I know they can do V8 swaps in RX-7's, So how long do you think till someone does a V8 swap in a RX-8?

Car is still new. Give it a few years. Don't write with black font!

Why the F would you want to do that? If you want a piston engine, get a car with a piston engine. rediculous..

the amount of money you spend on the swap you could have already purchased an older gm car with an LS1 and still have rotary power!

or you could pay rgonza and do a 20b conversion...

wonlt be till a few people pop their engines and have nothing better to do...

If it weren't for CA and our stupid emission, I would have saved up for a 20B and go all out N/A.

What states apply the 'stupid emissions' besides CA?

www.hinsonsupercars.com

they'll do it . . . they told me they'd cut a deal on labor/fab work but you'd still have to supply parts, though they'd credit you for the engine when they sell it.

An RX-# would not be an RX-# without a rotary engine.

If you could fit the LS7 you could have 505hp of Emissions Legal (in CA!) goooooodness in an RX8. I'm sorry but that would be freaking awsome IMO.

Don't get me wrong I really love my Rotary, but it would be pretty awsome to have an LS7 in an RX8.

LS7? Hell, I'd love an LS1 in my car. :)

Dominion,

Don't use an exclamation point when you should be using a question mark.

Don't write with black font! Why? Is there some rule that I missed? What is a plasma background?

Edit: Nevermind, figured it out. Yeah, Dominion, dont use black font.

I use to think when the rotary died I would try this, but honestly I've grown to love the rotary and it would be like a sin or something to stick a piston in a RX.

My dream one day...a 3-Rotor NA making 350HP...sweeeeeeeet

That would be sweet! Well thing is I found this RX-7 on ebay an this guy was doing a V8 swap in a RX-7 an was selling the car for like $17K with the new engine not installed.

or you could save your money and just slap some heads/cams on an LS1

I dont know why someone would put a piston in the rx8 but thats just me. If you do that, better take out the RX because it wont be a rotary xperiment anymore.

didnt you know? It stands for Rotary Sports (now). Or at least that's what mazda is claiming...

I understand the RX7 guys swapping to a V8, as they probably blew a motor already, probably a few. But this car has to age several years, and have to pop a few times before people would consider doing conversions like this. like people said if they could do LS2/LS7 swaps that would be nice !

I'm sure you could but . . . WHY? As mentioned abouve, 8 or 7, the rotary powerplant is the whole point of the RX. Going from a tiny 13B to a huge V-8 is going to mess up the handling anyway, which IMO is the whole point of the 8. If you want straightline speed, get a Mustang.

That's not the only reason unfortunately. There are plenty of people on rx7club that never owned any rx7, decided to buy a 2nd gen, and toss a v8 in it. Was their plan the whole time.

So the other reason rx7'ers do this is out of pure ignorance. They don't understand the rotary, they don't want to understand the rotary, they believe all of the misconception/bs horror stories of rotaries, so they bastardize the car.

Surprisingly, the LS1 is not much heavier than the 13B engine. It is aluminum, and about 60 lbs. heavier, and quite a bit less complex. Yeah 60 more lbs. in front would suck, but given the hp gain, and the reliability it does make sense from that point of view. But you are right, part of the reason you get an RX7/RX8 is because of the rotary engine.

Yah it's pretty much been proven time and time again that the weight difference between the 13B+setup and LS1+setup is almost negligible in keeping the 50/50 distribution. Plus it can easily be compensated for to regain the perfect balance.
