View Full Version : First Sydney RX-8 Owners Meet
P.D.U 08-02-2003, 02:26 AM Okay ladies and gents with exceptionally good taste in cars,
How about we plan an owners rendezvous for the first week of September. By then we will have completed the run-in of our cars and they will be SO much more fun to drive.
I'm open to suggestions of where to meet and what time. Maybe we can get some suggestions and then I'll set up a poll ?
I'll put my suggestion in : Picnic lunch at Palm Beach, Northern Beaches
P.D.U
Lock & Load 08-02-2003, 03:46 AM One of my favourites spots on the goldcoast is palm beach .imagine drive of 10 rx8 on the goldcoast , less traffic better weather beaches and babes .
Titanium RX-8 08-02-2003, 08:01 AM P.D.U. Sounds like a plan. I am part of the MX-5 club and it is great fun having a few cars in convoy. Count me and the girls(wife and baby Anna) in for a Sydney meet.
P.D.U 08-06-2003, 07:59 AM So how about you other Sydney owners ?
aus rx8 , msydd ?
Do you fancy a trip up to beautiful Palmy ? It'd be Titanium RX-8 in his Titanium, aus rx8 in a Brilliant Black, msydd in a Winning Blue, and me in a Velocity Red. How cool would it be to see these cars in convoy !!
P.D.U
msydd 08-06-2003, 08:18 AM Anywhere... any time... count me in !
I'll be up in the Gosford area either next weekend or the weekend after, so I could be keen if you're doing it around then.
rossy 08-06-2003, 06:12 PM If the dealer ever gives me my car, I'm in.
P.D.U 08-06-2003, 06:30 PM Rossy,
Has yor dealer given you a delivery date yet ?
P.D.U
rossy 08-06-2003, 06:56 PM Yep July 28th, then Aug 1st, then Aug 4th.... now either today or tommorrow for pick-up sometime next week. Boy, these guys really know how to build up the suspense.
RX844 08-06-2003, 09:58 PM I'm based near Mittagong, however if I get my car by then (it is promised for the 3rd week in August, and it's held on a Sunday then I'll have my Titanium, wife and 9 & 12 yr olds there as well.
Winning 08-06-2003, 10:00 PM No, no RX-8 owners meet allowed til September. I am picking up my car third week of August. :D
Another option, have all the meet you guys want in August, but lock your cars in your garage at the end of August for at least two weeks. Less RX8 on the road. pleaseee!!:p :p :p :p :p
aus rx8 08-07-2003, 06:06 AM Count me and my wife in aswell. Be nice to see other RX8s on the road. Ive had the week off and just been driving around but I'm yet to see another on the road.
A Sunday would be good as my wife works Saturdays. ( Someone has to pay for my toy:D)
P.D.U 08-07-2003, 10:15 AM Okay,
This is looking very promising. So far we have the following owners (including soon-to-be owners) keen to meet :
P.D.U
Titanium RX-8
aus rx8
msydd
pepe
rossy
RX844
Winning
I think we should stick to a September date to give everyone a good chance of actually taking delivery of their vehicles and to get used to driving it. Definately a Sunday as this is usually the most convenient for most people.
Pepe, as you live in Canberra, it may be a bit difficult for you unless you're up here already or specifically want to make the trip.
P.D.U
msydd 08-07-2003, 04:51 PM I agree with the September plan... suggest we try to lock in a date.
The first 2 sundays in Sept are the 7 and 14. I've got a lunch thing on the 7th so would prefer the 14th... how's everyone else fixed ?
Titanium RX-8 08-07-2003, 05:51 PM 14th of September is ok with me. At least we all should have time to run in the engines by then.
Ray.
richwu 08-07-2003, 08:21 PM Hi guys... so would I be invited too?? picking my car up next tuesday.. Black with Leather.:D
P.D.U 08-08-2003, 07:10 AM Absolutely yes you are invited richwu. There are no restrictions here other than you need to own a Mazda RX-8.
So lets lock in the 14th September then. We need to agree where and what time. Ive already made my suggestion.
P.D.U
Hi All,
Should have another red one on the road for the end of August, so a mid September run up to Palm Beach would be nice for me.
The Northern Beaches won't make for much of an opportunity to use the right pedal, but it'll be a good backdrop for some pictures!
So, what do we do if it rains???
P.D.U 08-21-2003, 06:52 AM Another Red rotary. Nice choice Kev (although I am biased to that colour of course). And you're absolutely right about Palmy making a great location for some cool photos. If it rains, well then that's what umbrellas are for, and there's a large cafe right next to the car park where we can take shelter if we need to. But everyone send out some good vibes and with luck we'll have a perfect Spring day.
BTW - when I said previously that there are no restrictions other than you need to own a Mazda RX-8, that is of course rubbish. Anyone who has an interest in the RX-8 is very welcome. The more the merrier. It'll give us owners a chance to swap driving experiences and will be a great opportunity for potential owners to check out the different colours and to chat to the owners. If you just want to check out the vehicles, well that's just fine too.
I'll put together a 1 page doc and post it so that everyone knows where to meet and what time. Perhaps after everyone has had lunch and chatted we can take off in convoy and give the cars a bit of a run. Now wouldn't that look impressive !! I could even tip off the local press too and see if we can get ourselves in the paper.
Cheers,
P.D.U
pricer01 08-26-2003, 07:37 AM So close but so far ... I'm told that my Titanium Leather Pack Manual is on the sea (left last Thursday) and that 15 days on the ship, 4 days in customs, 3 days to get to the dealer/ do pre delivery and fit the mats and plates means that with no slip, I get delivery Friday 12/9 .. somehow I don't like my chances ... ...
And I know I could join in without my car but I dont think I could cope .. maybe this could be the perfect description of frustration .. keep your fingers crossed for me!! (coz mine are!!)
msydd 09-08-2003, 08:48 AM So what's the plan for Sunday (14th Sept) - are we still on?
Titanium RX-8 09-09-2003, 04:49 AM I'm keen too. PDU, are we still heading to Palm Beach?
Guys. I am a big fan of practicality. So in order to get myself an RX-8. I am selling my 2000 model Series-8 RX-7.
Would be keen to spot a Blue with cloth as thats what I am going for.
Will come along to this "do" at Palm beach. Will bring the Cosmo though as I have to keep the RX-7 Kilometres to a Min for sale (9560km)
Just need to know the time & place at Palm Beach thanks..........:)
aus rx8 09-09-2003, 06:41 AM I too am still keen. As it is a day ending in y, my plan was to be driving the 8.
Winning 09-09-2003, 10:06 AM count me in!!
msydd 09-10-2003, 07:00 AM OK. We've got Winning, ausRX8, DMRH, TitaniumRX8, and me as definite starters for Sunday (14th Sept). That's five gorgeous cars!
How about PDU, Kev, and richwu? Are you still keen?
Are we picnicing? Lunching in a restaurant/cafe? Meeting for a good show off session and a drive?
Anyone got suggestions for a landmark in Palm Beach to meet - remember it could be packed at Sunday lunchtime?
P.D.U 09-10-2003, 08:55 AM Friends,
Sorry for my absence recently. I've been rather bogged down with work.
Anyway, I am posting the document I promised with the details of what time to meet at Palm Beach and exactly where on the headland. There is plenty of parking space at the Northern end so we should be fine even if, as you mention mysysd, it is packed on the day.
I am looking forward to meeting you all and putting faces to all those forum names.
P.D.U
P.D.U 09-10-2003, 09:00 AM By the way,
The attached doc is actually a PDF file. This was the only way to get the file size below the 100k limit for posting. When you've downloaded it simply delete the .doc file extension to rename the file to 1stSydneyRX-8Meet.pdf
You will need Adobe Acrobat reader or similar to view the file.
Thanks,
P.D.U
I should be allowed out to play too.
I'll feel naked though - most of my accessories won't be fitted till Monday (juniors first service).
Kev.
msydd 09-10-2003, 04:53 PM PDU - Great Doc !!!
See ya all there...
aus rx8 09-11-2003, 03:11 AM Good work P.D.U.
Looking forward to meeting everyone, and seeing a collection of beautiful cars.
Titanium RX-8 09-13-2003, 02:50 AM Thanks for the post PDU. Looking forward to meeting you guys tomorrow. See you at noon.
msydd 09-14-2003, 12:18 AM Just got home!
Great day guys !!!
It was a blast to meet, and to check out the action as we drove on the road.... these cars look fantastic!
Titanium RX-8 09-14-2003, 02:58 AM I second that msydd. Very enjoyable. By the way msydd still trying to paint cheetah stripes on your winning blue using photoshop:D
Thanks PDU for organising the day and run.
Cheers, Ray.
P.S. Tried richwu's method of coding the new ignition key. Spot on. Works perfectly. The key must add atleast 15hp;)
Sorry All,
Missed the meet - work :(
Sounds like it went over well.
Kev.
richwu 09-14-2003, 03:11 AM Thanks PDU for organising it... now I can't wait till the next meet up.
on the way back I was just thinking windy road ----> Royal National Park Down south very very cool road and very windy!!! Just a thought for the next trip :D
Just for the one who missed the activation of their customer key.
require 2 sets of key which came with the delivery.
1. put in one set of key and turn the car on (don't start it)
2. wait until the immobilizer light on the desh turn off, then take it out.
3. repeat step 1 and 2 with a different set of key.
4. lastly put in that special key and turn it to ON position and wait till the immobilizer light turn off (take about 2 hours) and then the key is coded!!!
oh I mean 5 second =P
anyway have fun guys. Great to meet you all today!!
thanks again PDU to organise today event.
richwu
richwu 09-14-2003, 03:13 AM Just a little note, not sure any of yous saw the Titanium RX-8 went past on the opposite side of Mona Vale Rd??
I think he just missed out!

P.D.U 09-14-2003, 04:20 AM aus rx8, Titanium RX-8, richwu, msydd, DMRH,
Thanks to all of you for making today a great start to what I hope will be regular events that will grow in attendance.
As Titamium RX-8 has already validated richwu's method of encoding the rotary key, I think I will encode mine this evening. Love your work richwu !
DMRH, thanks for bringing those Japanese brochures along today and for sharing your extensive knowledge of all things rotary. I hope you get your RX-8 in time for the next meet.
Here's a selected few pics from today. If anybody would like high resolution versions (1280x960 dpi, approx 600kb each) I will be happy to send them if you drop me an email. I have a few featuring the people rather than the cars.
Until next time...
P.D.U
P.D.U 09-14-2003, 04:23 AM Four lovely RX-8s...
P.D.U 09-14-2003, 04:25 AM Six Pack (front) ...
P.D.U 09-14-2003, 04:27 AM Six Pack (rear) ...
Great pics :)
Who left the marks on the road? :p
P.D.U 09-14-2003, 04:51 AM sco,
It could have been the RX-7 that joined us.
No, they are there from the boy racers who like to drive at high speeds around the car parks at night.
Back to the RX-7 though, it's an SP2. A very rare beast indeed as I learned today.
P.D.U
Any pics of the other cars?
AWESOME!!!
I'm glad to see that velocity red was well represented without me :D
mikeb 09-14-2003, 04:56 AM thats awesome you guys got together great pics
aus rx8 09-14-2003, 05:23 AM Thanks P.D.U for organising a great afternoon. It was good to see you guys in person and a nice drive around Church Point. Could be expensive for me though, Vicky sure did like some of the houses we passed (not to mention the young enthusiast in the baby seat) . Looking forward to the next meet, and to ordering some gadgets from DMRH's brochures.
ordering some gadgets from DMRH's brochures
OK, my nose is itching - what gadgets??? Hmmm???
P.D.U 09-14-2003, 06:54 AM sco,
Here's a pic of the RX-7 SP2. A fantastic looking car, all factory standard except for a 110 Litre carbon fibre fuel tank (!)
I didn't get one of the DMRH's Cosmo. Did anyone else ?
P.D.U
Wildcard 09-14-2003, 06:59 AM Great pics of the cars lined up guys! I would have loved to come down from Newcastle for the day, but unfortunately I am up in Brisbane at the moment for work. Hopefully I can make it to the next day and add my sunlight silver to the line-up!

Cheers mate... another good shot. Love the wing on the back of that. White looks great... shame it's not a standard option for the RX-8 in Australia.
Winning 09-14-2003, 09:40 AM Sorry guys, missed the meet.:( :( Work!!
I cannot wait for the next one. Looks like you guys had a lot of fun today.
Great pics, love them!!
Have to say that i was impressed by the 1st Sydney RX-8 gathering at "windy" Palm beach.
Nice to meet those that came along & I got to see that fantastic blue version RX-8 in real life.
BIG thanks to PDU for the drive in his Rx-8 & I must say that I am more impressed than before. For an N/A rotary powered car, it goes hard.
Wife loved the chance to take my Cosmo for a run & impress her GF in the passenger seat. She raved all about it on the way home.
Good day guys.............Thanks
