View Full Version : First decent shots of the new car
Well, I got tired of waiting for the weather to be nice to take some pics with my new wheels, so I found the first lit parking lot and snapped some shots. Not great but it'll do for now.

Mikelikes2drive 01-29-2006, 03:06 AM looks good. one of the few decent lookin evos out there.
Sportura_Collection 01-29-2006, 03:31 AM Looks like hell, especially in blue. That lame blue (some blues are not lame) makes it look like a Matchbox toy. Didn't you use to make fun of ricers?

djgiron 01-29-2006, 03:46 AM Is this the same person as IkeWRX, and if so, did I miss something?
Raptor2k 01-29-2006, 03:56 AM Yea, you missed his religious conversion.

So which banned and reregistered member might you be? I wonder how long before you get banned this time...
Sportura_Collection 01-29-2006, 04:10 AM Hey, it's just my opinion. I think you do like to give your own opinions here? don't take it personally
i don't like that car.

It's alright TyrellCorpNexus8 (among other alias) I don't expect everyone to like it, you'll be banned soon anyhow.
Sportura_Collection 01-29-2006, 04:13 AM Do you agree that it looks rice? everyone awaits your unbiased answer

No Reactionary, I don't think it's rice.
Hornet 01-29-2006, 05:41 AM You gotta get some pics during the day when the weather is clear Ike! "Blue By You" is one of my favorite colors on the Evo...there is just something about the carbon fiber on the wing and that Blue!
btw...what model year is that?
adrian-1 01-29-2006, 06:39 AM I don't like it either. You should have stuck with the scooby. Go visit the evo-forum and maybe someone there will dig it.
Didn't you post this a few weeks ago?
I jumped ship tonight... It's got a ricer wing, pretty blue ricer guages, well lets just say it's totally rice. But it makes you do this :Eyecrazy: when you take a turn fast or step on the gas. Now I just need to order some more ricer mods! So long Subaru, you served me well!
:slap:
By the way, I didn't say it was rice.... you did. :ban:

Not being a smartass, but what made you switch to Mitsu? By the way I have my eyes set on the Evo XO, which I might get. :yumyum: The only thing that scares it Mitsu itself.
Backup7 01-29-2006, 10:13 AM Nice, Ike
playdoh43 01-29-2006, 12:16 PM nice pics Ike, one of the meanest looking cars out there. what kind of rims are those?
you need to get some Zaino dude, they work wonders.
Posted it but they were even worse shots while it was in the garage. Don't worry I'll punish you with even more shots once it's a sunny day ;) Why do you think I should have stuck with the Scooby, because that's what you like better looks wise? Performance wise they just don't compare. I can run 12 sec 1/4 miles (we'll see for sure when it warms up ), drive it in the snow, do track days, and I still have a warranty; I'm happy!

Digital_Damage 01-29-2006, 01:47 PM I'm not sure I understand... so this is a RX8 forum, and you harp about how superior a WRX is to the world and then you get a Mistu. Then when someone disagrees with you, you want them banned?
How old are you 12?
Go to an EVO forum and get the ego swell you are looking for, you just won’t get it here.
Oh ya and to stay on topic… the blue looks like ass.

See my above post... I'm not much of a Mitsubishi fan myself, they're a pretty pitiful car company that manages to make one brilliant car. I'm lucky enough to have a very mod friendly dealer, they even installed the TBE, intake, and some other mods. I wanted over 300whp from my daily driver, and that wasn't happening from the WRX unless I upgraded a lot of things, with the Evo it's cheap and easy. Even with an STI I would have had to worry about things like upgrading the fuel, turbo, and intercooler once I got to a little over 300whp. Lastly, the handling on the Evo is just a little better and sharper than the STI.

Like I always say with these type of posts, show me where I've said once the Subaru was such a superior car, especially in relation to an Evo.
I don't want Sportura banned because of anything he has said in this thread, in fact I could care less if he's banned. However it will most likely happen sooner or later since he's already been banned with at least two other user names (Tyrellcorp, Reactionary). Take a look at some of his posts over the last month and you'll realize why I said he would be banned soon, I'm shocked a mod hasn't banned him already.
I'm not looking for an "ego swell", just sharing my car with a community that I like and have been a part of for a long time, far longer than yourself in fact. Other members asked for more pics, so I put some up. I'll be putting more up on this thread in the future, so if you don't want to see my ugly blue car don't continue to open this thread.
RedSheDevil 01-29-2006, 02:40 PM me likey!!! cant wait to see the blue in the sun ............. :D:
BlueEyes 01-29-2006, 02:51 PM Looks hot man. Bring it to Canada sometime!
whiterex 01-29-2006, 02:55 PM FWIW an evo took FTD at our autox yesterday. The car looks good...
No offense, but those black rims are not doing it for me. It looks like it the car's hubcaps fell off.
Maybe a polished lip on black wheels?

Flat/Matte black wheels are certainly not everyone's cup of tea. In fact I've never even considered them for any other car I've owned. Had I ended up with an STI I wouldn't have considered them and would have gotten gold or bronze. To me the simple black wheels just fit the Evo, I seriously considered some wheels with the polished lip and a gloss black but they were just a little too blingy for the look I was going for.

I like they way you explained it. I'm surprised that the EVO handles better. You would think that a AWD/RWD combo would perform better over the AWD/FWD based. I do value your opinion, you tell like it is. I can't wait for the EVO X, I hope I'm not let down..
RedSheDevil 01-29-2006, 11:11 PM ^ tried to convince him to get the polished lip ...
SlowLude 01-29-2006, 11:36 PM I like Evo's.. too bad they don't have them in Canada. :( But I'm also not a big fan of that blue... maybe its the light or something. I like deep, dark blues. Even the winning blue is not as deep as I'd like it to be. But nonetheless, its a beeauutiful car. Have fun with it!

Unfortunately it will be harder for you but honestly I don't think pictures ever do the "Blue By You" justice! It's something you have to see up close and personal! Until I actually saw one I thought it was the most Gawd Awful color ever made available on any car. When I saw it in real life I wanted one that color! A little off of the topic of Ike's Evo but I don't know how many of you have ever had a chance to see the Tarmac Black Evos up close but the paint has little blue and purple metallic flakes in it. I have never seen that in any other black cars (or maybe I've just never noticed it).
Chrisbert 01-30-2006, 07:13 AM I thought Subaru was more warranty friendly than Mitsu; is it just your dealership that give you warranty confidence?
Red Devil 01-30-2006, 11:01 AM Nice Ike. You should meet some of us from the Chicago group up at Road America in April.
Oh, also sent you a pm...
RedSheDevil 01-30-2006, 11:13 AM ^ dont let him charge you any dues!!!
RENESIS_NEENJA 01-30-2006, 11:51 AM I think it's a beautiful machine.. i woulda went with some rims with a chrome lip though.. but still a awesome car! thanks for sharing! :beerchug:
Nice upgrade Ike. I hate the looks of the wing, but I can respect its purpose.
Day shots would be nice.

Prettymuch. Though I think 9/10 dealerships, regardless of make, would laugh at me if I wanted warranty with the mods I have. In general Subaru dealerships are better than Mitsubishi in my experience.
Red Devil, I just might be there and you have a PM back :)

I don't hate the wing, nor do I love it. I will say that Evos without it look odd to me and I think it looks best with it. The STI on the other hand I could go either way, I like it with and without.
RX-GR8 01-30-2006, 02:11 PM like it ike. i had a mitsu a 97 eclipse gsx. great car only problem i had with it was it didn't like mobil gas. ate 2 fuel pumps. good luck with her.
RotoRocket 01-30-2006, 02:24 PM That wing just doesn't work on that car, despite Mitsu's insistence that it has a functional role to play.
But it's not my car...and YMMV.
Very nice ride !
I'd lose the wing myself
allmotorRX8 01-30-2006, 05:36 PM the evo is nice, that blue is nice too
but on the third attached picture of the second set of pics
the one with the lights, that one looks like a toy car
zoom44 01-30-2006, 06:07 PM gotta say it:D:

I said decent :nono: It's been raining, snowing, gloomy here nonstop so I got fedup and went and found the first lit parking lot late on a rainy foggy night. Plus I suck at using my digital cam, I'm pretty good with my SLR but when it comes time to use my digital in anything but good light I suck :(

That was from my uber phtoshop skills ;) I had the screwy shot with the lights going crazy so I decided to mess with it and I made it look worse and accidentally replaced the original with that...
Terrance26 01-30-2006, 07:06 PM I don't like the wheels or that color on a evo.
NICE!
I love evo's i was Planning on getting one myself! sometimes i think to myself why i didnt... :icon_no2:
LNWLF 01-30-2006, 08:43 PM I never would have thought black wheels would look good on that color...but it does :worship:
I don't know whether to wait for a MS RX8, or get the Evo IX (or X)...
vectorwolf 01-30-2006, 08:52 PM Nice car. But yeah, I have to agree that the wheels aren't good. If you had some standard silver wheels (whatever they call that finish? Like our stock wheels have...) it would look VERY nice. Congrats again on the purchase!

Already have the stock Enkeis in "that finish". I was going to use them for trackdays but now that I see the inside edge of the tires I'm considering picking up another set of Bronze or Gunmetal wheels for summer/trackdays since these wheels have my allseasons on em. Regardless, I still like the matte black wheels on the car, to each their own.
saturn 02-01-2006, 12:32 AM I do like that color, but it wouldn't be my favorite for the Evo. It's definately different which is a big plus, though. I personally don't like the black wheels against that body color -- looks like you're running 4 spare tires. A few chrome accents on the body and some brushed aluminum rims or something like the stock RX-8 rims would really look nice IMO. Keep the wing -- Evo's look weird without them.
Awesome car in general though. Try not to smoke every RX-8 you see. If we ever hear a "kill story" about an RX-8 beating a blue Evo we'll know it was you being generous.
nolarx8 02-01-2006, 12:52 AM did you steal a camera ike?

White would have been my first choice, blue/black was my second choice. At night it does kinda look like I've got 4 steel wheels on it unless you get a closer look or I'm cruising at highway speed. I was going for a mean understated look, I feel like I accomplished that but others will certainly have a different view. Don't worry, I'm nice to RX-8s unless provoked
RX-GR8 02-01-2006, 01:33 AM the black wheels don't work for me especially on a dark car. too each his own though. enjoy.

Design1stCode2nd 02-01-2006, 12:52 PM Ike, How will the Evo or an STi handle in the snow? Are all seasons enough or is it best to go with winter tires?
velociti 02-01-2006, 01:00 PM damn that's an ugly looking car...fast though i bet. and great looking color. congrats and enjoy.
BlueEyes 02-01-2006, 01:34 PM Ike, I need a ride to the beer store.
hey ike i dont think you've answered yet, what kinda wheels are those??? they're hot and they look light as hell. (weights?)
Black Racing (forgetting the model) and they weigh about 20lbs for 17x9, not as light as some but still pretty good and they're the perfect offset for the Evo without having to worry about rolling the fenders with 255 tires and a lowered car.
Ike, How will the Evo or an STi handle in the snow? Are all seasons enough or is it best to go with winter tires?
Very well as long as you don't use summer tires. I'm using ultra high performance all seasons any they're pretty good in the snow. Unless you get a lot of deep snow and streets aren't cleared very fast I wouldn't suggest anything else since you get a tires that performs well in all conditions. I may even do a trackday or two with these tires.
Shinka_518 02-01-2006, 02:23 PM Hey man....nice ride. I know the Mitsu models but can't tell the IX from the MR. Which is yours? Excuse my ignorance. I drove an STi and the EVO IX....the turbos made them feel a bit drained to me. But man I'm ALWAYS a big supporter of anyone getting a new toy...I mean car....I don't think its fair for people to compare the Evo or STi with an RX-8 though. Totally different breeds....I know that you bought what you wanted...so continue to roll.
You're still a brother of 8 owners....you just got an extended family now.
518!

Mine is an Evo VIII GSR which is between the RS (stripped down model) and the MR (which has bilsteins as the main difference). The main difference between the 8 and the 9 is the 9 has Mivec (variable valve timing) and puts down a little more power. The main reason I got the VIII is because I didn't want to be backwards on the car when the Evo X and new generation STI is released, I also like the loosk for the VIII better. So I thought I'd save a little money and wait and see what happens in a couple years.
Shinka_518 02-01-2006, 10:49 PM Cool man...I was thinking what it would take to actually get me out of my 8...The only thing right now is the Cayman S....and that would take quite a bit of dealing. Like I'd have to be able to pay for 75% of it upfront or something insane.
Enjoy the miles man...
518!
Hornet 02-02-2006, 07:58 AM That wing just doesn't work on that car, despite Mitsu's insistence that it has a functional role to play.
But it's not my car...and YMMV.
While I had my Evo some jackass(es) ripped the wing off. I'm going to tell you from experience the car does feel a little different when you get up in speed (I'm not going to say how far up). It may be a minor difference but it makes a difference. Look at the design of it (the carbon fiber part)! It is designed like airplane wing...kind of a tear drop shape that is curved to push air flow up which would have an effect of pushing the rear end down. It may seem like marketing but that car might be one of the most purpose built designs at that price range.
Roaddemon 02-02-2006, 11:00 AM Congrats to the proud new owner. Your like a father with his first newborn. Blue is sexy on the rx8 but just alright on the EVO. Have fun with the new toy.
Blow the doors off those Mustangs and leave the 8's alone as we are a happy bunch and don't care about drag racing.
rx-cars_rock 02-02-2006, 04:55 PM I like the car and I like most blues, but I'm not crazy about that one. (I would have jumped ship to the EVO if I had a WRX.) And I'm going to call you Shaky McGee with those blurry pictures of yours =P
cleoent 02-02-2006, 05:42 PM That blue is yucky, but i do respect the car... a lot.
spork 02-03-2006, 12:27 PM i love the new evo look.
personally i think it looks better than the old evo and the sti/wrx by far.
dwill9578 03-02-2006, 08:44 PM I think it looks great, the rims are a nice touch. If it was black with those rims I think that would be a true stealth fighter...impressive ride Ike.
Rx-A-Ho 03-02-2006, 10:37 PM Nice shopping cart handle on the back!!!
Seriously. Grats. Nice car. I know that will be a lot of fun to drive.
