for you, your time, and hard earned money.
At Apex we stress safety and seat time. We run a one day class for those folks that can not dedicate a whole weekend to the track.
At MSR Cresson is the safest track I have ever been on. The first (17. mile) track has nothing to hit and plenty of run off area. The new (1.3 mile) track does have barriers. We as school owners will be driving the new track at speed soon and will decide what type of school if any we can hold on the new track.

New Students
1. You will alternate from classroom (25 mins sessions) to on track activities.
In the morning you will do on track drills (slalom, threshold breaking) and
lead follow sessions to learn the "line".
2. In the afternoon you will get 4 (20 min) sessions.
Advanced Students
1. Classroom and 7-8 (20 mins) session.
Apex can offer a group of 15 a Monday-Thursday at MSRC for $150 (per student). This must be prepaid. If someone would like to coordinate this I will work with them.
I will follow this thread and answer questions as they come up. You can also check our website. Our site is getting a much needed face lift and I apologize if you hit it during this process.
Respectfully,
John

ApexDriving 03-06-2006, 07:18 PM I killed this thread?
BigOLundh 03-06-2006, 09:17 PM Yes, hehe.
Actually, I plan on attending the Apex Driving School at the beginning of April, but I doubt I can put together a list of 15 people for the discount.

You may want to plan on March 18th or our May date. We may lose our April dates as the new track is not complete and there needs to be some adjustments made to it.
The track owner protects member days very well. As a member I appreciate this as a driving school owner it is tuff to loose dates.
When the second track is complete we will all the dates we need.
Thanks in advance for everyones understanding in this.

The Thread Killer!
bluesunlion 03-07-2006, 03:20 PM John,
Random Noob question for someone who hasn't been to a driving school, but really wants to go to one. (I did get to be a passenger in a Panoz GT RA on the infield roadcourse at TMS, if that counts)
Helmets: Do we have to have one? If so, are there rentals or something provided?
Suppose I have two cars I want to learn in. (8 and Miata) Is that a problem, or would it be better to schedule two separate days? The spouse and I were considering doing a day together, and switching off cars.

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you.
You can rent a helmet for $10.
There will be no problem with you changing cars in the afternoon sessions.
May 13 and June 18th are our next track days.
