I got to test drive a RX-8 and Evo yesterday.

RX-8:
Very smooth tranny, shifts, and clutch. The engine really purrs. Steering and handling are incredibly precise. I think some of the interior parts are average, but the gauges are very nice. I would prefer more headroom and more trunk space. I have also driven a G35 Coupe, and between the two I think I would pick the G35 Coupe because it is more luxurious and I like the exterior looks a bit better than the RX8.

Evo:
I had to lie to test drive. I acted like I was going to trade in my M3. The salesman thought my car had a V6 Turbo. He didn't understand that BMWs are NA, and the only car that has forced induction is the Cooper S. He said "I don't see any BMW badges on the Mini..." Anyways, he started out at $8500 for my car for a trade in. I told him I'll sell it on my own. After 30 min. of discussions, I got it up to $16k. I would still rather have my car, and I want to pay it off before I get rid of it.
The steering wheel was shaking at idle, and the salesman couldn't explain why. He said "It's a rally car...Have you ever owned one..." I said that the steering wheel shouldn't be shaking on a brand new car. I thought that the steering was more precise on the RX-8.
I felt like I was flying above 5K rpms. I didn't get to push the RX-8 because I was on small roads, and there was traffic. I didn't rev it up above 5k rpms, and didn't go above 50 mph. I revved up the Evo up to redline, and got up to 70 mph. So, I couldn't really tell the difference between the two in terms of straightline acceleration.

Conclusion:
Both cars are great for the price, but I wouldn't buy either. I like my M3 (100,000 miles) more. I would pick a used S4 or a G35 Coupe over both just because I enjoy luxury more than speed. Between the two, I would pick the Evo, because there is more headroom and trunk space, and because it's faster straightline.

How can you accurately compare 4 vehicles with such blatantly different purposes?

So - you couldn't tell the difference between the two in terms of straightline acceleration, but you'd pick the EVO because it's faster straightline. You enjoy luxury more than speed, so you'd pick the EVO with the econobox interior over the more luxurious RX-8 interior because the EVO is faster, although you couldn't tell which is faster. That about sum it up? :p

Hey, the Evo has a better interior than the RX-8, in my opinion.
As for relevance, it is in the same price range, the same gas mileage and the same level
of sporting interest ... again, IMHO.

That said, I bought the RX-8, though the Evo was a close second, especially on the days I need to fill the gas tank (16mpg).

For me they were both 4-seater sports-tuned cars with a practical bent.

...

With an opening statement like this I find it hard to take the rest of this post seriously.

Evo interior is crap, not my "HO" but a fact, except for the front seats.

I drove both and I think the evo8 feels cheap in the driving and the styling. plus only people that are into performance know what the evo8 is capable of, most people think its a lancer with a blazing 120hp! woo woo!
