Does your company give you the week off between Dec 26 and Dec 30?

I'm a bad example. My company does not give us *any* holidays at all. Instead, we have an extra week or two of personal vacation days to use on those holidays if we want. There are no corporate shutdowns.

The reason is that we are a small design services company and our only revenue comes from billing hours to customers. No worky, no chargey, no payee. It's a different model from companies with products or other sales-based revenue where all employee costs are simply budgeted for and written off as overhead. Everyone has to accumulate 40 hours/week of billable hours. On the upside, if you can work 20 hours Saturday and 20 hours Sunday you're done for the week. ;) On the downside, if you work 8 hours/day Mon-Thu, then get sick on Friday you must burn a vacation day Better to be sick Monday so you can work 4 10s and conserve the vacation day. :)

No worries though; the pay is good and I have 21 paid days-off to use each year (20 base, plus 1 per year of service). It's unfortunate those days must be used to cover sick-time too, but I do understand the company's revenue model and it's not a problem for me. It might be a problem if I had or expected to develop chronic health problems, but without that no problem.

Yes. We close Dec. 23rd to the first working day of the new year. A couple years ago we could take 2 days of vacation and get 2 weeks off. :D:
