The Method:
Once the member pays, I will fulfill the order and ship 1st Class / Delivery Confirmation (2/3 Days Delivery - so says USPS).

The Product:
The Radio Knob is a direct snap-on replacement. It requires no tools and takes less than 5 minutes from start to finish. The back-light holes shown in the night images are being light from the radio units lighting and therefore; NO WIREING is required.

Correctly yes... The 1st image is the new stick on decal. The following 3 images are the old decal. There were posted to show how the knob looks mounted in place on the radio.
I will photochop those images to have the correct look.

Painting the non Rotor edges does look good too. If you did that to yours... why don't you go ahead and post the materials you used to complete the Job or a link to the DIY?
I have no objections and see no reason for you to delete your post.

To answer RL8's Question:
The Knob has Mylar/Epoxy filled holes and the illumination is the back light from the radio lighting so there is NO WIREING required. The whole install takes less than 5 minutes!

Pull OEM Stock knob off.
Rotor knob comes with its own "D" ring supplied in bag.
Position Decal on knob.
Place "D" ring in knob shaft recess.
Push new knob on radio pin shaft.
Use steering wheel controls so you don't have to twist the rotor upside down!:)

The only reason I mentioned the other site is because there are almost 25 purchases over there and I am ready to get my knob so I hoped some people would go there to sign up so the first delivery would ship. I didn't mean to offend anyone.

Out of fairness to everyone, and if Omicron will Authorize, I will combine the total count for required hits to make the GB go forward. If we do this please do not double post. One post in one or the other.

We will keep the GB's separate for respects sake, but we will manage the numbers internally.

This is a good idea........I would like Black also if there is a choice. If not that's cool too. I could always have my own decal made at a vinyl shop.....with Shinka written in Japanese.

Just to clear some things up... The $25 shipped/done is a Flat rate. Canadian orders will fall in this flat rate. I have already mailed one to the UK and the cost was well within the expected shipping cost as well.
I was noting that if one was to be mailed to Australia or Japan, I just need to confirm that the mailing rate was still within margin.

The knob only comes with the 2 decals shown here...
I'm with you on the CF thing, I do not really care for the CF look myself, but trust me when I say these knobs look great and the CF like Decal does not scream :Rice: or look outta place with the rest of the Piano Black moldings. It is your call though.

Update:
OK, I hate to do this, but feel it is necessary to keep everyone up-to-date on what is going on.
I got my shipment today and found that Pettit only shipped me 28 Knobs and invoiced me for 30?!?!
I ordered 100 and was told by Jeff @ Pettit that they would try to send 50-75 and would probably need to CNC cut the rest as they needed stock on hand. That would have been plenty to handle all the expected orders that were currently placed.
Jeff is going to get back to me ASAP to see what the deal is and let me know when I can get the rest. He said he was going to try and have some more sent, so I am hoping by the middle of next week and ship the rest out or at least the majority of paid orders then.
For the record this GB was way more successful than I thought it would be and Pettit just did not have enough stock for my overwhelming order.
For now I am going to ship the 1st 28 paid orders. If members would please confirm that they received them, I would be most grateful. I printed up shipping labels for almost everyone that has paid, but not all will be in this 1st shipping.
If anyone feels uncomfortable with this news you can contact Jeff @ Pettit Racing (954-563-6064) or visit www.PettitRacing.com and grab the sales number from there to confirm these events. Please only do so If you really feel the need to verify my claim. I don't want to burn out a vendor that we could possibly use for another GB.

I stand behind this GB 100% and if anyone for any reason wants their Payment refunded until I have the rest to ship, just PM me and I will be happy to do so. Please know that my name staying in good standing is VERY Important to me, so give me a chance to make things right before making any negative assumptions.

I did not receive a tracking number for the rest of the knobs today and by the time I checked my email to look, it was already after 7 so Bob in shipping was gone. I sent an email and will update everyone on the status tomorrow.
As soon as I know exactly when I can expect the rest of the knobs, I will begin creating shipping labels again.
Canadian Members will not get email tracking as USPS does not offer it. I need to manually print out labels and hand deliver to the post office with the customs form. These are Gifts... Just so you know!

Look at the first page of this thread... truemagellen posted a photochop of it about half way down the page. And yes, the edge lights do light up and look kick ass :ylsuper:

There are three holes on the outer Apex that are backlight from the radio lights. Yes they are too cool and no wireing is needed!:)
Also don't forget about the "D" ring that is hidden under the stickers in the top part of the bag!

Just Pinch it with your thumbs and pointing fingers, squeeze tight and pull.... It will slide off. You may need to wiggle it a bit too.

I could throw the suggestion out there.
I guess you could make your own decal too. It is not that complicated of a decal. You could even have a batch made for your local 8 club or something like that.
I am not the manufacture, so we take what they offer. Maybe you could have PoLak make a custom decal for em'?

A few questions with possible answers...
Did you use the supplied "d" ring that was in the top portion of the bag?
If no and the bag is long gone... You can pull the one out of the OEM knob.
make sure you push either "d" ring deep into the shaft cavity of the Rotor Knob. I used a pair of needle nose pliers with the knob held in my hand not to scratch the face.
Do NOT be fearful to use a good amount of pressure to insert the knob on the control shaft. The top of the base should fit flush with the radio's face plate surface. Just make sure you have the "d" ring aligned properly with the shaft before you start jamming it on.

As for the Pins under the knob.... I do not really know. My best guess is it is a diagnostic tool for the LED display, but that is only a wild guess!

I just got an email back from Bob @ Pettit and the knobs are in!!! they are shipping out to me today, so I should have them by late Thursday. I will ship all of the remaining Paid and Confirmed orders out Friday. I will begin creating shipping labels now for a Friday mailing.

Thanks for the info, Dan. I used a fair amount of pressure to push the knob onto the shaft and it slid right on, just like it was supposed to. all of you others, get your minds out of the gutter. :mdrmed:

Received mine today, installed in seconds. I didn't notice the "d" ring in the upper part of the bag so I just used the one from the OEM knob. It looks great, we love it.

I just got home to find my knob.. sounds funny.. I'll have to get it installed tonight.

I'm also still considering the black-back mod before putting it on, and maybe a different center-fill, decal or paint. Just Pinch it with your thumbs and pointing fingers, squeeze tight and pull.... It will slide off. You may need to wiggle it a bit too.

i had a little trouble at first too pulling it off. there's no trick to it, but get a better grip and pull. if you still can't get a grip, i would suggest a towel and a plumber's wrench to pull it off.

Does anyone have any thoughts on the best way to black out the background of the knob, as previously displayed in the photoshopped images?

yea i dont really like the carbon fiber look in the center either, but the knobe looks really good. i think it would be great if the middle would be piano black or real carbon fiber. so i think i would either paint the middle part black which will match the interior panel of the car or insert a small sheet of real carbon fiber in there. but the problem is that the RX8 logo would be gone. so ill see when i receive the knobe.

Check it out... I did this in MS Paint! :wiggle: haha, anyway... here's the non-rotor bits "covered" in piano-blackish pixels. I may just have to do this. I'm fine with the faux carbon fiber though...

The most important thing is to lay down some primer before putting down color.

I did mine but sadly forgot to put primer down :tear: it'll chip no matter what type of paint is used (except powder coating, but 400 degrees is probably too much for the plastic inserts that the light is directed through).

Second thing is to tape off the middle so the plastic inserts don't get discolored.

cant wait till i get mine so i can make some plan on how to make it look as good as possible. if i actually make it look good, i would definitely post the pics. but i would consider painting it though... :dunno:

If you all ask me… If you want the base a permanent color other that the chromed aluminum look, I’d pay the extra $10 or $15 to have it anodized in the color you want. Aluminum is NOT friendly to paint and in order to paint it you need to wash primer it and the mixture is very strict and unforgiving. Even then there is NO assurance that it will not crack and peel over time. Just like colored Lug-nuts etc… they use Anodization for it reliability and ability to weather well. My .02.

anodizing would look pretty awesome, powder coating might be another option. A buddy of mine who's into old school bmx bikes has several aluminum frames that are powdercoated and they look fabulous :) Hold up pretty welll too ;)

:confused: Too much time and effort for a $25.00 mod. I'm going to leave it as is, probably looks fine matching the silver trim.

I'm gonna try the primer / black paint method. I'll post pics when its done.

I tried just the black paint but when I pull the painters tape from the rotor part it peeled up. Just gotta be more careful this time. :spank: :banghead:

I do not do anodizing.
You should be able to find a local shop that can do it for ya.

Thanks Vicegrip, I received it today. Looks good other than the standard machining marks that I will remove with fine grit sand paper. I looked into getting it annodized. I think I will take the primer and paint route since there is a minimum charge of $90.00 to get anything annodized in color. Now i can't wait to install it!!

how were these mailed - seems like I should have recieved mine already but it's not here.

i used Scotch Super 33+ electrical tape and wraped it then cut the back off at half the width of the flat sides. the tape is very flexable and sticks really well, time will tell how it holds up but if it fails then I can always re-apply or paint.

I also took a small piece of wax paper and mounted it inside to get rid of some of the bright reflections that were coming through.

the picture was at night i will take a better one tommorow, it really looks good and the shade is really close to the buttons.

I got mine today, but i tried and tried for hours and was unable to remove the stock knob. I just can't get it out. I tried every finger combination possible and the knob won't come out. I would never take a screw driver to any part of my 8, other than a screw, but would prying it out with a flathead work? I just can't get it out :(

I first used a white sticker that i colored black with a BIG sharpie and it worked fine but the color was a little off. so I had to pull it but i did not have much of a problem pulling it.

For the stock knob I used a pair of pliers with a folded paper-towel, no damage to the knob and no problem coming off.

I had trouble at first pulling mine off. After about 15mins. of trying it came off all of a sudden. I had a few tooling marks so I sanded the top with a combination of sanding paper grits ranging from 320 to 2000. The top now has the same finish as the rest of the aluminum looking pieces in the car. I also primered and painted the outside edges with semi flat black paint. It matches somewhat. I may go back and apply a clear coat to see if it matches a little better. But for now I am very pleased with the results.

You guys are weak, I haven't received mines yet, but I took my knob, in just 123 very EZ.

I took a while with my stock knob too, yanking too hard was just too nerve racking as I thought I might bust something so I tried the mini-wiggling method then a firm jerk when I felt it give.

looks good out of the bag, but I see where people might like a black base.
