March 4th: Clearwater Mazda & Ybor party [Archive]

Mazda in Clearwater has contacted Guy321 and myself to host the March meet at their location. They will provide food and plenty of items for raffle to coax the group to their location. It is being hosted by their parts guy and he is working on getting competative pricing on the Mazdaspeed parts that are coming out as well as what we already can buy. I think he would match any price out there on stuff and they would provide free shipping to their shop, which isn't bad if you are looking for a kit, or MS wheels that are heavy. That dealer has Castrol, Bridgestone and their local paint shop (painted my gas lid) coming to the event which will also be pretty cool. I am always down for free stuff and food. Does this interest you guys? He is sending out flyers to their RX-8s but wanted to invite us personally since we are the enthusiasts.....which really translates to....we are the buyers of mods.....the date is March 4th.

I was thinking we could do this event like the rotary meet we went to in Orlando in October. We could find a large hotel room for the Orlando folk and those who want to drive over, but not rush back. We could all go down to Ybor city and enjoy the evening and drive back the next morning to avoid the traffic. When we did this last time, we each spent about $20 for the hotel room and went to pleasure island. Can you guys give me some feedback? Thanks!!

The Ybor thing is way cool. According to www.centroybor.com, March 4th is BEER FEST!!!! I'm in and I'm sure Swoope is, too.

This sounds like it would be a good meet as long as there will be enough space there to take in 50+ cars. I can start a thread on rx7club (if there isn't one already) to make this meet as successful as the Race Rock meet. I should have my new FD done by then so I can attend this meet.

THe meets will spin off when it get's closer to the date. I'll prolly work with one of the ORL folks to coordinate ORL's caravan. It would be nice if we meet up with other caravans on the way up there. :rock:

the first post on this thread someone was saying to get group hotel rooms for the cars that have long drives. I fall into that category as I'm sure others do, also some beer fest in ybor. If this has been adressed I would like the info, thanx or if it is left up to individual/caravans etc.?

Attention all club members...please be advised of the following times for the event on March 4th.

Check in will be held from 10-11am, so be sure to be there early so that we can get all the cars situated in a neat and timely fashion.

Attached to your check-in packet will be your car number, your schedule of the day, and a special club accessories pricing sheet.

Don't forget to fill out your raffle cards that will be given to you at the time of check-in to ensure your chance to win some great prizes.

From 11-12 will be meet and greet time with your fellow rotary lovers.

From 12-1 there will be complimentary hot dogs, hamburgers, and beverages, as well as free clinics and raffles throughout the day.

From 1-2 we will be giving out some great prizes to raffle winners.

We decided to change the evening festivities to the Hardrock since there are so many out of town people coming. Unless you are a local and have been around for a while, Ybor City could potentially not be a safe place to park your car. Hardrock is such a large venue that we would have to drop some major money to get a room to ourselves or a VIP section in the club. I just can’t afford that for this event, but maybe we can make this a larger event next year and plan a bit more. We should have a blast none the less. I checked it out the other night and the place is spectacular…..

Most of us will either check into hotel rooms after the meet or go home and relax before heading out to HardRock in the evening. We can plan on meeting in the front lobby around 9ish and go from there.

What time is the after party?

I have to drop out of the meet.. I have a drywall contractor coming to the house Sat at 9am. :(

Most of the nicer chain hotels in Ybor have gated parking. The Hilton comes to mind specifically.

I think I can go to this tomorrow but only the meet! FYI, weather looks perfect- Saturday: Mostly sunny, with a high around 73.

Anyone need a stock Potenza tire with 2500 miles on it? I will give it up for $60, I keep it as an extra. I will lug it with me tomorrow. See y'all then

Thanks FDRey, I was about to say the same thing....Mazda said it was one of the largest reported events at a dealership in Florida.....

I can get you a hat made anytime....we have a thread for hat orders on the flrx8club.net site under suggestions. i can get any color and any thread color.....

I am the prez of the SOFLA RX CLUB .. Val a.k.a "PREACHER"
I heard you had a good turnout... but I also heard that ya'll didnt know how to properly drive in a caravan... that is that you all didnt stay together... that is the object of the caravan.. it looks best when you have all the rotaries driving a convoy type of Caravan.

Weren't there supposed to be 140 cars registered... what percentage of the 140 actually showed up ?
In an Ideal situation I agree a caravan would look like a parade. In the real world it is often abit more difficult without blocking traffic, speeding or just stopping in the middle of the road to regroup. It would be great if the drivers not involved (traffic) would be more curtious but as of late in Florida people dont even pull over for emergency vehicles! Not sure of the #'s but it was a very nice show, good representation of rotary powered vehicles, food was good/free and there was only one guy that thought everyone present should listen to his music and stop having normal conversations. Did anyone notice that even the officers that showed up we having a good time, very cool. Many thanks to the FLRX-8 club for the hard work getting it all together and I look foward to the next event. I'm not going to lose any sleep over whether or not anyone feels the attendees knew how to "properly drive in a caravan." Criticizing another groups event isn't very christian-like. MAYBE THAT'S WHY HE WASN'T EMAILED AND ASKED FOR HIS OPINION.

I understand what he is trying to say but disagree that we didn't know how to, simply put some people like driving faster than others and there was no compromise on the matter.

I think the purpose is to stick together as much as possible, but It didn't bother me to drive alone up there. Me and Rhwab had our own 2 car caravan (lol) going so that was fine.

Next time I wont be doing the caravan thing because I don't drive as fast as some of the members but I'm not mad about it or anything.

Getting there safe is what matters and having a good time once we are there.

The food was very tasty. The people were friendly. The prizes were great (dang girl that took the book I wanted...lol). The weather worked with us and there were alot of 8 turnout so it was pretty good.

Heck...they even fixed a scratch (or what ever it was) I had on my 8 so it was a win win for me.

It could have been better (what can't be) but it was pretty fun and I'm glad I went.

CenFlaRxClub will be having our meet on Sunday 3/19/06 at Orlo Vista Park. it will kick off at 1:00pm there will be a raffle and food
the raffles are a $1.00 a ticket, of buy 2 to better your chances!!! i would like to caravan to the park so we will all get there together. i need ideas of where to meet to start the caravan. so please give up your ideas. i also need to start a list of stuff that people will bring for the cookout . we need condiments, sodas, hot dogs and buns, burgers and buns, charcoal, so let's get tight central florida and start the spring right.
