View Full Version : Drowning in a sea of ignorance...
marvin_rock 01-17-2006, 01:56 PM So there I am on 90% of the other forums that I browse around, and I always come back here, well because my yellow 8 is my dream car for the past couple of years and I just bought it. This post, although I'm sure there are people with more or less posts than me will fight to the death, is just to say I'm glad here on the rx8club.com forum people have decent amounts of common sense.
In my months of lurking around (don't post much because I'm not all that smart when it comes to cars, but I'm learning) the forums I've noticed the people here use puncuation, and spell out their words, and use "your" and "you're" properly. That makes me happy. So congrats to all the moderators or whoever it is that makes it happen. Hell maybe it's Mazda for making a high class car with high class buyers... everyone pat yourself on the back.
Not having a Kill section is brilliant in my opinion. My older car is a 2000 Ford Escort Zx2 (s/r edition for anyone in the know or who give a damn) and I was always on the Z forum and it seemed that the biggest section was the "I Pwn3d a f'n n00blet Civic with my SUpah Escort Pimped out mackdaddy edition 3.0 goin down hwy 13 yesterday - did u c it!?!?!?!?!?!?!!?!?!?!?!!?!?" And it drove me apeshit.
I'm sure someone would say this forum sucks because they were met with hostility for asking something along the lines of gas mileage/HP/350z vs. Rx8/other dipshit question. And I'm sure someone gave them a great tutorial on how to use the search button. I'm sure MY first couple of posts I was flamed, and rightfully so. But after being here a good few months and killing many hours reading stuff that is completely useless to my life (how to install Lambo doors or something I KNOW I will never do) I must say this is a pretty kickass crowd.
So yeah, to everyone in excess of like 1,000 posts or something, you kick ass! There, I'm done kissin' ass I'm just in a good mood because I finish up my yearlong tour in Iraq in 2 weeks.
guy321 01-17-2006, 02:07 PM Thanks (I have a little bit more than 1000 posts) ! And thanks for serving!
I'm glad someone appreciates proper grammar and spelling!
* If they counted lounge posts, I should be in the 5 - 10k range. LOL
RedSheDevil 01-17-2006, 02:12 PM Ditto on the Thanks for Serving part!
Geez, guess I have to bring out the proper punctuation and spelling for this post ... man! Hey, I even capitalized words for you too!! Congrats on getting the 8!
Now I must go postwhore more so I can actually join the ranks of 1K post-whoring status!
Razpewton 01-17-2006, 02:15 PM Thanks for your service. I did 20 myself.
And thanks for appropriately naming this thread. :wiggle:
Xtasy94 01-17-2006, 02:18 PM Thanks also for your service. You're a braver man than I am. Is the U.S. media liberal biased and full of shit or are they accurate? What's your take on Iraq?
Jedi54 01-17-2006, 02:25 PM First off: Thanks for serving our country!
Congrats on getting that yellow RX-8, you won't regret your decision.
"I Pwn3d a f'n n00blet Civic with my SUpah Escort Pimped out mackdaddy edition 3.0 goin down hwy 13 yesterday - did u c it!?!?!?!?!?!?!!?!?!?!?!!?!?"
One of the greatest lines ever.
*Also off to post whore*... Can't let RSD beat me to 1,000. :wiggle:
8is>enuff 01-17-2006, 02:49 PM Good post. Thanks for serving for all of us. Better you than me - anything over 100degrees and I'm not a happy camper. :)
There are quite a number of well educated people on here willing to help. Alas, a quick search for "bumber" will highlight the fact that not everybody payed attention in English class. :icon_no2:
English as a second language people are exempt.
Luftwaffle 01-17-2006, 03:03 PM May I correct the grammar mistakes?
RedSheDevil 01-17-2006, 03:05 PM Thanks for your service. I did 20 myself.

Whose, mine??? :wiggle:
Luftwaffle 01-17-2006, 05:26 PM Everyone's! :D:
I got this new grammar book. I'm psyched to put it into good use.
marvin_rock 01-18-2006, 12:41 AM Hell luft you're more than welcome to correct the grammar, if I don't type it out in MSWord it all goes to hell. And that post was definitely NOT typed in word, and I was half asleep. So you could probably destroy my post.
To everyone who said thanks for the service, ...it's a job. No seriously though, my hope is to become a recruiter to prevent mouth-breathers from finding their way into the military. I have yet to meet a mouth breather that didn't exxagerate on the flavor of windows on the short bus on their way to school every morning.
"Is the U.S. media liberal biased and full of shit or are they accurate? What's your take on Iraq?" [editors note - I don't know HTML for sh!t either, so sorry.]
That's a rigid question, I'm going to leave it at they are hungry for stories. It wouldn't surprise me that they get better ratings by leaving people biting their nails wondering if thier significat other/sibling/child/parent is alive or dead over here. I was home on leave in November when we lost 10 guys in one attack and I'm walking through the base exchange with my fiancee and we both see this. Needless to say she did NOT want to take me to the airport to come back out here. The media is the media. I personally don't watch the news anymore (quote from 2-3 weeks ago - "we have a new pope!? What the hell happened to the last one")
My take on Iraq however is quite different than most especially being over here for so long. When I first got here last march (couple of months after the push to take over Fallujah) I used to go out in the city quite often and the place was an atrocity. Just debris everywhere, no sign of civilization. Then I didn't go out there for a couple of months and just a few weeks ago I got tasked to go out into the city again. This time it was totally different, there was a bustling market, people were rebuilding their homes, Iraqi police were patrolling the streets (some acting as stoplights and such) etc. etc. etc. So in just a few months this place went from ghost town to getting back on it's feet with our help. Do we still get attacked. Yes. Do they still make training videos of sniping my friends, yes. Do I still want the whole country bombed... depends on the day. So moral of the story, if this much has happened here in Fallujah, I'm sure progress is going on all over the country.
We've been here for what, 3 years now and they are just now ratifying a constitution and electing offficials. That's pretty damn quick. I don't know the dates off the top of my head but when did we claim independance/write a constitution/free ourselves officialy from england/civil war/etc. I know from the time we got here to the time we were official ourselves was 89 years. These guys are moving right along at a good pace. Just everyone keep doing what they are doing and supporting the troops and taking their own opinion on whether or not they agree with the war.
wow... that was one hell of a rant. Sorry.

This was a nice read. Thanks for your service and glad to hear you'll be back in the US soon. :)
djgiron 01-18-2006, 04:59 AM Man you are going to beat me back by about 3 months! Be safe and have a safe trip back for sure. I pretty much agree with everything you said about this crapho . . . um place, some days you hope it is nuked off the planet, othertimes it just makes you smile proudly that you are apart of it. Anyway, enjoy your car when you get home!

I stayed up way too late last night watching cartoons. I think I'll just putz around the lounge for now. :wiggle:

Good read, thanks for being honest with the details. I think the problem with the media today is that it's turned the Iraq war into another episode of 24. I suspect most of the people here are more curious to find out the real truth and it's always better to hear it from someone who is living/experiencing what we watch on TV.

bascho 01-18-2006, 09:58 AM Thanks for your service. I myself do not agree for our government's reasons for being in Iraq.....but my support for the troops is unwavering. You guys do a job that most are too cowardly to perform (myself included). A tour of duty is a self-less act and I hope that all the troops know that even if the popular vote does not agree with the reasons for the war, all Americans care about and appreciate the service men and women fighting it.
Cool-Blue-Dad 01-18-2006, 05:36 PM I personally don't watch the news anymore (quote from 2-3 weeks ago - "we have a new pope!? What the hell happened to the last one")Hahahaha! That's awesome!
I don't watch the news anymore either - no cable, no newspaper, no more Google News and I avoid it on the radio. Used to be a news-junky, but then I realized it was all bad (or at least disproportionately). That seemed wrong because *most* days nothing bad happens to me. Often, several good things happen. Therefore, my previous news sources must have been presenting a warped and distorted point of view :spank: so I cast them out.
Another 'thanks for your service' from me.
Also, thanks for appreciating proper grammer, punctuation and best efforts at spelling. I don't care for kill stories either, but my #1 pet peeve is the 'd00d stoopid rulz no matter' attitude from folks who think they are TXT messaging between two 1998 cell phones with 8 character displays. My wife and I use caps and punctuation in our text messages between our Treo600 and Treo650 because there is plenty of room and it's just sooooo much more readable.
Photic 01-18-2006, 05:48 PM HAHAHA!! LOLWTFBBQ!#@$@
SHUTUP I HACK YOU#%

Good post :mdrmed:
gonnahanvan8 01-18-2006, 06:12 PM I get all my news from this site. :djcelebra :tank:  :beerchug:

No one makes this happen. Its just the people that are on here. Even people like me that cant spell for sh!t. I still get love  And thats due to the fact that people understand what your getting at and try to help you. They see beyond that fact and to me thats what makes it all worth its wild. :ylsuper:

marvin_rock 04-26-2006, 05:01 AM Who are you kidding Dominion, everyone loves you because of your signature!
Photic 04-26-2006, 10:51 AM It looks like the Asian girl is saying "I'm on a bus" over and over and over..
It took me a while to figure that one out because I was focused elsewhere. I would get distracted easily.
marvin_rock 04-26-2006, 11:14 AM She's totally on a bus. HA!
Photic 04-26-2006, 11:18 AM I would let her ride my beef bus. No charge.
RedSheDevil 04-26-2006, 12:46 PM I would let her ride my beef bus. No charge.
^ that's because you use your erection as a lasso!
Photic 04-26-2006, 12:58 PM ding ding! we have a winnah! ;) hahaha.
I agree with you. I am a mod on a hip-hop/lifestyle forum w/ 90,000+ members and let me tell you, the lack of common sense is incredible. It is not even fun anymore. My first posts here were smooth as well, no flaming [although I only asked one dumb question - see the "what is a demo car" thread owwwwwwwwwwww] everyone here has been real nice and accommodating.
Although we all do share a VERY common interest.
saturn 04-26-2006, 02:12 PM My favorite part of the original post is how he said that people here use "your" and "you're" properly. It reminds me of the thread a few weeks ago where someone said "your is slang for you're" when they got caught using "your" incorrectly.
