Matt, did you ever produce the plug and play adapter to aid in the intstall of the video switcher?

Also, did you ever locate a DVD Changer with S-Video output?

Sorry I didn't see this thread until now. I'll try to answer for Matt.

The plug and play adaptor is still in progress as the connectors needed require a bulk order of 10,000 pieces (ouch). There is no ETA as of now. If you want to try the install it is very easy if you haven't seen my DIY I can answer questions for you if you wish (DIY link in my signature I'll post).

As for the DVD changer with S-Video ouput, we actually sell a 10 disc changer. It is less than $595 (I can't remember the exact pricing as we lowered the price since then). I'll check if it is S-video out compatible.

Unfortunately the 10 disc changer is only RCA composite video compliant, no svideo...we are trying to add more DVD players/changers to our product lineup but we want to make sure the units are reliable before introducing them.

Sounds good. I'll keep an eye on the site for these new changers. If you do come across something that is a changer with S-video out just know that I am ready to buy it.

I was about to buy one (the one with the DIVx player, and the USB port in front. If the quality is good, for less than 200 (low as 105) it's awesome i say. I'm still too chicken to dive into the AV system, but I think once summer hits, and I have free time, I may have to finally go for it. Thanks Magellen for always being helpful.

(when did you become apart of MAzdaParts?);)

actually I've been helping Thew out for a long time...he is a great guy but incredibly busy so the busier he got the more I've been helping out.

besides might as well put my rx8club addiction to some good use :)

we found one but the quality of the changer mechanism was questionable...we axed the idea before it ever went live :(

Anything new on 1) the plug and play adapter and 2) new DVD changers with S-Video added to you products offering?

I'm waiting patiently because I know that some things just take longer to achieve. Anything new on these two subjects that I mentioned above?

Tru or Thew, I know the install is easy. I've printed the DIY and have it sitting in the trunk of my car. I just don't want to give up on the plug and play adapter. Do you think its still a reality? Also, any success on finding a good DVD changer with s-video output?

ps: to show my patience, I've now owned the full av-switcher package now for over a year.

First, the DYI is excellent, the amount of information and diligence in the install is great to see. As ALXVA8 pointed out, and as we all know, PNP (plug and play) is very important to many RX8 owners.

I've seen this issue of needing to buy in bulk before, can you share the order of magitude for the cost? i.e. If 10000 units were needed, how many people do we need to commit to pay an elevated price (of what) to get an order in? (maybe you have done the back of the envelope on this and figured this unrealistic?)

If we have this understanding perhaps as a team (of RX8 enthusiasts) we can make this happen.

Thanks for your contribution on this, this is one of the best AV integration (features, implementation) I have ever seen!!!

Thanks! honda_nos

The cost far outweighed Mazdaparts.com's benefits considering sales of the video unit...I wish it could work regardless though. There is no doubt sales would go up of the video unit since this application would fit Rx8, Mazda3, and most Mazda6s (and a few other mazda vehicles as well but those are the big 3 for this application).

I haven't crossed out the idea of having a shop make it...in fact I just thought of a project for a friend of mine who moved back in town :)! Thew and I have been very busy lately making changes to the site and we haven't had time for new projects lately.

As for my friend I have an extra nav unit...I'll lend it to him to experiment.

Best Regards,

Jason
