Viper, what is your schedule like this week. Do you think we could set up a time before or after work to hit up some photo spots. Today would be a great time to hit that fog section of Twin Peaks up. With all the moisture in the air, we may get a little wet heading up there, but if ewe take some towels, it could be some interesting shots.

I like the Idea of having a few pictures per person. kinda like the sigs we all have. one main pic, and then a few little ones around it. :)


I would like to get a good pic as my main one with the new wing before production. that was at leas it is up to date..... and it looks better!

for mine at least I would like a new pic for the main, for the small pics, one of the stereo, one of the new interior, one of under the hood, maybe one of the wheels/rotors......... you know what i mean. :rock:

I would like to put my 2cents in. Kwescott I liked the one of your car by the tree. With the month that you are in and the fact it really shows your car off.

I like snows with the sun set pic's because they are differnt from others and I think they go with your month. I like both sun sets so thats as much as I could help out with.

I think Vipers need to be Orange because thats Viper. ok thats my 2cents for now.

KC You mean something like this? I made this, I madethis one before I got my 8. For those of you with a few mods or a few good pictures this would be a great idea.

Zoo you are welcome to use that picture because I will not be but you should keep your eye open for any spots avaible in the area and I am sure that are a few. You will find that you start to driveing around with your camera in the car.

Speaking of photo-ops not too mention the refinery in Fontana but there is also the refinery south side of the 10 that has flames coming out :Eyecrazy:

I do like the looks of the B/W main with colored accent pics. I like the one you did of the three cars and the one you did of speeds. Let me find those and I'll post them. This will give us some discussion over what we want to do. I think this is classy...and even better because it will be our cars. I think the sigs I made are too busy...too much going on. Sometimes, more is not better.

This was done in about 5 minutes and is meant for discussion purposes. Same goes for the one I did with Speeds pics.

The first and second pics here are different...which do you think looks better? What about the third, with the jagged edges?

looking good i would keep in mind pictures with a lot of color, maybe should not be desaturated (B&W) and have the one that are less vibrate be the black and white ones. For example the fog is very gray already but the night tree had so much orange and the speedway had many colors. I would also try making the images a little small so that the ratios do not compete as much. We could also choose a universal font (mazdaspeed style or mazda rx-8 style) so we could name the owners car. but i am definitly liking it.

Loren, you know of any cool night locations within 10 minutes of us? Those refineries, where are they? Good for night shots?

I added a "reversed" combo...with the main picture Black and White, with the smalls in color. I don't know how to mask out my car though. I would love to do what you did with Speeds....make the background B/W, and leave my car in full color. I know it doesn't seem like it would make a difference since I have a black car, but it does. It is just so much more brilliant in color.

I think the refineries with the flames is off of Pepper and the other one is just down the street from the Mills. I don't know the area that well but I was talking to Erica about it, we also have the Mills parking structure/the Edwards theater drop-off zone, (late at night with out all the people) and there is also cement mountain with the flag lit up in the background in Colton.

Over by KC if you take the last right before S&W plastics there is a cool gravel birm you can park on top of that would look greally good. There is also the big rocks by the shell station more north west on the 15 similar to Jashua Tree, thats about all I can think of right now.

What do you think about the inverse of your picture, I like it much better, you might even consider swapping the fog for the dead tree, just playar aound with it till you get one you like. To do the color Black& white stuff you need photoshop or you would need to edit two seperate pictrues and then marry them back together.

Not feeling the jagged edges at first but after I saw the whole image against the background of the rocks it does look good. The questions is can everyone do something like that and if not do we want the months varied like that. I guess we have to settle on some type of overall master format of which we can vary some yet following the rules (format).

I agree with the idea of getting a general format, and then allowing for some variation. At this point, I like the photoshop ability to B/W and leaving the car, and accompanying shots in color.

As for fonts, I was looking at the back of my car...looks like we have three separate fonts for the "Mazda", "RX-8" and "Mazdaspeed". I do think we need to make the font a standard as well.

I like the reversed shot as well, only if I could get the car in the big pic to be in color, I think that would look good.

As for putting a name on the pics, I don't know if I see that as something we need? I don't know. The month will be on the bottom page, with the days of the week and such. Maybe just leaving it as a picture collage would be best.

As for a night shoot - what about a pic from that lake in Riverside overlooking the I.E.? (if you get off the 15 at Cajalco and take it up over the hill to the other side?) There is also the Kaiser parking structure in Fontana ( you could fina an empty area) Or somewhere over by the 10 and the 15 with the planes landing in the background?

here's some....The black and white is so hard because color is so much what makes these shots for Erica.

Loren, I like the top right pic better than the bottom left night pic you have.....I think it we went back to the "Victoria Gardens" spot on the ramp and angled your car more ( a 3/4 shot), I think that would be an awsome shot that may be "center" worthy.

It sucks cause I'm off for two weeks now for the holidays...I just wish everyone else was so we could set up some photo shoots. We have so many good photos, but there is always something that could be better with each of them. Too bad we aren't pros. :)

One of the pics I had for Cesar was from Krazie. I need the original it Cesar decides that he want to use that water crossing shot. The one I have is such bad quality it is blurry. I put a fourth pic in just to hold the place.

Note: Ugggh, Bitburger from Germany is even worse. Why does this stuff suck so bad? I had one last night I seriously put down the drain. Talk about bitter beer face. I'm gonna look for the bottle...one sec.

I do like the B/W backround, with the car still in color, but depending on the picture, I like full color. like if I were to use my snow picture, I would want that in full color/ (but I am not)

I also still like the Idea of having "mod" shots. maybe 4-5 small pictures of favorite mods on the car. In mycase i would like the stereo, Under hood, wheel/brake, interior, and maybe even a closeup of the new wing.

- I'm thinking collage type pages is gonna be the way to go. Just SO hard to pick only ONE picture.

1) Erica - I like the 2nd one on post #32. The first one is nice but putting those B/W pics takes away from the cool sunset in the back.

2)Loren - I like the 3rd picture on post #36. I actually really like the center pic that you used. Those rocks in the background look pretty cool (plus it's one of the few pics of the Malibu Run)

3) Cesar - I like the 2nd one on post #35.

Zoo....that is a cool shot, especially for yoiur month December. I'm just not too excited about the resolution. I know Krazie sets his camera up for low settings, so that he doesn't have to reduce the size for web posting. I set mine on the highest setting, but then have to do a lot of work reformatting them for the web.

Speed and Jedi, use your photoshop skills to put up ideas. The ones that Lesper and I posted last night were to help discussion....cause I still don't know what I really like either.

Speed, I agree that the night picture stands out...I'm still waiting for some submissions from others so that i can see what other pictures there are of me out there.

Cesar, here's two versions of that auto X shot. Which do you prefer, the original or cropped version?

KC, please post some pics of your interior, and one of your rim/tire (without the date stamp on) :)

Here's one with the Black and White main photo, with the car in color ("Lesper special")...and with four photo slots for mods or additional shots (in color)....along with the screename at the bottom.

Now since I didn't have a pic of Speed's interior/radio, or a recent pic of the wing...I've put two pics to hold the place for those. Also, I realize that the rim/wheel pic has a date stamp. I hate date stamps, and think they would look bad in the calendar. I've asked for a newer pic from Speed to replace this one as well.

My idea with the screen name is to use the same font, same size, and have two layers. The front layer would always be black (goes with the Black and white theme of the main pi), and then a second/back color in the car color. In this case, yellow.

I like the font, but of course, we could always change this as well.

Opinions....?

Keith if you give me the image I could probabley photoshop the dates out, as for his stereo I have this picture (what a drity floor). I think it is looking good though, question is, is it unamious (SP) for the color format...if we can get a format down this can go a lot faster. say somethign like:
-black n white w/ color image with color thumbnails accross the top or bottom or down the side (pick on eside only for images), pic a common thumbnail size say 1.5x2.5 (?, or what ever the ratio is) same with the text, font and size...color can change with the car. It would be cool if we can get each MAIN image to be different, i.e. not all snow or dead tree or facotry or parking strutrue etc.

I vote for Black and White center pic (with car in color), and four pics across the top in color. I also like the idea of screen names now that I see what it looks like.

I went up to hwy 138 today after work.
I took tons of photos, using different camera filters, and slightly different angles.

I think pic #53 is my favorite. The others are portrait format and will leave a whole bunch of white space on your month. Pages are landscape format (8.5 x 11). The only way to improve on the shot you have in #53 (in my opinion), was to go more from the side, or to have your wheels turned. I want to be able to seperate your car from Speeddemon's. Your wheels are a big styling element that makes your car yours, and you can't really pic them up in #53.

On a side note, that looks like an awsome location. Both Erica and I reacted the same way when we saw 53 for the first time...."wow".

that would be dificult with it getting dark when I get off work. but I will try. maybe on monday (I have the day off)

Buy the way i think if we do a border around the thumbnail we should use black (small) the color might be a little to contrasting.

Xrider...haven't heard anything from you on this subject...maybe these will spur you on.

I know you have pictures of mods, like stereo and interio...is this something you wouuld like to have, and if so, which pictures would you like to replace....pic numbers are 1, 2, 3, and 4...from left to right.

Response-No extra charge, the only extra fees are for specific indications in the calendar section, like if you wanted June 22nd to read "Keith's Birthday". Youu get five of these for 5 bucks. Basically a dollar a piece, but come in 5 group bunches. (now why you would want to do this when you can simply write this is yourself is beyond me, but anyways).

I would assume it for each one they print, but I can check. But, if it turns out that it is for each individual calendar, I guess you could customize yours a little more.

Also after looking at the pictures I think they might turn out better if they were daytime, sunrise or senset but not night pictures everything kind of gets lots and the thumbs do not pop off the page that much.

Nope, not 100% convinced on the background...but this was the one I had up, so it was easiest to modify. I also like your idea of trying to have different shots...I liked my tree shot one better, but don't want to have the same shot as Jedi..haven't received any of his photos yet...he said he had some for most of us on his camera. Still waiting for that post.

what time do you want to plan the evening at the refinery for tomorrow. Reason I ask is that I'm trying to set something up with Vipers as well...haven't heard from him yet for the time he is available. I also want to meet up with Cesar tomorrow morning for sunrise pics up at crestline.

I like the idea of using the B&W for the center (with color car) and the 4 smaller pics.

Question for everyone though: If we have EVERY month with the 4 small pics @ the top, won't that make the calendar a bit monotenous? How about moving those pics around? Maybe they would look better on the bottom for some months, or all on one side, etc.
I think there needs to be a common pattern (all pics on ONE side; top, bottom, left, or right) but maybe a little variety?

Keith, I think you and I might benefit from putting the pics on the bottom...won't block my tree OR your sunset you're trying to capture, etc.

I like the borders. I think someone (Snow???) suggested using the color of the car as the border. When you have a chance, try mine or speeds w/ the thumbnails bordered in yellow.

I agree w/ Jedi. It'd be nice to have a variety on location of the thumbnail shots.

If someone is really excited about their interior, maybe they can take a inside shot as their main pic.

sorry guys i haven't been in this convo at all. been really busy these past few days and what not. lotsa reading i did just now too for this one thread. I also am one for the idea of the thumbnails being pix of our mods, and the center pic being a pic of just the car. I was thinking that for the cover pic on the calendar we can get all of us together and have a group pic as has been stated previously (don't remember if it was this thread or the san berdoo thread). I also think that a nice action shot (like a burnout or just driving along the freeway) would add more to a pic (like pic #3 on post #19).

jedi: i really liked that one pic you have of my interior! bitchen pic :).

keith: one of my fav pix of my car so far is the 2nd one on post #8. I like how it just captures just the right front fender along with the rim in the fore ground, and then the whole valley in the backgroung. i like how you did my SN font and font color in the lower left hand corner of the first pic in post #75. you also have all the pix of my car i have taken w/my digital camera when i emailed them to you a while back. all the other pix i have of my car have been posted here on the forums. Also, on thursday, so far i do not have anything planned (although impromptu events are frequent), i would like to hit up that sunset spot so i can have more pix of my car (or you can let me know where it's at so i can go take pix myself).

KC and Ceasar: i really like your B&W with car still in color pix that were taken. the B&W makes the yellow of your guys' cars stand out phenomenaly. I think the same would go for zoo tender and lesper4 as red would get the same/similar effect.

I still have to go through my pix and see what i have from everybody that i will post as my suggestions. Though, i'm not the PS super skilled dude here, i think i'll leave that to keith, Casey, and Loren for their imaginations and/or our suggestions to come up w/stuff

Well no car today but it should be tomorrow. I did some scouting instead, the pictures would look better at night becasue of the lighting except for the train yard. The fuel refinery with the open flame is no more but i am yet to see what we can take at the facotry in fontana near the new Arco. You can also get a close shot down nearr teh track of pepper but you have to drive on a dirt road. :nono: ?

Keith and I met up with Jesse today for a photo shoot in the Orange fields. Viper, Keith wants to know which of these pics you like, which one's you would like as your center pic. We'll need to shoot it over to Loren so he can make them black and white.

I'm really happy with how some of the action shots turned out. I think they may be worthy of posting as thumbnails....what do you think?

We had more than 80 pics to sort through from the photoshoot...we tried to post at least one from each group of shots (based on angles and lighting).

Here's some of the best. I'm rather disapointed by the quality of a lot fo them...little parts always seem blurry. I think this is what happens when you don't have appropriate lighting, or backlighting. There may be a keeper in the bunch..especially the engine shots. I could also try cropping one of the shots if you really like one of them. Just let me know.

My opinion...now I'm giving back some of those .02 cents I've been accumulating...I think it is too dark, and not in focus. I'm starting to realize how hard night, sunset/sunrise shots are. Not only do you need a steady hand, but you need some supplementary lighting.

pictures are looking good, i think since some of us want night shots as the main pic then the thumbs should be day shots and vice versa. It makes them stand out more.

I agree...but I think it should ultimately be up to the owner to make the ultimate decision.

So here's what I gather.

(1) We are good with the B/W main pic (with colored car).
(2) We like the idea of outlining the thumbnail pics. (but since I haven't yet done one in body color yet as Cesar suggested, we still need to wait for the vote on that one).
(3) Most are in agreement that mods or pics are good for thumbnails. (up to owner to indicate pics they like, the order, or to provide their own pics).
(4) Everyone wants their screenname...and I haven't heard anything negative about my two color idea.

My job, to post a couple more versions for a few to review.

Although, I do think it'd be awesome to have a picture of my clean horse and cean car together.

A picture at your equestrian center wouldn't be bad. I'm sure there are other horse people in the bunch. Hay looks really cool in black and white. Take some pictures while your down there. We can help you figure out how to get them loaded so we can see them...or we can give you an email or two to send them to. The calendar is about us and our cars, not just our cars. And if your car is always carrying hay, then maybe it should be photo'd that way. :)

I also outline the pics in body color, though it is hard to tell with dark grey...I'll do one of Cesar's and post it here when I'm done adding the yellow squares.

I like the yellow on the thumbs keith but you need to improve on your photoshop skills so that everything is equil and lined up. do you need photoshop i can guide you through simple steps on aim.

Ok, can't decide which format I like best. I changed two of the pics...pics 2 and 3 to current ones that include the interior. Outline in black. Which do you guys prefer...across the top or along the side?

I vote for the thumbnails on the side.

There's just something about those telephone poles all lined up that gives the picture an interesting look.

Also, I like how you put the picture of your interior on the bottom. Seems to leave more of a lasting impression since most people will look at those thumbnails either from Left to Right or Top to Bottom. With that one at the end, you leave them with something they've probably never seen before.

two, as for the small pics, I think it should depend on the main picture used, meaning if one persons main pic looks better with small pics on the side, then put them on the side, If another persons looks beter on the top, then do the top, same goes for the bottom.

Thumbnails -
I'll post a pic of the thumbs I like.
I'm not concerned w/ the order of the thumbnails. What ever you think is fine.
Cesarsunset3 for a thumbnail. If you could just crop a little off the top, cause you can see my sleeve.
I like the borders in yellow. Maybe slightly thinner because this will be on full-size page.
Also, the borders makes the difference in thumbnails size/alignment obvious.
If it's too much work to make the thumb size/alignment uniform, I think it's better not to have the border. (You could always put the thumbs in a filmstrip with no borders.)
Definitely don't want the pic of me at AutoX. The one w/ the tape on the front.
If the water pic is too blurry, change it too.

Main pic -
1st choice main pic - "Cesarsunset2" or "Cesarsunset10" (leaning more towards 2). Probably in full color, but I'd like to see it w/ the B&W background, I just don't know how to do that.
The pic is too dark, but I was able to fix it.
If we use this choice, maybe put the thumbs on bottom in a filmstrip to cover the stains in the dirt. Or just photoshop the stains out if you can.

2nd choice main pic - the pic titled "August final Lesper style 1cropped" w/ the B&W background. (post #69 pic #1)

Dates in the calendar -
If it turns out the cost of adding the dates is a one-time fee and it goes on ALL the calendars, I'll pay for up to 20 dates.
I'd like my B-day 8-20-73 on it.
You guys can add any other dates you need.

Fixing the dark pictures -
I don't have the original, but I put together a little tutorial on photoshop for adjusting the pic.
If you already know this, then forget what I wrote, but if not, you may want to try it.
I really want one w/ the magnet/helmet, but if it doesn't look that good in full-size, maybe use them as a thumb.

BTW, my pics looked terrible. No tripod. And my camera is not as good as yours.

I like the one with your doors open. To be honest, Pic #3 in your current calendar page is so much like the main picture that i think it could be replaced. I think the third pic you just posted is very similar as well. So, I guess it just depdns on which background you like the best, because the pics themselves are very similar.

Interior shot added, definately a great shot to include. However, I like the shot you don't, so I've posted two options here. One with the shot removed like you asked, and another with the other (similar) pic removed. Final decision is up to you, but just wanted you to see. I think the shot with the signage in the background is cool, plus, it was the very first pic snapped of your new paint shop as you drove it back to Pirate City that morning...so it should have sentimental value. :)

Is this closer to a final version? I would like to see a new pic of the intake with the engine cover and no date stamp. Maybe less blurry :). I realize that we will be changing the third pic as well, but we should have that pic by tomorrow. With those two changes in mind, is this a final version that you would be happy with, or are you still wanting to change your center pic to something more current?

This leaves us with just one month left....Scotty305, Toca? Haven't heard a confirmation for that final slot.

I'm not as rich as you :) so I went with 18's all the way around. WAY cheaper. I could not get over the price differance between 18's and 19's. same with the tires. :icon_no2:

also with my car being lowered I dont think 19's would have fit. the 18's with the offset I got I think would have hit. even these are a little to close for comfort. I would not be suprised if they rub while the suspention is working. :Eyecrazy:

That parking structure may be a cool day spot...don't know how many cars may be there though. There were some palms off to the right that flanked the building. Depending on time of day, early morning, late day, you would get some cool shadows from the poles.

Here's some cool ones, love how the rim shots came out.

when you select the one you want for your main shot, keep in mind that you'll need spacing for your thumbs....so choose accordingly.

Zoo, if you move your mouse pointer over a thumbnail, and leave it there, you'll see the file name...they should all be "zoo" with a number...like "zoo2", "zoo20"....let me know which ones you like.

man, that was a long night. What time did we start anyways. I know we finished like right up the street from my house and I got home around 12:15 or so. I spent about an hour when I got home looking at some of the pics for the first time, just going through deleting all the blurry ones. There were over 300 pics to sort through...but there was some good one. Now I know why professionals end up taking so many shots.

Now, I get to go rest my back...aghhhh.

Are you going to want another rim pic...one without goo? That intake pic is much better. Do you want an intake pic with the engine cover...and I thought you had more going on under there...didn't you have more yellow wires (grounding kit?)...or was that just wiring for the amps? Do you want a newer pic or are you ahppy with this engine pic?

I would replace either pic 1 or pic 4 with the direct side shot you have in post #163. The first pic "DSC00916".

I think this would be perfect. It adds a different angle, and I don't think anyone has a direct side shot. It would go well with the doors open shot too....My 2 pennies.

Ok this is what I would do.
Delete Pic 1
Move Pic 4 over to pic 1 spot.
Insert DSC00916 in Pic 4 spot...and call it a day. :)

I think these would make interesting main pics. Loren, when you have a chance, lets see these in B/W.

Between pic 1 and 2, 2 is more in focus. 2 might look cool with thumbs down the right side (but would cover the tree)...or across the bottom (but I dont think they would fit without covering part of your front tire).

I think pic 4 is not a keeper in this bunch as the wheels are turned the wrong way...would you agree zoo?

I agree with the wild west shoot #2 is the best......so far I like #192-3, 193-4, and 204-2. Can't decide which I like better of the cabin ones and I don't like the reflection on the hood......could that be photoshopped out? made red instead of white? hmmm don't know the order and still leaves me one picture short.
