Post NH RX-8 meet and coastal drive part deux on 3/5/06

Hey folks!

It has been almost two years since our last NH/ME coastal run and I think its about time we do it again. Picking up where Speed Racer left off, I'd like to get some folks together (weather permitting) on Sunday March 5 to meet at Hampton Beach at 10am and then head up the coast to Old Orchard Beach. It is a nice twisty road that follows the coast and it should be fairly deserted this time of year.

That should give us about an hour long drive up the coast and we can stop at some point to grab lunch. This will also give everyone a chance to hang out with fellow enthusiasts, check out some mods, and get some great photos.

Please reply to this post if your interested in coming to the meet.

Thanks!

P.S. If you own a FRS radio please bring it along as it makes it easier to keep in touch with everyone during the cruise.

I might be there if 2 things happen.

1) No snow on the ground.
2) I'm not heading to San Diego that weekend.

Highly doubt there will be no snow on the ground. The run will be cancelled if it is snowing, but not if there is already snow on the ground...

Count me in!
I'll probably still be on snow tires, but I might bite the bullet and swap out to summers temporarily just for this.

Still in hibernation

Sorry guys, but I wont be able to join you this early in the year. The "8" is still put away for the winter, and I hope to wait until all the snow is gone before I wake her up.

However, I would love to join up with you guys durning the summer for another part three.

Talking

Nipmuck:

Not a problem. I understand about putting away the car for the winter. I store my Miata for the winter and use his big brother to braize the winter. :D

I'm sure we'll have lots more get-togethers/tech days/etc this summer. Keep you eyes posted for upcoming events.

I best add here that unless it is clear, dry, and a bit warmer than now, I'll not be able to take my 8 out (that is in storage) either ... as I only have Falken track tires for it. Actually I'll have 2 pairs - including my new 275s by then. Even on cold roads they are pretty slippery, takes a while to warm them up enough to be remotely safe.

That being said, if you don't mind me showing up in my Turbo PT Cruiser , with Bling Bling wheels... I'll still be able to join in the fun... maybe even create some as my alter ego vs. those torque-starved NA rotaries you'll be in heehehheheh...

Feast your eyes on these fat asphalt pulling numbers guys:

Engine Size: 2.4 liters
Horsepower: 180 hp @5200 rpm
Torque: 210 ft-lbs. @2800 rpm

Did I mention it was an automatic??? Opps!

I'm still running OEM tires, so if there's snow on the roads, I'm out, but otherwise, this sounds good...

Hey Cool-Blue-Dad:

I'm thinking the run, with a lunch stop, should be done around 3pm or 4pm. Plan a business trip and join us!

The Map

my10ae asked me to put together a map showing the proposed Spring run. It's just hand drawn, but you get the idea. We're gonna hug the coastline on tiny little back roads, maximizing twists and turns (56 miles going the highway - longer on our planned route)

Now on to the important bits!

As for lunch, if we do start at 10AM, we'll likely be in Old Orchard by 11:30ish. Depending, we could either try finding a decent place to eat in OOB, or zip back via I95 and catch a bite in downtown Portsmouth (Portsmoth Brewery/ Redhook Brewery are favorite spots there).

If we try finding a place in OOB, we could get lucky or not, but most coastal eatery places are closed for the season - therefore we may be out of luck. I have doubts there is anything worthwhile open in March (read: empty winter Maine Touristy Ghost Towns).

Alternatively, after the drive, and zipping back on I95, the two very best seafood places in the winter or anytime for that matter around here are either in Hampton called "The Old Salt' (10 miles south from the Postsmouth traffic circle) or a place in Dover called 'The Fish Shanty' (10 miles north of the I95 Porstmouth traffic circle). They both have great regular food as well for those not seafood inclined.

Ah so! - some 'food' for thought! Opps, after all this writing, gotta go get some munchies now.....

Spin:

Thanks for the overview and mapping of the run coming up in March.

I guess we could try to find a place in OOB. If not we can take a majority vote and hit what ever restaurant in Portsmouth we want via 95S.

So who else is thinking of tagging along?

Rxgrl:

Being that we are starting in Hampton, NH, there should be plenty of of hotels you could stay at. Not sure exactly what's open during this time of year, but I'm sure we could find you something.
